It's fine

There are some annoying inanities in the website, for instance order by availability and what comes to the top?...yes the offerings with ZERO availability (and other similar niggles)

More Investment Grade options please!

One of the only ways to invest in bonds with small levels of capital, especially within an ISA, I love it.

But I would like to see a wider range of investment-grade bonds. There are a few little niggles on the UI side - once a bond is held within the portfolio, it is hard to see the bond's price history and investment rstings. Before buying the bond, it is hard to see documentation on any impending changes to the bond e.g. prior or outstanding modifications to coupon or maturity. Also, the dirty price and clean price are not explicit prior to purchase. It is down to the investor to research their investments, but I wonder if it might be possible to increase transparency?

I've been a customer for a few years…

I've been a customer for a few years and I'm generally very happy with the service. If you buy your own bonds directly, just be aware that sometimes liquidity on the platform is limited so it's not always possible to sell when you want. Generally I just want to buy and hold for the long term and that works well.

Simple way to invest in wide array of corporate bonds

I've been with WiseAlpha for a several years now and my investment has generated good returns with little bad debt. The platform makes it easy to create a diversified bond portfolio, with a minimum investment of £100 per company. It allows investment in bonds that would otherwise by unavailable to retail investors.

One criticism I have is that information on the website can be somewhat lacking or vague, particularly the FAQ when it comes to questions on taxation. It is also not always clear when a bond can repay early (unless you read the prospectus in detail) and I've often had a bond unexpectedly repay early. For this reason I try to buy bonds below par!

They also made a mistake on the tax statement for my Euro account (showing an interest payment as a capital gain). You can however download detailed statements in CSV format that seem to tally up. Although in this case the same error was present in the CSV file.

As well as bonds repaying early you can also be left with a bond that may never repay if the debt is restructured to avoid a default. As with any investment diversification is key and you have the option to invest in safer companies for a lower return.

Good but little disappointing.

Good things are the provision of a unique facility which provides access to commercial bonds for retail investors with limited funds, good quality information & good execution. Low fee structure is also a plus.
Bad thing is the frequent lack of liquidity and failure to warn the public and highlight this aspect together with their warnings about risk. Yes, we know commercial bonds can be risky, and yes, we can "lose all capital" etc, as enough about this is shouted from the rooftops. As for the likely lack of liquidity, when you want to sell (usually when a specific market has turned bearish), nope, not so loudly. After all, that could be seriously offputting, couldn't it ?
