I would advise anyone thinking about…

I would advise anyone thinking about Aspiration to think elsewhere. I'm legitimately trying to save someone from making this mistake! Too much to type here concerning my negative experiences with this institution. You would have to be dumb knowing what I know and then deciding to bank with aspiration. Aspiration is at the bottom of the poll!

The agents are nice and this isn’t…

The agents are nice and this isn’t their fault. I used to love this bank. I have been with them for 10 years. Within the last year, even worse in the last six months, the customer service has been unbelievable. I have seen Reddit reviews smashing Aspiration within the last three years. It’s so sad to see a bank with a great mission statement start to cut corners and allow their service to decompensate to this point. Very few notes are kept regarding customer calls so I have had to repeat myself an unacceptable amount of times. Requests are not followed through.Also, this bank seems unconcerned with customer dissatisfaction. I guess they feel they are big enough now to not have to worry about unhappy customers. Don’t bank with them.

LIARS

Do NOT use Aspiration Financial - They will not release your funds after checks have cleared & they will repeatedly lie to you. The information provided on the Aspiration website & the information provided by customer service is not the same. I deposited a check under $5,000 on 12/16/2024 after 2 PM into an account that is over 30 days old. According to the Aspiration website, 12/17/2024 is the 1st business day (because my deposit was made before 2 PM on 12/17/2024) & my funds would be available in 1-2 business days. 1-2 business days is 12/18/2024 or 12/19/2024 (for those of you at Aspiration that cannot count correctly). Instead of receiving my funds 1-2 business days, I received an email saying an extended hold was placed on my deposit & my funds would be available in 5 business days. 5 business days in 12/23/2024. My funds were not available this morning so I called Aspiration & I was told my funds would be available by 5 PM on 12/23/2024. After 5 PM, when my funds were still not available, I called again. Despite what the Aspiration policy stating 12/17/2024 was considering the 1st business day & a the rep that I spoke to this morning telling me, 12/17/2024 was the 1st business day, the rep that I spoke to in the evening is telling me now 12/18/2024 is considered the first business. I asked why the policies were different & I did not receive an answer. I asked why an extended hold was placed on my deposit & I did not receive an answer. I asked to speak to a supervisor & I was hung up on when I said I would wait on hold to speak to a supervisor rather than receiving a call back because my issue had not been addressed all day.

The supervisor was the worst - She kept telling me “NO”. No, the website doesn’t state that (as I’m reading the f****** website). No, the customer service rep this morning did not tell you your funds would be available by 5 PM today. Actually, he did. Again, none of my questions were answered. The supervisor said they would review the website & my previous calls but did not address my issue & still did not release my funds or partial funds.

My check cleared by 9 AM this morning which was the alleged reason for the hold yet not a single dollar was released to me.

Aspiration is a dishonest & fraudulent & none of the employees care to assist customers or care to learn their own policies.

Don’t even bother responding to my review pretending publicly like you want to resolve the issue when no one has bothered to resolve it after 3 customer service rep calls, an email & an online inquiry.

Just opened an account yesterday and all of a sudden today the accounts are being closed. Talking about a breach of terms??? Like how???, there was no activity on the account. But thank you... due to reading other reviews it seems to be a terrible bank anyway. Glad I didn't put money in seems like y'all like to steal peoples money.

planting trees & avoiding fossil fuel firms

The company's goal to plant trees and avoid business with fossil fuel businesses is admirable in itself. But the customer service given this geriatric new customer was a refreshing change from the banking institutions I've dealt with in the past!

Just another crappy SCAM

This very useful comment from another reviewer: "Essentially, rather than offering an attractive banking product, it seems this supposedly "green" company has decided to give up and just fund itself by draining their own former customers' inactive and forgotten bank accounts. I have filed a complaint with the California Office of the Attorney General and encourage all account-holders affected by this catch-22 policy to do the same."

I signed up for this companies card a few years ago, solely because they don't charge fees. As soon as they got big enough, like all financial "institutions", they just start reaching in your account and stealing money. They took $5 out of my account with $5.33 in it. I am closing, they are just as bad as conventional banks except you'll get a bunch of scam garbage emails about how great of a company they are using your stolen money to be.

Of course customer service has not responded to my emails, despite the fact that I've gotten like 30 more Asspiration spams since sending them. Yeah, I do find it ironic that you stole my money and are telling me how great you are 6x a day.

I am currently looking for a lawyer to pursue a class action on behalf of everyone they charged. I was enticed by, and relied upon, the promise of this company not to charge fees when I signed up and deposited money. They have broken this promise by stealing money that was in my account.

Got a response from customer service (in the Phillipines, bc why not?) "Since you mentioned not being aware of this fee, I’ve submitted a rebate request on your behalf. I’ll send you another email once that has been reviewed." This was clearly just another lie as no further action has been taken, and of course the company still has what they have stolen from myself and thousands of other people!

SCAM - Draining Customers' Forgotten Accounts to Fund Bank Operations

Aspiration recently notified me that they will begin charging a $5/month inactivity fee for NOT using one's Aspiration account. This new fee structure is included in an update to their Terms of Service. I do not wish to pay this fee and do not agree to the new Terms of Service, so I contacted Aspiration to close my account.

However, they informed me that I cannot close my account without logging in. They have set up their website to make logging into a bank account without accepting their new Terms of Service impossible. Therefore, I am unable to close my account and they have now charged that account a $5 inactivity fee even though I have never accepted their new Terms of Service which give them the right to charge this fee, and in fact notified them in writing that I do not accept these Terms and wish to close my account rather than retain it under their updated TOS.

Essentially, rather than offering an attractive banking product, it seems this supposedly "green" company has decided to give up and just fund itself by draining their own former customers' inactive and forgotten bank accounts. I have filed a complaint with the California Office of the Attorney General and encourage all account-holders affected by this catch-22 policy to do the same. Hopefully they face regulatory enforcement severe enough to dissuade them from scamming their own customers.

Climate Change for good social cause

The customer service is fantastic and fast! I really love how they give back to non-profits, plant trees, and contribute to organizations fighting climate change.

Definitely consider Aspiration if you're looking for a good alternative to standard banking and want to help fight Climate Change!

I really appreciate the staff, Sonny in particular. He was so kind, helpful and solved my issue very quickly. Aspiration is a great banking service and their app functions very well. I only wish they would add some features like overdraft protection. I also think it's very admirable that you care about the environment. Instead of plastic cards maybe come out with a cool recycled material card made out of some unique plastic or salvaged wood. I think that will bring your "green" esthetic full circle. Just a few suggestions!

Thanks for the review and the suggestions, Missy! In case you didn't know, our cards are already made partially from recycled and upcycled materials. We've also passed along your request for overdraft protection to our Product team - right now, we have methods in place to prevent overdrafts for occuring, and if it does occur, we don't typically charge fees for it.

Absolute trash company

Absolute trash company. I deposited money and never used it. Forgot all about it. Only to find out they were taking ALL of my money out each month for an inactive account. Do NOT use this bank. Use a real one that isn't going to charge you for sitting there.
