Customer Service Made My Decision Easy
I contacted Thousand Trails to get some information about staying in one of their rental RVs/campers. I even gave them the specific campground we were interested in to make things easier, along with asking for general annual membership pricing since we're considering purchasing an RV in the near future.
Unfortunately, I came away more confused than when I called.
I actually spoke with two different representatives, and neither seemed familiar with their own properties, rental options, or pricing. In fact, I found myself explaining one of their campgrounds and pointing out that they offered cabins and RV rentals because the representative didn't even realize they existed.
I was eventually transferred to annual membership sales. The representative answered the phone with a simple, "Hello." After an awkward pause, he finally said, "Thousand Trails... can I help you?" It wasn't exactly the professional first impression I'd expect when calling about a membership that costs thousands of dollars.
After spending another 10 minutes on the phone just trying to get basic pricing information for an RV rental and, at that point, I honestly would have taken any ballpark number, I was placed on hold while he looked into it. After waiting far longer than I think any potential customer should, I eventually hung up.
Ironically, while I was on hold, I started researching online and found this site full of customer reviews. After reading many of the experiences shared here and considering the service I received myself, I felt compelled to add my own.
If getting simple information before becoming a customer is this difficult, I can't imagine what it would be like after joining.
One thing I also don't understand is the value of the membership itself. If members are paying annual dues, shouldn't they receive some level of booking priority over non-members? While researching, I was able to go online as a non-member and see availability for the exact accommodations I had been asking about, yet I was told there was no availability for members.
If that's accurate, it raises an obvious question: what exactly is the benefit of paying for the membership? Whether you're paying annually or monthly, Thousand Trails is still receiving guaranteed membership revenue. In return, I'd expect members to receive priority access to reservations, not to find themselves with fewer options than someone who hasn't paid for a membership at all. If members are funding the program, it seems reasonable that they should receive the greatest access and value. Based on what I experienced, that's not the impression I was left with, and it isn't a membership model I would choose to invest in.
To those who are struggling with the same frustrations I've been reading about, I genuinely wish you the best and hope you're able to find a resolution. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your experiences, they were incredibly helpful in making my decision.
We have a basic thousand trails…
We have a basic thousand trails membership. We can rarely book a spot and when we do we have to drive arround and find a spot. Just for fun we called not telling them we were members and they let us pick any spot that was open. Yes we were better off not being a member. We just tried to book a thousand trail spot in lotus at the ponderosa resort. No spot available. We called back to book as non members and hah! They had a spot at $91 a night. Why get a membership when they treat you as second class. Never buy again. The camground in not a $50 a night place much less twice that. That is why its a 1.8 rating on reviews. Need to take care of those with a membership first.
TT Journey membership issues
I have a Journey membership, but cannot place any reservations online due to a notice that constantly appears to call Thousand Trails to complete reservations. I call and get a message that says no one is available to assist with reservations, book online. If I call the specific RV park, they cannot assist wuth reservations unless I want to pay out if pocket since RV parks cannot access the membership particulars. Why am I paying for a membership?
Thousand trails encore park sunshine…
Thousand trails encore park sunshine key in florida is a nightmare.
There are no grocery stores. There's no activities they show you a beach but it's a joke
And they have put too many people, too close together.
Thousand trails parks and the everglades miami is like walking into the nineteen hundreds with hillbilly, standing on the rails of their pickup trucks screaming and yelling drunk all night. This place was a hell hole.
We spent four thousand dollars on a membership and not one place.Except two parks in the keys have had a functioning pool or clubhouse.
There has been no pool or clubhouse or any facilities in all the other thousand trails.
Let's start with a thousand trails at medina lake.
First, there's no lake.Take that off your advertisement. It's a bold face lie, which is called fraud
Second, no pool, no facilities because they didn't have a manager to even run.The facility weeds were over five feet tall. The dog park was the same had stickers everywhere. This is to be said for all dog parks by thousand trails, except at sunshine key in florida.
We have purchased new locks to put on the door of our motor home.Because we have been in danger in an unsafe conditions.
We are going to keep leaving.Reviews and contacting the military and everybody. We can since my husband's a disabled veteran to try to let everyone know not to spend their money and they scam you and they won't give you your money back, even though they promise all these facilities.
What they don't realize, and maybe others don't know.I'm gonna try to cancel through my credit card company.I have photographs and everything
Please do not buy a thousand trails membership.
My husband's family owned a membership for years. And the parks used to be so nice, we traveled everywhere with them. This was disgusting every single night.
Fort Myers Encore resort park had no clue. They had guests that weren't even registered. That guest almost ran me over driving drunk in the park. I went to report it and they said no one was staying there, but guess what? They were, they had been there for a long time. No gate guard either. This place is unsafe virus beware!!!!!!!
HORRIBLE PLACE
Absolutely disgusting and one of the worst rental experiences my family has ever had. We booked this cabin for an entire week and were so disappointed that we packed up and left after only two days.
The cabin was filthy from the moment we walked in. The floors looked like they hadn't been mopped in months, and the overall cleanliness was completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, there were ticks all over the property, making it impossible to relax or feel comfortable letting our family enjoy the outdoors.
The amenities were severely outdated, worn down, and clearly neglected for years. Nothing about this place matched the expectations set by the listing. The photos online are extremely misleading and make the property look far better than it actually is. What we arrived to was nothing close to what was advertised.
We spent our hard-earned money expecting a clean, well-maintained cabin for a family vacation and instead walked into a dirty, poorly maintained property that felt neglected in every way. We were so uncomfortable with the conditions that we chose to lose money and leave early rather than continue staying there.
Save yourself the disappointment and book elsewhere. This property needs a serious deep cleaning, major updates, and a much more honest listing.
Stay Away From Thousand Trails
As soon as signed up for a membership, it became nearly impossible to get anyone at Thousand Trails to answer the phone. And it became nearly impossible to reserve a site at one of their member campgrounds.
Thousand Trails blames it on the campgrounds and the campgrounds blame it on Thousand Trails.
Bottom line, your money will be gone and you will have nothing to show for it.
Company is absolutely horrible
Company is absolutely horrible. Some of the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. 20 minute wait on chat and they can't do much and tell you to call. Then over an hour wait on call and they never even called.
Resevation system is a joke. If you are a member and try to reserve, good luck. Most sites are sold out. Then log out and try and you'll see they have spots. They have it set so only a few members can gets spots, the rest they hold for people paying. So what's the point of paying for a Thousand Trails membership if you can't use it where you want.
Then you have the Trails Collection add on for another $450 and they don't prorate it for the year. So if you buy in June, you only get 6 months. And you can't pay online, you have to request it and wait days for someone to call you so you can pay over the phone.
Truth is Thousand Trails sucks. They need to sell the whole thing and let another group take it over and run it. This is not worth the month. Just save your money and make your own reservations. You'll get the spots you want and won't get frustrated with all the run around.
Cannot Book a Site and Customer Service Refuses Calls
I honestly cannot believe how frustrating it is to try to use Thousand Trails.
Every time we try to book a campsite, the system throws errors. It does not matter what park, what date, or how many times we try. The booking system simply does not work reliably. You spend time searching for locations, pick your dates, go through the process, and then it fails. Over and over again.
So naturally you try to call customer service.
That is where things get even worse.
Instead of speaking to someone who can actually help, the phone system just says they are too busy to take the call and then it hangs up on you. No option to wait. No callback. No support. Just disconnected.
When you pay for a membership service that is supposed to make camping easier, the last thing you expect is a system that blocks you from making reservations and a support line that refuses to answer calls.
Right now the experience feels like paying for access to something that is nearly impossible to use.
If Thousand Trails wants to keep members happy, they need to fix two things immediately.
First, make the reservation system actually work without constant errors.
Second, provide real customer support instead of a phone line that just hangs up on paying members.
Until those issues are fixed, the experience is extremely disappointing.
To Eva and Dave #12. Awesome time with my little ones.
Hi. I am a family of 7 (all 5 little ones) in California in the central valley and we are just 1st timers looking for a place to rv for my sons 9th birthday and so we took him out to Thousand trails at Lake is the springs. we do not have any membership or anything like that except a reservation for 2 nights at lake of the springs in Feb 2025. For some reason, we couldn't check into the night of the campground on the day before of our reservation due to some website issues and confusion. We wanted to go early as possible so we can choose the best and suitable campsite for our family before the weekend where it will get busy and best spots will be taken. with this being said, we did initially scouted before we drove out there few days before the reservations (this was before the new regulations took effect). However we took a gamble and drove there with our new RV on the day before our reservation. when we got there, it was afterhours. however, luckily there was a kind lady by the name of Eva, who works there and was gonna leave for the night, office was closed already. we drove about 1 hour to get to this location and wouldn't been a bummer to drive back home with the RV and the whole family. we asked the nice lady there to see if we can check into our camp place without checking into the system. Eva was very understanding and kind to us; be mindful that by this time it was already dark. she allowed us to go get checked into our campsite and get settled in and we can come back up to the office in the AM to get checked in and just pay for the prior night. me and my family was very pleased and grateful to her. so the next morning, I went back up to the office and made my payment for the night before check in day. Then also met with a gentleman named Dave#12 and it was such a good greeting and communication with this man as I was getting checked in and so I wanted to acknowledge this man as well. So to the employees by the name of Eva and Dave #12. Thank you to the two of you. My sons 1st birthday trip to this location was awesome and perfect. Thank you. I Hope that management will recognize your guy's efforts and service.
I apologize that it took me 1 year to make this review but I want to recognize her for her kind service.
Been trying to cancel membership for a…
Been trying to cancel membership for a while now. No one gives the same info and no one will cancel the membership. Just keep getting run around and the membership auto renews.
Look at the spots and try to get ahold of aperson before you make your choice
I had thousand trails because I live in my RV year round. There was a park I wanted for a long term stay aka more than 2 weeks!! and was told in order to even make a reservation I needed a pass. I get the membership and the reservation terms for long term stays is officially booked out for the next year!!!!!!!!!! So, I try to cancel my pass as that was the only reason I wanted it, with a two your commitment and understanding I had only had it for two weeks time and explained the situation and they still had to get their money and wouldn't cancel. Nor could the front desk person of the park I wanted to stay at could of just said " even if you get it were booked" which would of been the honest and nice thing to do as I explained to her that place would be the reason I got it to begin with. Then its finally actually been more than two years a very kind costumer service girl cancels it for me. They then took 3 weeks to respond to an email, I had sent a response back. Its already been handled and then another person sends a snide email about how it will end and at this date because of the contract and I don't owe any more money. To speak to someone is hard, and there was literally only maybe two people I did speak to that had actual costumer service and were kind. I would really look around as I said its hard to get ahold of any human and once you sign up even if its a week after and you call they will just continue to take your money. I paid 62.56 every month for two years never stayed at one site and when I had called to stay in the Vegas location the one time, in all the time I had it and considered using it. They never returned my phone call and when I called back again and spoke to someone again rude. Asking questions because I had never used the pass and never did. It was a big waste of money and highly recommend looking into other site places such as KOA
Worst decision we ever made
Worst decision we ever made. try to schedule campgrounds and they are all full, except for some public sites which we would have to pay for. they sell you a bill of goods then don't follow thru. they are as useless as tits on a bull.
Slow and unacceptable customer service
We bought a membership, and paid 1,688 dollars upfront. My husband passed away 10 days later. I asked for cancellation and refund. They continued to bill me 280 per month. 23 months after my request for cancellation and refund I was told they would cancel but no refunds.
Annual Sites and Locations
My problem with Thousand Trails is the annual sites and the locations of where the sites are. They only have annual sites for RV's in certain regions of the country and not for the owners of the RV's during the wintertime which to me doesn't make any sense. Do people go camping in the winter? Of course! There are many private campgrounds that have year-round camping in the northern U.S and they're full during the winter but it's hard to get into them because they're full. So why not open it up for the winter in these regions? Very simple, if it's 5000 or 6000 dollars for the RV and not the owners per year in these northern regions, just make it 12,000 including the owners! Very simple, there are people who would pay for it, I am one of them.
STAY AWAY from Thousand Trails
My experience with Thousand Trails has been extremely disappointing. I purchased a membership believing I would have access to their advertised campgrounds. After joining, I found that there are no available sites anywhere I want to travel. Their website is outdated, some of the parks they advertise are not even open, and the information they provide is misleading.
When I contacted customer service, I was told I needed to call every time I wanted to make a reservation. Each call resulted in excuses and options that had nothing to do with the locations I actually wanted. At one point, a representative shrugged it off with “oh well,” which told me everything I needed to know about how little they care.
They refuse to refund my money even though the membership is completely unusable. This feels deceptive and unethical. They encouraged me to expand my membership, yet even with that upgrade I could not book anything.
I would strongly warn others to stay away from Thousand Trails. In my experience, they do not deliver what they promise, and they do not take responsibility when their product does not work.

I have been a member for over 3 years
I have been a member for over 3 years, I need to go to S CA for work. The last 2 years I have been unable to reserve a spot as they were "full". This is Wilderness Lakes in Menifee, CA. I always call but there are no spaces. I was told if I wanted to pay full price (as if I wasn't a member), there were plenty of open sites. This park is a mess with weeds, broken water, sewer and electrical, if you get a reservation you have to test all those before you get into a spot. A lot of sites are empty and if you can get in you can usually extend your stay (to the extent of your membership parameters). 3 years ago there wasn't enough power to run my a/c, when I asked about it, I was told they needed to upgrade the electrical system (still hasn't been done)? Customer service was rude and had no desire to hear my complaints or try to help me. I now home base in Texas, stay tuned for a report on how those TT parks are.
Surprised Long Tern Members…
We’re Thousand Trails member nationwide in 1980s. Resorts were clean many new, and well maintained. There were limited sites in country at time so couldn’t use when we left. But I Was shocked how unkept it is now. Old broken shower and bathrooms. Idyllwild in CA, has the same broken now, old furniture from the 1980s. Staff at many aren’t very nice. Good luck reaching personnel on phone. at resorts. On holidays they have NO support. I’ll keep complaining until they improve. But TTs membership includes many locations with nationwide. They were nice places in Tennessee and Texas.
