SAYWITZ PROPERTIES is a NIGHTMARE and Barry Saywitz is the definition of an inhumane, mean, greedy, lying, dishonest slumlord who has no business owning residential properties! He abuses and gaslights tenants and kicked out a 71 yr old disabled veteran when he acquired this property.
Just days after I moved into his Driftwood property in Palm Desert, his painters completely sealed me inside with with my front door being covered with paper and black tape without a single word of warning. He failed to give proper notice of this scheduled maintenance and continued painting for the next 2 days behind my unit in my private patio which he later claimed was a common area.
When I complained, he threatened eviction in writing and harassed and bullied me for complaining.
He lies like he breaths and will insult your intelligence with his filthy gaslighting and disrespect for you as a tenant and human being. A one star review is generous as he deserves zero stars.
Barry flat-out lied and promised me the ugly, prison-style pool fence would come down before I moved in--it's still there, turning what was advertised as a nice property into a total eyesore. He says it's because of "his insurance" which is bs because the prior owner(s) NEVER had such a fence installed. There are no pools in the desert with such an unsightly and intrusive structure. He already has the required gate with a self closing door around the property. He mostly likely has no insurance or is too cheap to invest in proper coverage.
He called me a liar when I informed him that the agent who showed me the property promised it would come down before I moved in.
Why would anyone pay good hard earned money to move into a property with this monstrosity of an inconvenience and eyesore around the pool - I certainly would NOT! Furthermore it's rude, disrespectful and gross to call a tenant a liar.
Speaking of the pool, when I moved in, it was deemed unsafe by the city because it was green. Now that it's "open" he does not maintain it so it's safe to swim in. I complained about the filth and debris in the pool and instead of apologizing, he accused me of calling the city anonymously which I did not do.
And that's not all. He ripped out all the gorgeous desert landscaping that gave the place character and replaced it with blinding floodlights that blast my windows (and all other units) all night like living in a prison yard - full daylight outside at all hours of the night.
The four (once charming) units now have views of the ugly dirty, dusty pool fence, public street and parking lot. He calls this an "upgrade" when it's obvious that he doesn't want to pay for the maintenance that he charges outside of the lease an extra $55 for.
Barry has also forged documents, snuck extra fees into my lease after the fact, and treats tenants like disposable sources of cash. He gaslights residents, brushes off legitimate safety issues, and seems far more interested in profit than in running a habitable property. His so-called "improvements" only make the property uglier and more oppressive.
Based on my experience and reading many other negative reviews, I'm certain Barry will respond to this with lies, deflection, and gaslighting. Don't believe a word of it. He will call me a liar blah blah blah - he's full of $hit
Barry Saywitz is a ruthless slumlord who cares nothing for tenant safety, honesty, or decency. If you value your physical safety, mental health, or even the slightest peace of mind--STAY AWAY from Saywitz Properties. Living here has been a traumatic disaster I wouldn't wish on anyone.
