Files magically dissappear
I've been using InSync for many years and after investigation highly suspect that there is some type of issue with the software that causes files and folders to magically disappear. I may be wrong- I'm saying that it is a suspicion not a proven fact- and without going into detail I want to say I am fairly confident that it is an issue with InSync and that is why I am writing this review.
After uninstalling InSync I learned that I can achieve with Google Backup and Sync exactly what I achieved with InSync: the ability to have multiple Google accounts on one computer.
Insync deleted all of my data.
Been using Insync to sync Google Drive with Ubuntu 20.04 for a year.
It’s deleted my entire harddrive TWICE and has been a giant headache for over a year. Program is full of bugs and needs to be re-installed and re-configured constantly. (literally about once a week with regular usage)
DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM TO BACKUP SENSITIVE DATA. (I lost 30 years of data)
I wish there was an alternative for google drive usage. Since there isn’t, I just stopped using Google Drive. I still use Insync when my friends share google drive files with me, but this directory is unstable and I learned to keep it isolated from the rest of my system.
Do not recommend. I do not trust this company.
All the time stops working with error
All the time stops working with error, only helps manual moving file out of insync folder and back. No any real support, just stupid questions. Would like to get money back.
Poor quality software
Seems to me that the software was better at some point. However, now it frequently appears to be stuck and starts using lots of memory and lots of CPU.
Terrible product
Terrible product, uses 90% CPU every time you reboot for multiple hours, fails to sync 10% of the time and randomly you find it using 100% of your CPU even though you haven't changed anything in the sync folder.
Stay away
I ordered bikes in May, when I phoned to cancel I was told that my bikes were despatched so I cannot cancel. 2 months later I am yet to receive the bike or the refund.
On Monday after 10 days of chasing them I was told that the refund was processed only to get an email today (3 days later) that this has actually been processed.
Overall, I was lied to on all communication with the team there. Be aware.
I was a long-time user of Insync 2.x…
I was a long-time user of Insync 2.x and it was OK. After upgrading to Insync 3, it seriously messed up Google Drive on many projects where we collaborate with colleagues (G Suite) - including duplicate files, deleted files, files reverted to prior versions, etc, other people files that I have never even touched or seen. It took a while to untangle using logs from Google Drive admin panel, etc;
I'm done - never again. Official clients only.
Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Canceled the contract very soon after signing.
It is not the program, it's the people.
this is the best sync software for…
this is the best sync software for google drive. it works perfectly . I love it - i would strongly recommend it .it works without admin privileges so you can use your school/work computer and home computer . its brilliant.
Deleted everything in my cloud
Deleted everything in my cloud. Worked great on my linux machine. Then I installed it on my windows laptop which was apparently a massive mistake. I changed the default sync directory and for some reason it didn't take. So I tried to change it. It wouldn't take the change so I uninstalled deleted the directory and reinstalled. As soon as the reinstall was done it proceeded to sync a blank directory to my cloud store and wiped everything out. Crap software that really needs to be reworked. Wouldn't trust in a professional environment. Stick with Google client.
Looks shiny...but it's very amateur
I'm a software developer who was looking for a background service to keep my data backed up and was fooled by the (fake) reviews for Insync.
It's supposed to maintain state between the local and the remote but it doesn't unless you open it up and start hitting buttons - not what I had in mind!
Most of the effort has gone onto the user interface which suggests its always syncing but if you monitor your network traffic you'll see it's not. It will appear in your taskbar and use 100% of CPU making you believe it's 'syncing'...but it's not.
Use rclone. It's harder to setup for novices but worth it as it *actually synchronises* your files.
Was amazing, at least that's what I thought
I'm saying this straight out as it is.
I'm a software developer, and was looking for something to automatically synchronize my files without uploading a huge load of unnecessary files (e.g. node_modules with thousands of files).
At first, I thought this app was amazing because it really was. It was a huge step forward compared to Google File Stream that offers no flexibility at all. Now I could finally just work on what I wanted when I wanted to do it, from anywhere as long as I had Insync installed.
I also checked the reviews before buying it, and people said: "This is the first thing that just works". And it was amazing for the time it lasted.
A month ago-ish, I was going to continue working on a project I had been working on for a huge amount of time. To my surprise, no files were there. The only thing remaining was the folder of the project name. Can you imagine my frustration now?
I had been working on that project for 2 months straight and was ready to launch in under a week.
Boom, all my files were gone. Luckily Google Drive still *has them saved*, but they are spread everywhere, and if you are to restore the files, you have to do so chronologically. And by that I mean you have to restore every single folder, file, and whatnot, from the root-folder. I spent hours on this, and I lost some of my updates in the process (because, apparently, Insync had created 5 different copies, making it impossible to know which one of them was the latest).
Once I had restored my files, I thought this was my fault for using it with Boxcryptor (an encryption software that you can use with Insync). So, I decrypted all my files and stopped using it. After a week I thought finally insync was working as it should.
Now, as I'm writing this, Insync freaking managed to do it again. Where the hell are my files? Yeah, they've copied them 3 times and put them everywhere, and it's so inhumanly difficult to restore them, that I'm about to quit this project and rewrite it, WITHOUT Insync.
I'll get rid of this damn application, and will never ever use it again. Once I'm done with this project I will create my own application to sync files, but I'll make one that's working, and release it to the public for FREE.
I've made many stupid purchases in the past, but they haven't cost me my time and annoyed me this much, so I can justifiedly say that this is the worst purchase I have ever made in my entire life.
Best software I've ever purchased
Best software I've ever purchased. I paid for it, installed it, and it just works - imagine that? That's a rare scenario these days, sadly.
