Used one of their door stops. Two screws sheared in half, made of putty. Even cheapest nastiest chinese products I used have better quality screws.
Plating on couple 5yr old internal door handles is coming off.
Looks like bean counters are using cheapest suppliers they can find.
I'm stay clear of brand going forward.
The lock would not connect with the…
The lock would not connect with the Apple iPhone app. I tried for over 2 hours. I did all the different methods. This is a very poor lock. Now I have a big door with just one deadbolt key and a very expensive lock on it that doesn’t work.

Schlage is Schlegt (Schlage is bad)
After just over a year and a half, the lock started cracking due to UV. When I logged a support case, Allegiant eventually came back to say that their warranty didn't cover scratches. I then waited a little while longer for the "scratches" to be evidently cracks. They then said the product was not IP rated so warranty would not cover the damage.
Do not buy if your front door has any sunlight exposure.
Schlage Encode lock
We have owned the Schlage Encode lock for about 8 months now and it has worked seamlessly with our short term rental property management platform. The customer support has been outstanding. Our wifi changed and we needed to update the lock. We called customer support and Tan was super patient and effectively walked us through the process quickly and efficiently.
Never Ever Ever Buy a Schlage Lock
In my mind, a lock has one job... But Schlage locks?!? A complete and total failure at their one job. Sometimes they work, more often, they do not. They just randomly go offline. They just randomly malfunction. They just randomly lock you out of your own house. The other day, I used the keypad to enter, placed something in the foyer and went to lock the door behind me as I headed back out. Except in those 10 seconds between me opening the door and me trying to lock the door, the damn thing quit YET AGAIN. Literally, I'm stuck standing outside unable to lock the door. And I'd like to say this was the first time, but no. I'd say this Schlage Encode lock that I paid upwards of $300 for, functions correctly <15% of the time. The rest of the time I hope and pray. Save yourself the time. Save yourself the headache (because the company refuses to stand behind it - warranty be damned). There are plenty of other locks out there - buy one of the other ones.
Does not back their warranty
I'm beyond upset about their warranty. We moved into a house that had one on all entry doors. We have not lived there for more than 2.5 years and we've had to replace 3 of the locks (with the same brand). Unfortunately, when providing the sticker for warranty information, the company claimed they were made more than 3 years ago and would not cover the warranty. This was after over 2 weeks worth or correspondence with scripted replies. Very, very disappointed.
We purchased a $550.00 smart lock
We purchased a $550.00 smart lock. Schlage never mentioned that we needed Apple Home mini pod an extra $150.00 to permit the lock to fully function. Okay we purchased the Mini. It took hours to connect the Schlage. The CS department was worthless. Apple support helped to connect it. Later I planned to change emails for the Schlage account. Nothing is easy dealing with 21st century Schlage. Google search advised we had to delete the Schlage account to change emails. NO Way! Schlage makes great door hardware. Schlage needs to stay out of the software business.
Done with Schlage
I have purchased a few Schlage “smart” locks over the past couple years and today my most recent, a SmartSense lock only 6 months old jammed up (mechanically) and the thumbturn doesn’t move. I’m done with these expensive locks and replacing them every 6 - 14 months. The firmware has never been able to update successfully, despite my bringing my router outside to the gate on a 100ft Ethernet cable. I will say this most recent lock had the best app interface of any of them (which is still pretty bad)
I have purchased many
I have purchased many, many Schlage locks and door knobs. From the WiFi encode door locks to standard exterior door locks and deadbolts to multiple interior door knobs. I have several short term rental units and every exterior door is equipped with an encode deadbolt and all the interior doors have Schlage knobs. These are the only brand of door knobs and locks I trust for high traffic use and longevity. The programming of the encode is seamless and very user friendly even with little to no previous use. The passcode can be added, changed and deleted remotely as well as accessed while you are away from the lock. This makes it a true blessing in short term rental units when you have a new booking and need to add an access code. The app also allows you to share the access code which the guest with instructions on how to use the lock once they arrive. This saves from having to have keys in a lock box, texting instructions on where to find it and the ever popular “lost keys”. No more keys to leave behind to get lost saves from having to call a locksmith to rekey all the locks or having to make a trip to replace door locks time after time.
On my home I never have to wonder if I locked the door after leaving. Just simply open the app and check. Yes I personally have 4 encode locks at my home. If ever I am away and I need to let someone in I can also remotely lock the lock and never have to give out a code to someone I don’t need to have permanent access to my home. And I absolutely love the option to put a time frame on any and all access codes to only allow use for certain times or days. Now no more worries about the house Keeper getting in, the neighbor putting that package inside the front door. You can also see when the kids get home from school. I absolutely love the quality and durability of the Schlage brand and I would never consider any other.
Poor Quality
Schlage Sense is an expensive product yet its quality is poor. Used this product for only 2 yrs+ and keypad suddenly dies after battery change. Apparently, based on my research this seemed to be a common issue. Reached out to customer service but was just advised me to buy a new one since this past their 3 yr. warranty period. Bought this lock while our house is still under construction. Do not waste your money.
Electronic locks do not work
We live in an apartment building that has electronic Schlage locks and they are absolutely the worst locks we have ever encountered. The batteries run out at least once a month, and we were recently locked out of our apartment late at night after returning from a trip. What’s more, sometimes the lock resets itself after the batteries are replaced, so that it no longer recognizes our key fobs. In short, these electronic locks are trash. Do not buy them.
VERY POOR QUALITY
VERY POOR QUALITY, AND EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE! BE WARNED!!!
We have a front door digital lock with keypad and keyfobs instead of a key, model Schlage S-480
The front plastic surface has developed cracks in the plastic (not even where we place our fingers for the code). According to a quick google this is caused not by finger presses etc but by the sun or external elements.
When I contacted Schlage, their immediate response was:
1) Caused by the customer (even though I stated the cracks we not in the same area)
2) The exterior lock should not be exposed to the external elements.......hello? Its an external lock for a front door, you do not fit these on internal doors. Either (Jess) the customer services representative is short of a few brain cells, or she thought I was, and tried to BS me.
Anyway she didn't respond to this when I questioned this point, but just stated she could not help me.
Unfortunately this is a typical importer of cheap rubbish to Australia with poor customer service.
Don't waste your money with Schlage / Allegion Australia, go and buy from a reputable brand like a Samsung digital lock or Philips etc etc.
I can't leave zero starts, but if I could.....
I hate then
I am so tired of not being able to connect to the WiFi. We own a rental company and we are constantly having issues. Looking for a another lock to use.
Extremely Disappointed with Schlage Customer Care & “Lifetime Mechanical Warranty”
I am extremely disappointed with Schlage and their so-called lifetime mechanical warranty. A mechanical lock should always work with the physical key or the thumbturn, even if the batteries die. That’s the whole point of having a mechanical backup.
But our Schlage Sense lock completely failed on the mechanical side.
The thumbturn is extremely hard to rotate, as if something is grinding or getting stuck.
The physical key doesn’t open the lock at all, no matter how many times we tried.
If the key can’t operate the lock, that’s clearly a mechanical failure, yet the customer care representative kept insisting it’s “not a mechanical issue,” which makes absolutely no sense. They refused to acknowledge the problem even after explaining that the lock will not open with the key, which is the most basic function any mechanical lock should have.
For a brand that advertises reliability and lifetime mechanical coverage, this experience has been extremely frustrating. I expected better from Schlage. If this is how they handle warranty claims, I would not recommend Schlage products to anyone.
You could never get through on the…
You could never get through on the toll-free line that rings four times and quits ridiculous My lock will not connect to the internet I change batteries and I can't get it to reconnect nobody answers the phones ridiculous
Schlage is the worst of the worst
Schlage is the worst of the worst. I made the sad mistake of buying 10 Schlage wifi deadbolts. They are going into the garbage. They don’t work. They have needed firmware updates for a year, but they have not been able to update and Schlage has no idea as to how to fix the problem. Also, the locks say that they are locked when they are unlocked and that they are unlocked when they are locked. And, to make matters worse, Schlage does not have technical assistance. The only thing they have is a form that you fill out. They will mail a reply after five to ten business days. Schlage does not provide a phone number or a chat for technical assistance. If anyone is stupid enough to want Schlage wifi deadbolts, you can get them out of my garbage.Schlage is obviously a company that could not care less about its customers.
Beware: “Smart” Schlage Locks Can Lock You Out
I purchased three Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolts because I trusted the brand and needed reliable remote access for my rental properties. Instead, all three locks suffered the same critical flaw: when connected to WiFi, the batteries drain rapidly and the lock shuts down completely — leaving guests locked out with luggage and me scrambling to fix emergencies across time zones.
I’ve spent hundreds in replacements, labor, guest refunds, and stress. I opened a support ticket, was promised a response within 24–48 hours… and then heard nothing for more than three weeks. Phone numbers lead to automated loops with no help and no humans.
A smart lock that can’t stay powered — and customer service that won’t respond — is a deal-breaker. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere before investing in Schlage products.
Schlage Ease S2
Installed the Schlage Ease S2 on our front door and the finish on the keypad cover started bubbling/peeling after normal outdoor use in full sun. Support confirmed the Ease S2 only has a 2-year warranty for finish. Really disappointed with durability and the warranty coverage. Wouldn’t buy again.
Schlage delivers on lifetime warranty
I contacted the company with a 8 year old Camelot handleset. It had become hard to open the door from the outside. When I took the set apart it was clear that some of the internal part were close to woren out. The company promised limited lifetime warranty. They lived up to the promise and sent me a new set.
