Shocking service at NK Motors (Derby)
I have been a customer with NK Motors (Derby) since 2008 and had good service. Until my recent service and MOT on 15th July 2026 and has changed my whole opinion.
When I arrived, I was greeted by a very nice lady at reception to book my car in (hence the 1 star), I mentioned last year my air filter had not been changed (August 23 was the last time [As I marked the date on the filter]) She said this will be checked along with the cabin filter on my service.
I got home and needed to get something out of the glovebox and found the contents had not been disturbed, so I physically checked the cabin filter against the service sheet, which stated it was OK. It was full of debris and black. I also checked the air filter, again debris found. No mention of needed replacing. The service documentation has therefore been knowingly completed as OK, when it had not even been checked.
Therefore my doubts have been raised as to what has actually been done and not done, I would class that as fraudulent and dangerous, This particular issue may be a minor issue but this is still not acceptable. I then sent an email to that effect, to Chris Bryan (service manager) with the photos on 15th July, then added Sanjeev Kumar (Group Managing Director) and resent the email on the 16th July as neither had acknowledged or replied. So as I still have not had a response from NK Motors, I decided to send a copy of my email on 20th July, to the CEO of Kia UK Paul Philpott, asking for his comments regarding a Kia approved dealership, falsifying service documents. It is now 22nd July and received no response from anyone at NK Motors or Kia.
This is totally unacceptable and my advice is to stay well clear of both Kia and NK Motors.

This is an update on my Kia Sportage…
This is an update on my Kia Sportage purchase from NK motors Derby on 13th April 2026. Please see my two previous reviews.
I've now received a response from the motor ombudsman to say that they will be investigating my case.
It will be interesting to see what explanation NK gives to my case handler. Mr Murdock told me via email that they'd fully prepared my car and there was nothing wrong with it.
Fully prepared? Their disrespect for their trusting customer is beyond belief. They failed to perform the upholstery treatment I'd paid for, so did they also fail to apply the ceramic coating to the paintwork? I can't prove that one.
They failed to carry out a diagnostic check when 'fully preparing' my car. That would have revealed the faulty wiring that their head office had instructed all dealerships to identify and repair.
Of course, it could be that NK motors didn't receive that bulletin from KIA head office, or perhaps they just ignore them?
But had they 'fully prepared' my car and ran diagnostics before selling to me they'd have identified the faulty wiring and repaired it.
'Fully prepared'? I feel 'fully shafted', disrespected and lied to. Be warned and wary. And make sure you ask for a video of your vehicle being treated with any product you purchase, such as the marvellous gen3 revolution that NK will probably push you to buy.
Can the Ombudsman grant me my 'right to reject' for a full refund of the £26,999 I paid, or the £1,000 refund that I asked of Mr Murdock?
I've no Idea, but at least my reviews might prevent other customers from going through this. I was particularly vulnerable. They must have seen me coming.

Don’t buy from here if you expect after care. Chris refused to look at a fault after having my car all day. They just checked for a fault code and told me there’s nothing they can do, despite the fact they are supposed to be Kia specialists. They charged me diagnostics for this too. Kia Customer service spoke to them and told me they should do more for me, but I might be better off booking elsewhere. I’ve now booked into another dealership, many miles away. I made a complaint and have had no reply in over a month. Fuming with NK Motors and they are my only local dealership.
Update: on my Google review Simon Murdock accused me of lying. So you be the judge of this disgusting dealership. I’ve not even mentioned the other stuff that’s happened.
I'm adding to my review that I posted 6…
I'm adding to my review that I posted 6 days ago. That post explains what's happened.
Mr Murdock emailed me in response to that post. He was displeased that I'd questioned if he'd lied to me, he said he considered that to be slander. I refuted slander because I'd merely stated the proven facts, that Burton Kia had repaired faulty wiring on my car and provided a report. I emailed that report to Mr Murdock who replied telling me there'd been no fault on the car and that Burton Kia had only performed an 'update'. I questioned if he was lying to me, or was he saying that Burton Kia were lying to me? Was a fault repaired or not? I did remove that section from the post (as he requested) in the hope he'd be reasonable about compensation.
I'd accept £1000. That's for failing to perform a diagnostic check which resulted in selling me a car with faulty wiring (which I'd never have bought if I'd known ) and the distress and inconvenience caused by that and other issues. He doesn't agree, hence this further post.
I'll now try the Motor Ombudsman. I still hope to reject the vehicle for a full refund despite the 30 days having expired, because I can show that I put my request in writing to Mr Murdock well within that timescale. He denied me that right claiming there was no fault (which of course there was.)
In fact, Burton Kia explained that a bulletin had been issued to all dealerships to ensure this wiring fault was fixed.
He did offer to check the vehicle. As if I'd want that when he was disputing the fault.
Burton Kia subsequently repaired and lengthened the broken wiring, diagnostics then showed no fault present.
If only I'd stuck with Motorpoint. A terrible time with this company, which I truly didn't need following the death of my Husband.

I am extremely disappointed with dealer
I am extremely disappointed with the aftersales service I have received from NK Motors Kia (Chilwell).
I collected my vehicle on 22 May 2026. On the day of collection, I reported wheel arch trim issues on the front left and rear left side of the vehicle and was advised that replacement parts would be ordered.
A few days later, I also discovered an issue with the driver side door trim and reported it to the dealership, providing photographs.
Since then, I have sent multiple emails, followed up several times and escalated the matter to management. I was advised that the aftersales team would contact me regarding the repairs, but no contact has been received.
As of 18 June 2026, I am still waiting for a meaningful update or resolution. After nearly four weeks, I have completely lost confidence in the dealership’s ability to provide effective aftersales support.
My biggest disappointment is not the issues themselves, but the lack of communication and follow-up throughout the process. Customers should not have to repeatedly chase for updates on issues reported from the day of collection.
Aftercare needs work
I purchased a vehicle from NK Motors Long Eaton last year. The sale of the car was perfect, as you would expect it to be. The staff were helpful & the car was ready as promised on the date arranged for collection. It is the aftersales & the communication that let this company down.
After a few days of having the car, we noticed that the passenger door didn’t lock & we had a leak. I did get this booked in & the car was with them for approx. 2 weeks as the locks got fixed & the thermostat/coolant was replaced. I had the car back for 4 days & noticed this was still leaking. I was advised to take it back in however with them carrying out the repairs at the Chilwell branch, they knew nothing about it as there was no communication between branches.
The car was with them for a total of 8 weeks resulting to it then needing a new battery as it was just sat there & every time I called I would get a different reason/excuse as to why it wasn’t ready. I was promised call backs that never came & it was just a very exhausting situation to be in.
There is no communication unless this is chased. I also had to chase up my log book which was not received but again, there was no communication to tell me that this had been done therefore because it had been longer than 6 weeks, I had to pay £25 for a replacement logbook that I didn’t even know was missing.
I had a year’s warranty on the car which at the time of the sale, sounded amazing. However, if anything is wrong, you are waiting at least 6 weeks for an appointment & then the x amount of time that they have the vehicle for as it isn’t fixed straight away or when they say it will be. If anything was wrong with my vehicle within the warranty period, I ended up taking it to my regular garage & paying for the work to be repaired & received it back the same day as paying for this to be taken somewhere else was just much easier then having to go through the whole experience of dealing with this company again which is really disappointing as you have the warranty there for a reason but it just wasn’t worth using.
I honestly wouldn’t recommend this company & would not buy from them again which is a shame as I had high hopes for them originally with it being a new branch that had opened.
I just wish the communication was better & they told you the truth rather then each staff member giving different excuses.
Auran Sharma is a very apt salesman
Auran Sharma is a very apt salesman, not only is he extremely helpful but also goes that extra mile to ensure you get a fair deal not only with your trade in price but also your new buy.
Moving from Manual to Hybrid Automatic
Auran is a lovely person to deal with not your typical pushy salesman, Auran allows you time to look at the cars and make up your mind. Then when it comes to actually buying the car he will ensure you get the best you can for your money. He guides you with extras and his recommendations are always genuine.
Service Department
Absolutely impossible to contact their service department, phoned at approx 10:30 got an answerphone, left a message no reply by 14:30. Phoned again was told by receptionist he would go and tell them to ring me, no phone call at 17:30 ,not the first time I have not been able to contact their service department. This is a shame as I have had a very good experiences with them up to now. They are letting themselves down.

Told my insurance company it was £7000 for repairs and will be total loss. Got parts list from bodyshop. wouldnt show what part prices were or tell me what parts are for. E.G listed was "nut, nut, nut, bolt, particle filter, rear bumper, badge" yet there was no physical damage to the car. Went down to garage to inspect vehicle myself and alot of the "damage" reported by them wasnt actually true. Honestly annoyed at this as it was to be a trusted and authorised garage by my insurance company. also there seems to be extra milage on my car. roughly 200 miles extra. disappointing. will be avoiding this company in future.

NK Motors Price gougers
I recently took my car to NK Motors for an MOT, which it failed due to needing two new front tyres. That part was completely fair and expected. What wasn’t fair, however, was the initial quote I was given: £465 for the replacement.
After questioning this price, I was told they would “see what they could do.” Just six minutes later, I received a call back offering the same work for £375. A £90 drop in such a short space of time doesn’t inspire confidence, it raises serious concerns. It strongly suggests that the original quote was inflated, and only reduced once challenged.
Even at £375, the price remains noticeably higher than well-known tyre specialists, which makes the situation even more frustrating. Customers shouldn’t have to negotiate or push back just to receive something closer to a reasonable price.
This experience has unfortunately cost NK Motors my trust and my future business. Fair and transparent pricing should be the standard from the outset, not something customers have to fight for.
5 Star customer service.
I'd just like to say that I've never before experienced such a kind and caring sales person who went above and beyond to make me feel important not just to sell a vehicle but treated me as a friend. He was honest and didn't put any pressure on. Whatever decision I made, he supported me, so thank you massively Auran from the the Derby branch, I'm loving my new vehicle.
Wish I looked at reviews before
Wish I looked at reviews before, nothin but problems and they don’t care about warranty work and say just call Kia direct if you have a problem. On hold for average 30 mins each time I call them! It’s all about selling and up selling service plans. Left a valuable person with out a car
Don't trust what they say get everything in writting
The sales rep who sold me the car promised, as part of the sale, that they would include a service and repair a number of scratches. When I collected the car, the service had not been carried out and not all of the scratches had been repaired. This meant I had to revisit and sit for two hours while they finally completed the scratch work.
All staff backed the sales rep (Ali) even though he admitted to promising the service, and because it wasn’t in writing, they told me there was nothing they could do.
When complaining to the manager, Simon, all he did was offer me the option to purchase a service plan, which would cost more than a local KIA dealership (great customer service). To add insult to injury, five weeks after the purchase I received an email telling me the service was due and asking if I would like to book the car in to have this carried out (talk about rubbing salt into the wound).
All I can recommend is that if you deal with this garage, make sure everything is in writing and do not pay for the car until you are completely satisfied with everything.
These guys are a bunch of liars
These guys are a bunch of lier s, sold me a car ,took a £500 deposit, knowing there was no car to sell me, told me the car got damaged to ns doors i asked for pics , they sent me another car which was damaged to os, total different car wouldn't buy off them please go somewhere else why take a da deposit and hold for a week car dealers they call themselves, it should be rogue traders, plus I lost £212 on train fares. And also the car is just passed its mot its on gov site have have proof , emails, pics , just had a email, today after speaking to Simon,27th Feb, still can't tell me me about false pics of car, the was described a as a lot of structural damage, .now the car there saying it was sold on , repaired , mot in a week, I thought i was getting some were speaking to Simon, I like , some people put your trust in these guys ,
Dire after service...sadly
I purchased a second hand car back in August 2025. On the test drive there was a knock, which we were assured would be sorted before we collected, after a service. Once collected the knock persisted. After returning at least 3 times, countless phone calls, lots of chasing and finally a new steering rack, the car is fixed. This was January 2026.
The 3 month warranty was up and I'd barely had the car so requested a fresh warranty. We've been courteous, understanding and polite throughout. Sadly we were given excuse after excuse as to why we were waiting for the new warranty. Finally after considering contacting Trading Standards because we felt we'd come to the end of the road, they issued the warranty.
The sale was very smooth but the aftercare a very steep, upward struggle.
Such a shame because the staff were very pleasant.

The five star review reflects the setting for buying a new car at NK Motors, Derby and the staff member we worked with. Auran Sharma gave best care to ensure our needs were met in both purchasing the new car and arranging to offer a good price for the existing car. We were grateful for the smooth transition to the new vehicle and would like to say Thank You for your support.
