Had the carpet fitted on the 9th of Feb 2023 after a couple of days noticed there was a line in the carpet which went from wall to wall, had the company out that fitted the carpet to look and they said it was a fault in the weave, they told me Penthouse would be in touch and that was Wednesday 15th Feb we are now on 23rd Feb and have not heard of nobody.

At first sight, Penthouse Carpets is 'delivering the goods' - 62 reviews and 85% rate them 'Excellent'. However, if you delve down into the stats - more than half of these 'excellent' reviews relate to sending samples promptly - wow! That's fantastic! Sending samples in the post - really, five stars? How difficult can that be? They must all have post office experience - surely!

Is that what you should be judging a carpet manufacturer on - sending samples? No, I don't think so either.

So lets concentrate instead on the numerous one star reviews (11% of the reviews) in fact. These reviews exactly mirror my experience with Penthouse Carpets. I bought mine through a local supplier and, like the other unsuspecting buyers, experienced 'shading', 'pile flattening' and other, apparently, quite normal phenomena particular to cut pile carpets. I went through the same process - 'independent inspector' comes, states the obvious and suggests that I haven't been using the correct type of vacuum cleaner (with a beater bar) on a daily basis in order to alleviate said 'natural' shading / pile flattening etc. Net result, my carpet too looks like it has been exposed to several years of Michael Jackson's ghost 'moon-walking' across its surface - but after only a matter of weeks of it being on the floor.

The long and the short of it is, Penthouse Carpets appears to be used to fending off these complaints in a seemingly well-rehearsed manner - i.e. inspector calls, sees this 'natural' (though apparently inexplicable) phenomenon of shading / pile reversal / flattening, and suggests you have (perhaps) exacerbated this 'natural phenomenon' because you haven't been using the right type of vacuum cleaner often enough. Naughty customer! Funnily enough, nobody warned me about this phenomenon / vacuuming requirement when I was buying the carpet nor, strangely, is it highlighted on any of Penthouse Carpets' literature accompanying the samples. So, if you are one of the unlucky 11% (probably more by now), then tough luck old boy/girl!

If you are still reeling and over-joyed at the speed with which you received your samples, then I'd suggest that you quit while you're ahead. If, however, you decide to ignore the 11% and do go ahead and buy a Penthouse cut pile carpet, then make sure to also buy an appropriate vacuum cleaner and get used to using it every day. After all, you wouldn't want Michael Jackson's ghost moon walking over it while you're not looking - would you?!
