We are delighted with our loft extension completed by South London Lofts. The speed was impressive - just over 2 months from scaffolding going up to completion of their work. Then another month for carpets and painting which we had to manage separately.
The project management was good and they kept things moving. Although they weren't too happy with how many questions we asked throughout the process, it's something I would recommend if the process is new to you.
It's important to bear in mind that the quote is for a bare bones solution and there were a lot of added costs which had to be incurred to enable them to complete their work. But this was true of all 4 companies we asked for quotes from and South London came out cheapest. Whilst there were a few visible cost savings on their part to make it cheaper, we were still happy with the end result.
The different people who worked to put the loft together were all respectful of our home which is nice when there's so many people coming in and out over a long period.
There were a few things that didn't work out but nothing as a direct result of South London Lofts, although some added advice would have helped save us money down the line.
I would recommend them.

I had a great experience with SLL. Although I had a few teething problems with them, once the project got started, it went really smoothly and the end product was second to none. The team was polite and very professional. They did such a fantastic job within the timeline. I can't praise them enough. Everyone keeps commenting on how wow my bedroom looks. Yes, it does look wow indeed. I have been recommending SLL to friends and family and would continue to happily recommend them because of their expertise and professionalism. I had a great experience with SLL. I wanted to move quick on my loft conversion and they were ready to start after a couple of weeks. The work was done quickly and we are very happy with the end result. The PM and his team were always polite and easily available, we even got them to do a few additional jobs (remove chimney breasts & install a downstairs toilet). I would be happy to recommend SLL.

The work was in line with expectations: they respected specifications and timeline. Experienced company, they did almost 10 houses in my street. Pricing is lower than competition

Home improvements happened once in your life, if you are lucky it’s a remarkable experience.

After I had some quotations from different companies I was struggled. Which one is trustworthy? Mr. Craig Taylor, the owner from south London loft was recommended by my neighbor whom gives me the confidence to start with my whole house project.

My up part site manager is Darius. He came to me twice trying to remove a tiny scratch on the glass and eventually changed a window for me.

My lower part site manager is Sergio, whom come to me almost every day to make sure things are going well. For my floor heating, he explained digging a bit deeper and using water system to make us healthy, also keep the bill lower. Damp the rubbish cost money, usually builder keep it in your front garden till it’s full. But Sergio arrange them frequently with full of care.

Lots of interesting things worth to write, but I decided to leave you more rooms to explore by yourself. Everyone says dealing with builders is nightmare, if you can offering trust, showing understanding and working tightly with them, of course paying on time, things could be changed.

I appointed SLL based on their price and flexibility to meet quite a demanding programme.

The build team were fantastic! I had a hip to gable conversion and within the first week they had stripped the roof and reformed the new loft space.

I work in construction so satisfying my requirements would certainly be a test but I wouldn’t hesitate to employ SLL again

We had a hip to gable rear dormer conversion, built by South London Lofts and their team... Mangis was the project manager...it’s a brilliant addition to our house
There were some things to discuss and issues to resolve but these were dealt with very well.

We were impressed with the speed at which they worked, particularly in the first 2-4 weeks when the shell of the conversion was put in place
The build team were friendly and kept us up to day with progress and of the different stages, we had to make some decisions about positions of electrical points and radiators etc

Overall they are good-we are mostly happy with the loft apart from a few minor cosmetic issues like carpentry. The real issue was the time it took. 6 months from scaffolding going up to coming down. Initially a lady came to our house, went through all the specs, what extras would cost etc she was very professional. We then got a different project manger who basically ignored all of that and I ended up getting the trades phone numbers and dealing with them myself. When people turned up they were great but weeks went by without anything happening. I think they must have done something though because my neighbour is using the same company with a different project manager and they are cracking on with it-seems much better now.

The sales director who originally came around seemed good, however when I paid the deposit he then completely handed the job over to another building company. My project went from being 3 months to 6 months. My project manager wanted me to hand over the keys to my house to him and his team without first meeting face to face, and told me later on that if I wasn't in to let his team in they could break in. My project manager repeatedly told me I needed to pay money to him in order to obtain my building certificates, and remove scaffolding etc. They also told me that I needed to install a very expensive sprinkler system and could not proceed without doing this in my house which I did not need, and after much disagreement on the subject I did not get it and passed building control without this system.

Whilst the building work looks good, I would not recommend using SLL as the whole experience was very unpleasant and they could not provide me with information on when contractors would be at my house but just worked to any schedule they wanted. After parting with such a huge mount of money, I was treated with no respect with a lot of rudeness from the PM often shouting at me. I was told work would be done when it was done and that they had no control over dates and contractors worked when they had time - this was a very different customer service to anything else i'v received on the other 3 building jobs undertaken at my house and I would steer clear.

We had a full dormer loft built by South London Lofts in 2018/2019. The team were all great and fantastically responsive. We were on a tight deadline as we wanted the conversion completed before my wife gave birth. We got planning permission very quickly (the first in the area to get a full dormer) and the work was all done on time and to budget, we were very happy! I'd definitely recommend South London Lofts to others.

Craig and the SLL team recently completed a mansard loft extension to our home in Brixton. We're delighted with the final result and the project was completed on time and on budget. I'd recommend SLL without hesitation. Here's what we liked:
- We had quotes from a lot of loft companies before doing the work and decided to go with SLL on the basis that they offered a competitive quote, but also because Craig was very knowledgable about the Lambeth planning process and knew exactly what we would and wouldn't be allowed. He knew his stuff.
- SLL took care of the design drawings and planning application for us and discussed all the options along the way.
- When the work was due to begin we were assigned a project manager who walked us through the timetable of works and explained what we should expect. There were no surprises and we could keep track of the schedule to make sure things were on track.
- Mangis (our PM) was excellent, always available on the phone and sorted problems quickly.
- The builders from start to finish were polite, friendly and professional. They worked hard and they took care of the place, cleaning up after each day.
- The build came in on time and on budget, with all structural works done in around 7 weeks, and finishing touches were done after 9 weeks.
- We had a few issues getting building control to sign off on the project, but this was due to staff errors on their side, SLL were proactive in sorting this out for us.

All in all, SLL provided a great service and we'd use them again.

We used Craig and his team to put a double loft extension with an external roof terrace on a maisonette we have refurbished.The price was fair.Not the cheapest but certainly not the most expensive.The job was done within our timescales and the workmanship represented extremely good value for money.Very pleased and will use again for our next development without a doubt.

Our new loft looks absolutly great and we wish to thank south London Lofts so much for all the hard work they have done to achieve this from design to the finished project,

We have had a really positive experience with South London Lofts. Craig was really helpful and knowledgeable about what would and wouldn't be possible with our project and gave us some really good ideas.

The build process itself was a pretty pain free experience. Sylvestras and his team were highly skilled. It came in on budget and very much on time. I was very interested in the whole process and could see that the level of craftsmanship on site was excellent. The guys were not intrusive despite a major conversion going on above our heads.

Our conversion was completed in 2013 and only called them out over an extremely minor leak in the window frame last year. This was sorted promptly with no fuss. We remain very happy with the space we have and it still looks as good as new.

I have recommended SLL to many friends and would use them again.

After seeing quite a few builders we chose South London Lofts. They were clear about the process, answered all our questions and they offered a good price. What sealed it for us was seeing a few of the jobs they had already done. One was done a good while back, which we wanted to see so we could see how the quality of the work stood up over time, and the other had just been finished a few days earlier and is a couple of streets from us. The people there told us how they had had very positive experiences of their build, and we could see ourselves the quality of everything.
We have a mid-terrace 1930’s house now with a dormer loft conversion that gives us a very large bedroom, off which is a good sized shower room and toilet. We also made sure we had decent sized under eaves storage area for all the stuff like camping gear and Christmas stuff etc. It has a lovely wide and light stair up to it that just looks like a continuation of the original stair to the first floor, it matches it perfectly. 3 velux windows and French windows/doors at the back. There is a very high quality of finish all round and we are very happy with it all.

I work from home, so I got to see a lot of the work as it progressed. The builders were always polite and considerate over things like minimising the dust that might come down into the house, which only happened once the stair hole was made. When they made the hole they put down protection for the stair below and hung drapes and neatly contained the mess. After that, as there was some people traffic up through the house to the loft they put down protective plastic on the carpets up to the loft which when it was taken up revealed the carpets in the same condition they were in before the work began.

We asked, during the build, for some extra work to be done – for instance I could see, when I went up and looked out the Velux windows, that the parapet of the party wall, above the level of the tiled roof, between ourselves and our neighbour, was in a bad state. The bricks looked like very bad tooth decay and not going to last, so I had that fixed and I had the front bays very tired roof felt redone. Both were done again to very high standard, the wall looks great, and the price was very fair. Any extra things we wanted were always very reasonably priced and it was always given very straight-forwardly, which I liked. This extended to things like a number of extra sockets, aerial sockets and deciding to have downlights in the 1st floor landing and bathroom below. The electricians were great both they and the plumber/bathroom fitters took the time to check and double check we were getting what we wanted, exactly where we wanted it. The plumbers handled the fittings we’d bought with the utmost care, careful not to scratch or mark anything - they were very sweet guys.
We had an occasion when it looked like, because of the way the roof was constructed in one place, we might not be able to have the size of window in the stairwell we wanted, and that it might not be lined up how we wished. The lead first-fix carpenter was great, he said to leave it with him and then he came the next day with a solution and he was able to position it perfectly central between the stair well walls. Other things they took in their stride included how we wanted the Velux windows fitted, with a narrow engineered wooden bar that Velux provide, so windows could be close together and you maximise head height. The plasterer deserves a mention too, as he made these beautiful curves in the bedroom ceiling where the flat ceiling curves down to the sloping one. And he did this lovely curve of plaster work under the new stair, that you pass under when you go down to the ground floor. The roofers too did a great job, with real attention to detail with the flashings, etc.

We are very happy to recommend them.

South London Lofts carried out our loft conversion back in 2012. Having received a number of quotes, I was immediately impressed by their can do attitude. Where other companies made excuses or bumped up their costs, they were nothing but positive, and despite me making numerous amendments to the plans, this was not an issue. The build started on time, was finished in 6 weeks as promised (despite the wettest June for decades), and we were living in our new loft within 8 weeks. Six years later it still looks as good as new and we couldn't be happier. The carpenters even built our built in wardrobes which everyone comments on. Personally my experience was nothing but positive, and if we needed extras done, then they were done without fuss. If anything wasn't carried out to my satisfaction, or we had minor snagging issues, then they were rectified without any problems. I find it interesting to note that the negative reviews posted on this website don't actually seem to contain any details about their South London Lofts experience. No company will please everyone all of the time, but this type of review just makes me suspicious about how valid they are. All I can do is talk about my personal experience which was everything you could hope for from any Building company
