I contracted the services of John Hirst, of Laker Legal Solicitors in September 2024 and our contract terminated in September 2026.

Throughout the two years that John represented me I found him to be professional, polite and attentive to my case. He always responded promptly to queries I had and was quick to update me on proceedings regarding my case.

I always felt that John was working in my best interests. On more than one occasion he advised me against pursuing a course of action I was considering because it would end up costing me too much. Thanks to John’s honesty and integrity my case, which could have dragged on, was wrapped up in a timely fashion and I have been able to move on with my life.

I have just bought a house with the support of Laker Legal Solicitors' conveyancing team. Jess Blacow & Rebecca Lord dealt with my case and I have nothing but words of appraisal for all their hard work especially as the case was slightly more complicated than usual. They conducted all thorough checks from start to finish, and always ensured any queries of mine were dealt with. There were moments when the case got tricky due to the sellers being obstructive which was made worse by estate agents constantly putting unnecessary pressure on me to speed up the process without clarifying my doubts. However, both Jess & Rebecca dealt with that effectively and assertively and ensured that progress was made at the right speed once all parties were satisfied. I would like to specially acknowledge the extreme hard work of Rebecca, as she communicated regularly and kept me informed regarding any issues or changes in the process. We used Laker Legal for conveyancing as first time buyers. When I called to obtain a quote and ask some questions, I was reassured that we would have a dedicated point of contact that we could talk to if we needed too. The reality was much different, in the 6 months they were instructed, I spoke to our appointed conveyancer, Jessica once after I insisted several times I wanted to speak with her. Initially I was passed off to someone with no knowledge of the matter and then when she did call she couldn't wait to get me off the phone.

We really wanted someone that would guide us through the process, but this isn't what we got. Vague updates via email were provided and we felt in the dark throughout.

As others, we were hoodwinked by the fact they had a Bath address (where we were buying) - this is a virtual address and they only operate out of Lancaster and nowhere else.

Communication was abrasive and rude when we chased - essentially being told 'do you want us to do the work, or update you.' I would suggest part of doing the work is keeping your clients updated.

Our purchase fell through which was not the fault of Laker Legal, but when we find a new property, we have learned a valuable lesson. For the same money we paid, we can get a much better, prompt and personal service elsewhere.

Not willing to do minor matters or stamp a sworn document . Clearly just money orientated. Should not claim to deal with all matters should say min £300 before we can give a damm. 3 months later they reply falsely claiming they explained. Kind of tells you how slow and slopy they are.

Thanks to Jess and Rebecca who dealt brilliantly with conveyancing for a property we purchased. It was not straightforward as it was a repossession in a rural area for which there was little of the needed information. Adding to that we needed to complete in 21 days which we were told was impossible by other solicitors. For a very reasonable extra fee they managed to make this happen and were in fact ready to complete a few days early! AVOID!

I used Laker Legal for conveyancing last year. I did this as I wanted a local firm to the properties in Kent. Their so-called Maidstone office is not where the work is done from, very misleading!

I was assigned to Jessica Blacow. Throughout the process she was unhelpful and downright rude! A sale and purchase which should have taken only a few months took over 8! This was a 3-person chain so not exactly complex. In the end, we nearly lost my mortgage offer due to her delays. Had I not chased regularly, I would have lost out.

Jessica Blacow was incredible throughout the process of buying an auction property. Jessica definitely went above and beyond to ensure the process was stress free as possible and smooth sailing.I would highly recommend Jessica , she was very informative and kept me up to date with any updates with the process and responded promptly with any enquiry’s I had.Jessica is friendly and very good at her job!!!Rebecca was also very helpful along this process and had good communication throughout.

Although we initially chose Laker Legal because we thought it was a local company we do not regret the decision for them to do the conveyancing for our recent house move despite them actually being 300 miles away in Lancaster.
