Unprofessional
I accidentally posted 2 separate reviews for this company. I'm merging them into one, and I'm adding the updated context.
I have several issues with this service provider. For one, all communication is in Italian, even though they service international customers. It doesn't matter if I ask them something in English, they always respond in Italian. The communication is also unclear, and it takes a long time for them to respond to inquiries. Parts of the site also seem unresponsive. At times it's not clear where or how to respond or reach them. That could in part be due to the long waiting times as well. All-in-all thus far I regret choosing this service.
The story keepa getting more and more ridiculous. I've finally managed to get a QES (qualified electronic signature) to sign the document they sent me. This was an incredible pain, as the QES system is poorly supported. I finally managed to get one through two services called DocuSeal and itsme. Now they're asking me (in Italian again) to sign it using something called an Aruba key or something. I have absolutely no idea what this is. I don't have a signing certificate yet. That's what I've been trying to get from them for the last two months. The documentation they sent me is of course also in Italian, it's unclear, I don't see how it relates to their previous queries, and as I said I have no idea how to continue aside from sending another mail and service request that will probably take a week to get a response to. And then I'll get another mail in Italian that I'll have to translate to English. Ftr, their site is in English, they're supposed to service international customers, and ALL of my correspondence with them has been in English, but I almost always (a few rare exceptions aside) get a response in Italian. I'm about to just give up and see if I can just get my money back and order a certificate elsewhere. This is one of the most unprofessional companies I've ever done business with.
**EDIT:** I have now received my certificate, and the service seems to work just fine once the certificate is issued. I really hope the company takes these issues seriously. The onboarding process was very cumbersome and unclear. All correspondence being in Italian (despite me setting the language to English in the backoffice explicitly) made things worse. I'd advice them to
1. Fix the language issues. If someone chooses English as their language, make sure all automated e-mails are in English, and all correspondence is in English. If you advertise yourself as an international company this is expected of you.
2. Clarify and streamline the onboarding process. Make sure people understand exactly what is expected from them. The QES requirement came out of the blue for me, and I'd never worked with these before. Getting it was a huge pain, and the documentation I received from support on this was confusing, incomplete, and at times flat-out wrong. There's another step in the process where you receive an initial temporary password by e-mail that you have to change. One VERY important detail is that if you did not receive the e-mail you'll have to notify them within 5 days, or you'll have to order an entirely new certificate (see guide dot actalis dot com slash code-signing slash activating). These kinds of things need to be communicated VERY clearly up front. It would be ridiculous to lose ~200 euros over not receiving an e-mail you were not even aware of.
3. Clarify your documentation. I got an e-mail about an Aruba key or something, which, till this day I have no idea what it is. I was also told I could find information about the QES on your site, which I could not find. I got links to Italian documentation. I even got at least one broken link to supposed documentation. None of these things are acceptable for a professional certificate authority.
Like I said, all-in-all I got my certificate, which seems to work just fine. I hope they will resolve these issues. It's very disappointing to see that the process for getting a certificate from the only European certificate authority is this cumbersome. Until they fix the issues I mentioned above I cannot recommend this service to others with a straight face. Since the cert works I've increased my score from 1 star to 2 stars, but that's as high as I can reasonably go at this point.
