If I could have zero stars I would
If I could have zero stars I would. If we had known how terrible the airport was we would’ve never chose to fly here. Arriving to Munich didn’t seem that terribly and perhaps it was bc we got off the plane first and was able to quickly go through passport control. However, returning was a different experience. Our flight was at 1:00 pm and we got there at 9:30. We didn’t make it to our gate until 12:30! Please pay attention. This is our experience for terminal 2. If you have goods to declare for checked bag and carry-on there are two separate custom (Zoll in German) control you have to go to. Step 1, we went to the airline helpdesk, they had to tag the checked bag first. Step 2, go to the checked bag custom office for the goods to declare and receive stamp for global blue refund. Our experience was that there were only 2 people working for the entire airport for the checked bags! This is an international airport! The custom experience was just horrible. Once your global blue paperwork is stamped, the custom will take your bag and send it to the flight. Again, no idea if it’ll make it. Step 3, To the global blue office, again one person working for the entire airport! The line was so long and we weren’t sure how long the line would be for my carry-on. We were so frustrated we decided to mail ours in after receiving the stamp. No idea if we would get a refund. And thank god we did that now thinking back. Step 4, we were told to go upstairs for security check#1 (their version of TSA). This line was also very long took at least 15 minutes . Step 5, once we made it pass their TSA check, we had to get to our gate and ours in particular was gate L and there was a line to go thought that. This is a security check #2. Took about 20 minutes. At check in, Luthfansa staff told us we need to do custom first before to get into that line but No! The boarder staff was like where are you going and we told him our final city and he was like you need to get into this line. Which was different than what the Helpdesk of Luthfansa told us. Since this was so confusing, we asked him just to be sure and he got irritated and told us get in the line. But what? Can you explain sir?! Get in the line. We had no choice and got in the line again. Here, you scan your passport via self help kiosk. Step 6, after scanning your passpwot and finger print, you get in the line again securely check #3 for the boarder patrol officer to stamp your passport. This took another 10-15 minutes Step 7, now find custom office (H28) again for carry-ons. Again, two people working for entire terminal 2. And we witness the custom officer failed to return the passport to the people in front of us and we had to call them back! This took about 20 mins minutes. Step 8, now to Global Blue desk (H30) and again one person for the entire terminal 2. And the people in-front and behind us didn’t know they had to get their goods inspected and stamped. This took about another 20 minutes. And you think now you are done. Step 9, getting food before you get to your terminal! This took 20 minutes or more. Not many options here and long line at each food stall. Staff taking their time on personal phone while taking orders and making your food. Also if you want to bring liquor or suvirnees do it now before you get to your gate. Step 10, get to your gate. Go down the escalator to take a train to your gate. Took about 10 minutes. Step 11, after getting off the train, take two escalators upstairs to the gate. Passport check again for gate L and took about 10 minute. Wait not done yet! Step 12, once boarding started. We scanned our ticker and thought oh our plane is here. No. You go downstairs and there was a bus waiting. No one tells you this is the bus for your flight. No clear signage. And if you are traveling w elderly or children. I’m sorry. This is the least handicap accessible place. No one cares. We all got on the bus and hoping there’s no mix up. And once you are off the bus then you clime up the stairs to the plane. And we were on the first bus, we believe there were at least two buses that brought everyone in and perhaps more. Boarding took about 50 minutes.
One thing to note, I’ve never been to such a horrible airport with staff not helpful and quite honestly rude. The lack of customer service here is just unbelievable. I will never complain to anyone about airports in America again. At least someone will help you and willing to talk to you. Will never ever come to Munich or German ever again. Rome airport custom experience seems like a breeze and they are so nice. Munich needs to learn something from their neighbors.
extremely slow passport control…
extremely slow passport control processes, excessive security lines, frustrating, confusing and wrong information given by both airport staff and Lufthansa staff.
Pray you don’t loose your baggage
Terrible! Our baggage got lost..had to go through this whole annoying process of lodging a lost baggage claim for them to send it to our accom (we were only here for three days mind you) but the staff here is shocking!!! They straight up lie to your face, we asked where our bags were and they said they weren’t at the airport.. my partner had an AirTag on the bag telling us it was in the airport. They also said you HAD to get the bags delivered, when pick up was actually an option on the website… They just say whatever to get you out of their face.
Very bad experience me and my family…
Very bad experience me and my family where on standby for Munich to London (Heathrow) we got checked in and they sent our bags through, then at the gate they told us there was no seats. As any other person would do we looked for the next flight but before we have to collect our bags. We have been here for 2 hours now waiting for our bags to turn up nobody has given us any beneficial advice and we have no clue what we are gonna do. They have told us multiple times “give it 10 minutes” we have and no bags. This airport needs to sort out recruitment of staff ext as this is very bad service. Do not recommend flying to or from here.
Snail staff, treated like children
Slow to unboard, bus was late, but we still had 30ish minutes to make our flight and had fast pass priority. Then we got to passport control - good god. "Fast pass" is just a separate line in the que. There was 1-3 booths to check passports at any given time. Both booths had shift changes, with each staff member taking 2-3 minutes to change. And for asking about calling ahead to the gate, we were told no and to stay put.
Despite arriving with an hour to get to our gate, we had absolutely no chance to make our flight and it was clear that the Munich airport staff is either overstretched, doesn't care about the quality of their work or enjoys making passengers squirm. Either way, don't look for human beings here. Just people trying to protect their jobs over the people they are serving.
Robbed by vending machine
Robbed by vending machine, tried to call the number on the machine (X2) and it said it wasn’t a real number so I called the main airport and they said to add 0049 so I tried that and the number didn’t even ring. So I rang back the airport and they said they were busy, not in the mood to be robbed, definitely shit. Staff rude. Flight delayed 2 hours, airport layout awful, no water bottle refills and 0 help to get water from vending machine, sad excuse for an attempt at meal deals. Would have been 0 stars without the smoking area which I must admit, is convenient and necessary when navigating such a vast space of dissatisfaction. Airport staff riding scooters which normally I would think hell yeah, but right now I’m thinking, you’re taking the piss. I’m still waiting for compensation, not impressed.
Terrible airport with extremely rude…
Terrible airport with extremely rude lazy staff in all areas. No body willing to help with questions. Ignorant lazy security who take forever even in gastvtrack to pray and check your lugagge. Disgraceful behavior by security looking through your bags and see a couple of bars of chocolate and say you should guve them to us sharing is caring. How belligerent and unprofessional.
Staff stand around with long lines of people waiting and they couldn't care less.
Then they pull everything out leave it and then tell you to hurry up pack your stiff.they need the space.
This would be the worst Ignorant and unprofessional security anywhere in the world.
The airport itself is dirty, floors haven't been properly cleaned in ages. Staff ar shops and airlines staff are biligerant and unhelpful. This airport would easily win.the rudest most unhelpful airport staff in the world.
Everything is dysfunctional and poorly organised and the airport lounges are overcrowded with a very poor selection of food and drinks on offer. Not the worst lounges in the world but not far from it.
Overall its a very crappy airport with rude unhelpful lazy staff
I would rate it 1 out 1000, in other words avoid it whereever possible
Security was fast and friendly but gate personnel lied
Security was fast and friendly, the problem was with Lufthansa personnel at the gate who told us our flight to Brussels was “completely full” and we therefore HAD TO check in our carry on luggage. The plane had at least 20 empty seats and lots of overhead bins were empty. Now we are waiting a long time in Brussels airport to get our carry on luggage from the carousel and will miss our train connection. I will never believe the Lufthansa gate people again.
Unfriendly Experience at Munich Airport
It almost seems as though being rude is part of the job description at Munich Airport.
If you don't enjoy dealing with tired travellers (people who have already spent three hours on a hot, crowded train) or with passengers who may not speak your language fluently, then an international airport might not be the best place to work.
Our experience at security was unnecessarily unfriendly. The security officer kept shouting that we had to move faster, but we were simply waiting for trays to become available. We literally couldn't move any quicker.
At most airports, they ask me to place my hiking boots in a tray before going through security. Here, the officer repeatedly shouted, "Shoes off!" I thought she meant to take them off, which I already had. Only later did I realise she meant they should not be placed in the tray because, at Munich Airport, shoes are screened separately after you walk through the metal detector. Had she simply said, "Please leave your shoes on" the misunderstanding could have been avoided. A sign would also have been helpfull. But the whole place lacked of visual information about the procedure.
The next security officer continued in the same abrupt manner, communicating only in short, barked commands. Speaking clearly in full sentences, even in German, which I understand, would have made things much easier. Rolling your eyes and showing irritation doesn't make the process more efficient; it simply creates confusion and stress. And is counter productive.
My partner and I initially laughed about how surprisingly unfriendly the experience was, but unfortunately that atmosphere continued after security. The staff in several of the shops were equally curt. There were no smiles, no friendly interactions, and it felt as though customers were an inconvenience rather than welcome guests.
I've travelled through many airports around the world, and this was one of the least welcoming experiences I've had. I'll certainly try to avoid Munich Airport in the future whenever I have a choice.

The worst airport I've ever laid my…
The worst airport I've ever laid my eyes on, everything about this airport is horribly designed to the point where I can't find a person in the airport that hasn't missed their flight.
The worst airport experience i've ever…
The worst airport experience i've ever had. Arrived in T2, there is zero information about connecting flights. No staff at arrivals to direct you like in any other airport. After 40 minutes i found a staff member and when i asked if he could tell me where Royal Jordanian is flying from (as there is no information available anywhere), i was told he doesnt work for royal jordanian. So eventually i tried finding the gate online, found it- works out it's Terminal 1. Found a shuttle bus gate. No staff there and still no actual flight information from T1. Says shuttle goes every 10mins - took 30. If you have short connection - u will never make it. Avoid this airport at all costs - i know I will...
Dreadful
Dreadful. This place makes Heathrow look efficient. Signposting is variously misleading, contradictory, confusing or just missing completely. We were forced to pre-register again for the EU EES system even though the EU website is clear that we didn't need to because we had already pre-registered on a previous entry to the EU. Food is horribly expensive.
Don't go here. Save your money
Not even a smoking area could make being treated like a criminal worth it. Shittiest traveling experience I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. If I ever have to take a flight in the future I will be sure to avoid booking any flight that connects through here. Absolute dogshit
Very bad customer service there
Very bad customer service there. Couldn’t talk to anyone after losing luggage.
Unclear signage and wayfinding
Unclear signage and wayfinding. Incorrect signs that lead you to the wrong gate. Redo it and get it right…clear and accurate signage is absolutely fundamental at an airport.
Confusing layout and poor signage
Confusing layout and poor signage, it is strangely disorientating. Long queues at duty free, felt sorry for travellers only buying a bottle of water queuing for ages, also couldn't find anywhere to charge mobile, eventually we did only after trekking round for ages. Poor and expensive food choices too. Staff grumpy and a bit rude. Overall a very poor experience given airport is modern and spacious.
