Food excellent

Food excellent, entertainment amazing. But the staff… Surly, inhospitable, unfriendly, so obviously counting the days til they get off. What a shame. None seemed happy. And that was obvious. What a shame.

Warner hotels are not value for money…

Warner hotels are not value for money anymore.
Unfortunately I have cancelled my booking at Norton Grange.
Bembridge accomodation is acceptable but the food is
unappealing veg and roast potatoes and all meat was very tough.
Warners you need to spend money on your hotels and your food variety. Also customers service is no more you have to get everything yourself apart from starter and pudding. Breakfast help yourself including drinks from machines. Cleaning was cut down too. This is definitely going down quicker than the TITANIC. I would advise you to go on a cruise for better value not warners. Customer guest services head office phoned me nothing but excuses to hand. Like if you read the small print it says subject to availability of facilities. Also I was told all warners are going self service as it's a top management decision and all the services they have changed will not be reinstated. I asked would you be happy all I got was I can't comment on that and I am not going too. I told here I will not book again. Her reply was very sorry to hear that. SO BE WARNED spend your money elsewhere if you want value, quality and customer service for your hard earned money.

Complaints are ignored and you are lied to

Our room in Heythrop Park was dirty and the sliding door to the bathroom was off the runners. I rang reception who told me there was no maintenance available, so as I was concerned it may fall off completely and injure one of us, I fixed it myself. Despite having booked times for dining in their buffet style restaurant, we were still made to queue for 40 minutes for a table, despite at least 8 tables being empty waiting to be cleared away and re laid. When we finally got a table the plates were dripping wet (3 napkins needed to dry them) the food was mediocre and barely warm. I asked for the duty manager, and she told me she was actually the food and beverage manager, and offered to refund the poor dinner and breakfast plus a bit extra as an apology, which I accepted. However, this refund never arrived (hence the poor review which I would not have written had they kept their word). I also found out the price on the menu for Irish coffees was less than they actually charged, so this is probably the case for all drinks. I have had better experiences at Premier Inn

Disappointing

I agree that Thorsby Hall is little more than a building site right now - far worse than we had been warned.
We had a two night break to celebrate our golden wedding in November. As rooms are no longer serviced on the first full day ours was not serviced at all.
The dinner menu in the Blue Room offers little choice and is only changed seasonally.
There is a policy that toast is not available at breakfast in the Blue Room, yet is provided in abundance in the breakfast buffet in the Market Kitchen!
We visited Thorsby Hall when it first opened in 2000. We couldn’t believe how the standards have deteriorated. We won’t be returning.

Grotty room and terrible customer service

I have been a customer for over 11 years and have never experienced the shabby and dirty accommodation that we was allocated on this visit to Gunton Hall. The shower tray was ingrained with dirt and sticky. An upholstered chair had 3 buttons where the tops had come off leaving sharp metal. I went to see the duty manager at 3.20pm but he did not start until 5pm. Reception said they would send a housekeeping manager but a team leader arrived with cleaning materials. This was not going to fix the problem. She went to see if another room was available but unfortunately they were full. At my suggestion she fetched rubber shower mats and cut off the buttons. The room was also very grubby and dusty. I took photos of shower tray, chair and shabby window/wall. I saw duty manager at about 5.15 who hardly glanced at the photos. He asked me to email these to reception so they could be sent to property management to see if they could get an investment to upgrade the rooms. I also complained about having to now pay for activities which used to be included. I understand why but it is an extra cost. Also complained about buffet only service. 11 years ago it was table service. He said people prefer it. No offer of any compensation not even a bottle of wine, which we used to get left in the room on arrival. The next morning I also dicovered that you now fetch your own tea/coffee from a drinks dispenser. This is no longer a restaurant but a self service cafe. Food OK but not great. Glass of wine £9.95. Everything has gone downhill drastically. Decided to make best of it. On the Saturday/Sunday I was violently sick and I am sure it was food poisoning but how do you prove it. I felt so ill I left on Sunday lunchtime instead of Monday morning suggesting to the receptionist that the room was deep cleaned. I filled in an online complaints form (the only way you can complain) on Tuesday 11th November. I had a telephone call on Monday 1st December offering me a £70 voucher. I said I would not be likely to be going to Warners again. Upped the offer to £100 vouchers. I refused. Said I wanted £100 cash refund. The 3 nights had cost over £600. Would have to be referred to a manager. I received a phone call on 4th December with £50 cash refund. I still asked for £100 but £50 maximum refund as per their policy. I told her not happy and would take it further. It made no difference and will only be £50 and THEY will close the complaint. There is no customer service with this company. As you can probably guess I am not happy with this. Up until now I had not put a review on but now feel that everyone needs to know just how Warners deal with complaints. I will definitely not return to any Warner Hotel.

Warner Hotels have gone downhill

Warner Hotels have gone downhill over the last few years. It is all about saving costs, there is no room servicing the day after you arrive, yet even the budget hotel chains will service your room every day if you want it! They aren't allowing the cleaners enough time to clean rooms, so our room at Littlecote House was pretty grubby and in need of refurbishment. In fact the whole hotel was looking rundown with badly worn carpets and marked / dirty paintwork. Food is the same menu it has been for the last 3-4 years and if you go to one of the more prestigious hotels like Thoresby that has a choice of restaurants, they have now introduced a surcharge for this. Customer service is appalling, no point complaining about anything as they won't do anything about it. It is telling that they don't reply to online reviews, basically they don't give a damn. We won't be staying again as they would sooner lose a customer who has spent £6k with them in 18 months, than refund me (£40) for the reserved seating I had to purchase to guarantee we could see the evening entertainment we had paid for as part of the break. Head office claim that entertainment is complimentary and therefore seating is on a first come first served basis, what utter rubbish.

Would not go back!

It was not exactly great sadly. Our room was lovely but not what I would call perfectly clean! Three out of four drawers in the chest of drawers would not open and 2 handles broken, bedside tables similar and glass top was sticky and filthy. When plumping up the pillows, behind the bed was full of fluff and did not want to venture further! Delightful building and beautiful grounds. Beware of hidden extras including evening meal in the Bistro! Slice of cake £5 etc. Sadly will not be going back to Studley! Potter's is much better value for same money!

Cost cutting to the bone at Alvaston Hall, Nantwich. I blame Blackstone owners

Lovely staff, but management cuts and poor standards really let it down.

We stayed at Warner’s Alvaston Hall Hotel for two nights (£440 for two people with breakfast and dinner). The hotel was warm, the entertainment generally good, and the staff genuinely friendly and hardworking — they’re the best part of the place.

But for the price, standards were disappointing. Our room wasn’t serviced on the second day — no towels, bins not emptied, no cleaning. I was told it’s been stopped “due to the cost-of-living crisis” and that towels could be collected from reception. I later saw a leaflet mentioning it, but that’s not proper notice — at £200+ a night, I absolutely expect my room to be serviced daily.

There was mould on the bathroom ceiling, dust behind the TV, and a stained toilet seat — clear signs of poor deep cleaning. The spa wasn’t well maintained either. Breakfast was very basic and limited, while dinner was good, which made the contrast even more obvious. Tea and coffee now come with awful wooden stirers and cheap cups etc. Prices for drinks and food are extortionate.

I don’t blame the cleaning staff — they clearly care but aren’t being given enough hours or time to do their jobs properly. It’s management decisions that have caused this.

It’s also worth noting that Warner is now owned by Blackstone, one of the richest private-equity firms in the world — the same group that once owned Butlin’s and Haven. Since that takeover, guests across all these brands have noticed the same pattern: higher prices, fewer staff, and lower standards. It’s hard to believe a company managing billions in assets needs to save money by cutting cleaners’ hours or skipping daily room service.

Also, Warner never replies to reviews, which says a lot about how little guest feedback seems to matter.

For such high prices, this was a real disappointment. Warner needs to rethink its priorities — and start valuing both guests and staff.

We've been here 4 times but won't be back after this time.

See my photos attached of the mould etc...

A poor experience

On arriving at Heythrop Park, entered the room and greeted with heavy stains on carpet and room not cleaned/replenished properly. On reporting issues to reception, suggested the room be deep cleaned the following day. On return that night the room hadn't been deep cleaned OR even serviced AGAIN, had to wait 30 minutes, got to bed at 10.30pm
On the last two occasion we have stayed here we have never booked a time to sit down for breakfast a staff member have always found us a table, however on this occasion the booking clerk looked at me with an attitude as if i was a naughty school boy (not acceptable).
Most of the activities used to be included in the price 'not any more' this make these resorts far less attractive and value for money(In my view) good luck.

Grossly misleading advertising

Hello
I am deeply shocked and disgusted at your 25% off offers.

I am looking at lakeside 19th Jan 2026, it says 25% off but only gives £10 off per person, however as I am now told the 25% is only off the accommodation NOT THE MEALS, this is gross misleading advertising. This means that the accommodation accounts for only £40 of the £179 cost , i e. 25% of £40 is £10, so meals account for £139, how do you calculate the meal value, as breaks include meals and can't be booked separately. Your advert clearly states 25% off winter breaks NOT STATING THAT IT DOESN'T INCLUDE MEALS, the 'excludes food' in your T&C could easily be construed as Extra food not the included meals as they are included as part of breaks

Abysmal choice of food and badly vooked

They have reduced the food choice and it is now very limited.
There are basically 2 choices. Asian or continental food, or British carvery type. Theye is only ONE meal from the kitchen which is fish. The the exact same dish was served every night of our stay.
I will say that the Asian food I tried was badly cooked. I would never have served the stodge of rice
The desserts I tried were what I would call synthetic.
There us no real choice for people with dietary issues.
I understand that legislation makes things restricted, but after 20 years of enjoying Warner holidays we will not be going after we have taken the ones booked.

Alvaston Hall is the 6th Warner Leisure…

Alvaston Hall is the 6th Warner Leisure Hotel we've stayed at in less than 12 months but, unfortunately, it's the one we're the least happy with. We're here for one week (2 X back-back stays) & therefore feel we've gained enough insight to make some fair & reasonable comments.
The food is faultless: lovely meals & sufficient choice. We had most of our breakfasts in the Market Kitchen & all of our evening dinners in The Cheshire Barn. Also, a couple of light lunches in The Fountains Bar. However, we found the restaurant staff a very mixed bag of waiters & waitresses. Some of them appeared to have an attitude problem: although we'd booked to vary our breakfast venues we asked to overide this & take all of our breakfasts in The Market Kitchen, since one waitress at breakfast in The Cheshire Barn, early in our stay, had such a miserable & difficult manner that it put us off eating there in the mornings again. Sadly, she popped up again at dinner in The Cheshire Barn, later in our stay when, due to me being indisposed,my husband ate his evening meal in there alone. He asked for a mixture of ice cream flavours for dessert (we'd come onto Alvaston from Bodelwyddan Castle where they served five scoops of ice cream per person for those who required it). The difficult Alvaston waitress insisted he could only have two scoops & it was not only what she said but the way she said it that upset my usually-easygoing husband. Next evening I queried this with her team leader who responded that the chefs allowed two-three scoops per person.
On another occasion during dinner, I requested a dessert for which a supplement was payable. I showed this same waitress that 'Platinum' appeared on the cover of our room card, entitling us to 15% off purchases in the hotel, but , as we discovered, when we received our room statement next morning, the 15% hadn't been deducted. There was nothing we could do about this, because, as we found during our week's stay at Alvaston Hall, staff here rarely offer customers receipts for their transactions. Most of the time we did make a point of asking for our receipts, including on our last evening when another waitress failed to deduct the Platinum discount off our drinks bill.
Although my husband is a sports fan, even he disliked the television being on in The Cheshire Barn with football etc. showing during dinner. The television being on & the choice of pop music playing in this restaurant seemed to us to be more geared to what the predominantly-young staff would like rather than what the guests of mostly-mature years might prefer.
On the more positive side, on the evening when a waitress named Emily was serving in The Cheshire Barn, we enjoyed noticeably-improved service.
Regarding activities,I was sorry to have to miss the nature walk due to being unwell, as I heard it was excellent. I did however, join a morning mile-long 'gentle-stroll' which wasn't, in my opinion, gentle. The young female staff member leading it didn't bother to count the number of those of us participating in it & there was no back-marker, for those of us who found the pace a little challenging. Given that we were all elderly , some of us using walking sticks, another person with a rollator, I think such safety precautions should have been essential.
My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed the tea-tasting-experience, which was very well presented with plenty of information new to us about tea, from a female staff member who we later saw waiting on in The Fountains Bar. She was very good.
For our money, Alvaston Hall is the Warner's branch with the least character in its architecture. Each of t he other branches we have visited - Holme Lacy House, Cricket St. Thomas, Littlecote House , Studley Castle & Bodelwyddan Castle have fascinating architecture and equally-fascinating gardens & grounds with beautiful views, for instance of the Clwyd Mountains from Bodelwyddan.
The talk on the history and hotch-potch design of Alvaston by Lindsey, however, was excellent - both in its presentation & for its content. Lindsey is an excellent speaker, just right for Warner's, with plenty of touches of humour during her account.
Since we tend to retire early, we didn't attend the evening entertainment, apart from one evening in The Fountains Bar, when a young man named Callum sang & played guitar. To be frank, we felt he 'murdered' some of the lovely songs he chose to cover, such as 'Valerie' & Elvis numbers, &, like most of the audience that evening, we left early.
Our room maid was great, very hardworking with a very pleasant manner.

Had a good time at Sinah Warren, but the food needs a review

We were a party of four who stayed at Sinah Warren for the week end. We had a great time overall, but have one complaint, the food. There was no opportunity to order freshly cooked food at breakfast, or main meal a dinner. The worst thing was that two of our party are vegetarian and the one and only option for them each night was dire. Come on Sinah Warren surely you could come up with something such as vegi lasagne quiche etc !! On the positive side, I'm gluten free and was well catered for.

Rooms/food/entertainment excellent BUT

Firstly the food, accommodation and entertainment at Sinah Warren was excellent. We found the service by the few members of staff friendly and good. Unfortunately the little extras, (which can make a holiday) like table service now virtually all (buffet style), even the breakfast hot drinks and toast to ones table gone makes it extremely difficult for the disabled and elderly. No automatic luggage handling another downside. If the hotel is to cater for people more advanced in age and less able, it is sadly lacking. But perhaps the idea is to encourage younger people.

Warners, never again

Just returned from a four day stay at Nidd Hall. Very disappointed and certainly not value for money. Food content and variety awful. An Eggs Benedict was a muffin with a slice of ham curling at the sides (under lights on counter) which you topped with a hard boiled poached egg (also under lights). No longer served from the kitchen. Then there was a pre-cooked thick quarter of an omelette which, with a good sling, would probably have brought an albatross down, it was that rubbery. This epitomised the standard. Plus there was no longer a continental choice if you didn't want their cooked breakfast. The rooms were not cleaned. Only replaced tea and coffee and possibly a towel. TV was tiny (about 19" or possibly 22" you couldn't read the captions). No fridge in the room so if you bought a bottle of wine for dinner but wanted to keep it for the next night you couldn't keep it cold. Another useless cut. And so it went on, a huge amount of cuts have been made and its no longer either an enjoyable or good value experience.

Tried to pay the balance for a holiday…

Tried to pay the balance for a holiday in November. Tried payment engine 3 times.Phoned payment line twice and on hold for 15 minutes despite waiting times said to be 1 minute and second one 10 minutes. Tried today; waiting time 10 minutes, gave up after 15. Tried again, waiting time 10 minutes and took option to get call back. Still waiting after 35 minutes.
In the meantime, phoned Sinah Warren and a very helpful lady answered quickly and took the payment.
