Regent Holidays Avis 

We had a fantastic holiday organised by Regent Holidays. 2 nights in Oslo, 2 in Flam and 2 in Oslo. Everything worked like clockwork and the staff at the hotels and on the fjord trip, trains and coach were incredibly friendly and helpful. We thought we might see people booked on the same trip repeatedly, but it wasn't like that at all. Like organising your own trip, but all the transport and accommodation booked for you with loads of useful information and all your tickets sent to you. We will definitely book with Regent again.

Taiwan is a wonderful country and this tour took in the best of it - it was well-organised and paced; it was thoughtful and we were looked after well.

However, we ended up with a guide and a driver which we hadn't requested – we had specifically said we wanted to travel independently – and this was not made clear in any of the accompanying documentation. I should emphasise that once there we realised we had to go along with it, and the guide was brilliant and added highly positively to the experience, but the point is that the company told us it was independent and were not open about the fact that it wasn't.

Also two major parts of the itinerary didn't happen - a boat trip (which as described would have been impossible) and, disappointingly, a cooking course.

Spent an enjoyable two weeks in Indonesia with Regent Holidays. The trip was a contrast of amazing activities, great local guides, and lackluster guides from the company. First the positive:
1) Two Day Trek in Sumatra hiking with the Orangutans, camping overnight in the jungle. Great food, amazing hike,
2) Two day climb of 3000+ Meter Volcano in Java, camping at 2700 Meters and getting up at 3:00 AM to reach the summit by sunrise. Great mountain guide, good team to transport the gear (if only they didn't smoke) and great views,.
3) Very nice visits to Yogyakarta including the two famous temples Borobudur and Prambanan

So why only 2 stars vs. 5 given the quality of the activities:
1) Guides from company provided limited to no value and seemed more there as chaperones than of help. Their physical fitness would not have allowed them to participate in the activities so they simply represented added cost. A driver would have been sufficient and preferable
2) Padded Drive Times: Throughout the trip we kept checking google maps for drive times and it was always 1/2 of what they indicated. This was annoying at times but for early morning activities very annoying, Arriving for a sunrise at Borobudur about 40 minutes before they even opened the gates, especially after arriving late the night before into Yogyakarta. We should have left much later or ideally gotten a hotel there for the night before especially as we arrived late from the airport for the long drive to Yogyakarta only to drive back out. Similar situations played out throughout the trip until on our final ride to the airport we left 2 hours after the guide recommended and were still early for our flight. Similar story on early morning train where we. negotiated a later departure and still were way to early at the trains station 5 minutes from our hotel.
3) Unusable Bikes, No Kids Helmets: We arranged a half day biking tour which we had to abandon. The bikes were barely ridable and the helmets wouldn't fit our kids. We were in decathlon later that afternoon with tons of kids bike helmets so clearly not a supply issue...
4) The inflated drive times made us question going to Mt Bromo but decided to proceed. On route there we got clarity on the planned activities and luckily intervened to hire a mountain guide (at my own expense) for the day to hike away from the crowds and get a more enjoyable and challenging experience.

There were a few other similar issues throughout which leaves me with the impression that it was a great trip if only we didn't have the company guides and just booked the activities directly.

The trip description more than lived up to expectations.
We could adapt it which was helpful. It meant we had an extra night in Bergen that gave us a chance to to see this amazing city.
We had a fabulous time. Regent should be proud of their work giving people a great time.

Moa did an excellent job of organising and booking our 11 night fly/drive holiday to Norway. We stayed in six very different locations en route, hotels were all good quality, starting in Bergen and finishing in Trondheim. It was a great pleasure to travel on good quality roads, with amazing tunnels and an efficient ferry system that linked the whole journey together and gave the driver extended periods to enjoy the amazing scenery. Overall there was plenty to see and explore at each stopover. Our only complaint on the holiday was the inclusion of an automated car collection system that was used by Hertz at Bergen. It was very poorly signed and completely devoid of any customer service/assistance. A couple of issues concerning the itinerary;
1. The journey from Alesund to Kristiansand mentioned island hopping to two islands (Finnoy and Ona) which we found was totally impossible because, firstly the ferries didn't operate on a Sunday and also there was just not enough time!
2. When we were at Kristiansand, the town that was made up of four different islands. It was suggested that we could do a boat trip to them, but we only had one night at that hotel so therefore there was insufficient time as we had to return the car to Hertz in Trondheim by 4pm. We actually needed another night there.

I really enjoyed my holiday to Tallinn - but I feel this was more down to the Estonians I encountered rather than a well-curated holiday.

When booking, I wasn’t really presented with any options. An itinerary was prepared and that was that. Having been to Tallinn now, the prepared itinerary wasn’t very logical. Nothing was planned for day 3 as that was ‘departure day’ but I didn’t fly until midnight! I wasn’t told what was popular in Tallinn or what was seasonal. I received little information from Regent.

I was told I would receive all necessary documents 10 days before I flew; they didn’t arrive until 6 days to go. Everything was emailed ‘for my convenience’ but with instructions to print and take them with me, which meant I had to go into work in the holidays to print everything off. I wasn’t purchased any luggage allowance with my flight (this had not been discussed with me) - again, this was ‘for my convenience’. I had to add this on myself. I was sent the wrong booking reference for my flights so I couldn’t access them. The day before my flight, I emailed my named travel consultant asking him to forward me an email regarding my flight. He did not respond.

It just felt rather unorganised and not very special. I have previously used other travel companies and it was a much more satisfying experience (I only didn’t use them this time because they only go to Scandinavia!)

The Regent company have very good customer service. They are always at the end of the phone line. Very well organized holiday to the Faroe Islands. The islands were fascinating if you want to get away from the crowds. Good hotels and the self-guided itinerary was very helpful. There were two negatives though. When we checked the hotel for the last night it was an hour and a half away from the airport and the return flight was early morning. We contacted Regent from the Faroes and they rebooked a more reasonable hotel. The worst thing was the hire car company who said we had scratched the car and charged us. We were sure we had not damaged it in any way. A scam!

The tour covered a lot of beautiful western Bulgaria on a well chosen itinerary. Every place deserved more time than was allowed. We had an excellent guide with whom we spent much time discussing the area's complicated history.

the staff at regent holidays made my 70th birthday a special adventure, i had svalbard on my list of places to vist we love norway. the hotels and flights all went with out any hitches, we cant thank the staff enough for thier help

Quality of hotels not good enough
Its important to say that Fergus who arranged the trip was great.
This wasn’t an expensive holiday but nor was in cheap. If you deduct the price of the flights and the transfers you are left with a very healthy daily budget for hotels. The hotels just weren’t good enough.
So i feel fleeced and wished i had put the trip together myself

We had an amazing trip to Norway.The 'Norway in the Nutshell ' trip was wonderful with fantastic scenery .
Everything went according to plan.Moa from Regent was very helpful with good suggestions.

Everything went as planned with informative guides and good hotels.

We loved our holiday in Azores arranged by Regent. We discussed what we were looking for in the holiday and they produced an excellent plan which provided us with a perfect holiday. The land tours to the east and west end of Sao Miguel were amazing and whale watching on a catamaran was fantastic. The Azores are stunningly beautiful and friendly and Regent is an excellent company to help plan for your tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sweden A beautiful country and a well organised itinerary made it a relaxing journey. Our hotels were great and well positioned for all we wanted to see. The trains were comfortable and on time. We could definitely have done with more time in every destination but that is always going to be the case. Another time...

Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Alison and Stef helped us get the most out of fantastic trip to Iceland. Targeted the itinerary to suit our interests and knew the best places to visit with extra tips.
Would highly recommend regent holidays.

Faroe Islands
We have just returned from a wonderful holiday with Regent in the Faroe Islands - somewhere I have wanted to see for many years.
We went for the all inclusive 7 night experience - and it did everything it says on their tin and more. A great local guide, flexing the itinerary to fit in with sunshine and rain... Wonderful scenery (and plenty of time spent out in it) ... Hospitable evenings... Great food and accommodation.

This was our first holiday where we flew following my husbands stroke. I therefore had added requirements of the trip which were all managed and arranged smoothly and the trip was a big success

Fantastic holiday, good mixture of chiling and exploring. All arrangements worked fine, the guides were excellent. Would highly recommend (this was the Southern Albania tour).

Just back from a 5 day/4 night trip to the Faroe Islands. All pre trip information was on time, detailed and professional. Arrangements were good and local tours were interesting and well planned. I'd certainly use Regent again.

We have just returned from a lovely holiday from Slovenia. We had 7 days in both Ljubljana and Lake Bled. Everything went so smoothly with the transfers and hotel arrangements. The hotels were placed perfectly in the centres meaning everything could be assessed easily. Would definitely book another holiday!
