Worthless charity
Cancer research UK does next to nothing in terms of cancer treatment. Most of the current treatments have not changed in 30 years.
The fact remains that more people are dying of cancer than ever before.
The CEO earns £240,000 plus per year, so if you like funding hefty salaries then please continue to donate.
Having recently lost a family member to cancer, I realised that treatments available are virtually worthless. If you are young enough and fit enough to cope with chemotherapy, then you stand a fighting chance; but if you are old and weak then your chances of surviving cancer are almost zero.
12/4/24. Their latest advert slogan is a joke "Together we are beating cancer". No we are not beating cancer. Cancer now riddles our society. It was hardly heard of in the 60's.
More useless than a handbrake on a canoe.
I’ve not seen a single treatment advancement or one decent research study from these cowboys that has made the slightest difference to any cancer treatment. Go and google it for yourselves, if you like. Their tv ads with research labs, microscopes and actors who are dressed as doctors pertains to nothing at all what this ‘charity’ is all about.
It’ll tug at your heartstrings because so many of us have lost loved ones to cancer, but they are making diddly-squat difference to treatment, survival or anything that’ll make any tangible difference. You’re finding some nice, fat salaries if you donate though, so if that’s what you want to achieve, go ahead.
I am a big supporter of charity shop…
I am a big supporter of charity shop but I was let down more then ones by the Holloway Road store. Seriously no customer service skills in this store, often overprices when notice an issue with item instead of trying to come to an agreement over the price tag, their response is: “so are you gonna buy or not? “ Before I can answer they pass to next customer while I was paying, super rude! Staff need to learn manners! I won’t be buying there again! Shame really as all the other charity shop I go I never have an issue actually quite a pleasure to buy from any store in Holloway beside this one!
I wouldn't give this utterly useless…
I wouldn't give this utterly useless entity your time or money.
They are useless worthless charlatans that offer nothing in way of advice or support of any kind..DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE USELESS CRETINS.
Hard work trying to donate!
I have donated money and also a lot of expensive items for my local C/R shop. I had a query and the response from C/R is lamentable. You cannot get through by phone and they take ages to answer emails. Even when they do reply to an email, the response is so inaccurate and perfunctory as to be insulting. After 10 years I am taking C/R off my list of favoured charities. There are more deserving ones!
Greed, money making no care for the people
Here goes , im sick and tired of you guys begging on tv its excessive. If you truely cared about people and cancer youd actually look into alternatives
You'd look into cannabis
Herbs like tumeric
You'd look into other routes instead of solely basing it on kemo which is mainly money money money.. while also pumping out multiple side effects.
You'd promote a better diet an alkaline diet
All of which will help not only cancer coming in the first place but will help reduce if not remove all together!!!
Start fighting the government more and You'd get respect far more from far more people.
Do they want my money or not?
As the executor of my Aunt’s will I have had just about enough hassle with probate and incompetent solicitors so when it came to paying out bequests I mistakenly thought this part would be easy. Oh no!!
Cancer Research UK website has no facility for this. Yes you can donate money but this does not register it’s from a specific will. Now knowing that large charities have whole departments dedicated to chasing money left to them I want a receipt to prove I have paid the bequest. No one picks up the phone the chat line is not operating and even the store managers can’t give you an address to write to and send a cheque. So I have to do a 26 mile round trip to the nearest store to fill out a form and make the payment. Who knew giving away money would be so difficult?
Doorstep harasser at 830pm
Doorstep harasser at 830pm. He didn't think it was late when I told him. Late enough to wake my children and disrupt my evening. Disgusting.
The woman should not work with public
Went to donate extremely rare engineering books that my father owned . He lost his life last Christmas through depression.
The woman said they would go in the bin . So I took them from there . I explained she needed to be a bit more tactful with her words after what had happened . She didn’t care at all even after I explained the situation . Won’t be going back there again .
Went in to donate, treated like I was stealing
I went into the Shawlands branch to buy a DVD box set and at the same time donate some games and a wine rack. As soon as I entered, a male staff member told me to wait until he’d served customers, then came over, and asked “Can I ask what’s in the bag?” in a tone as if I was stealing from the shop rather than donating. I was then grilled as to whether the games I was donating were complete. He then pointed to the wine rack and said it was too big to take.
I felt like The Accused in court rather than someone supplying their stock for free.
I wasn’t expecting a knighthood for my donation, but genuine gratitude rather than suspicion would serve the organisation well.
When I got home I found that one of the five DVDs was missing! I phoned the shop to suggest they show as much care over the quality of goods going out as they do over goods being donated, and he got very defensive, saying customers regularly steal from boxes and that he didn’t like my tone!
They’ve had their last donation and last purchase from me!
They have never beaten cancer
They have never beaten cancer . Adverts are sick.
But they have huge head office in London.
Money is notnotnot going to cancer research. Btw chemotherapy not good enough

Zero support for their charity store…
Zero support for their charity store branches in UK being the first to cease taking donations of dvd and cds, plus computer games and records. Ridiculous. Just after I had dropped them in a lot of cds. Which presumably they threw away afterwards in the trash. They could have sent them all to CEX and got a money back donation on them all just from them to go to the charity. Poor strategy not thought through. Very disappointed. I regularly bought dvds there too!
Staff doesn't like to work.
Bad review
So for years I. donated Cancer Research and done Lot charity work with my 2 kids yet very dissatisfied disappointed in service waited a refund which has taken over 6 years yet still waiting and different stay says be sorted and wasted very very not happy service we will never donate or help charity’s again after we were treated this way disgusting
Droitwich store unwelcome
My husband went to donate to the Droitwich store a mixed bag of goods which included 3 or 4 very new books amongst other things but we wanted to have the bag back as it was reusable and useful. When asking if he could have the bag back he was told “ you can take the whole lot back, we don’t want books” So abrupt and cold. Cannot believe this is the attitude of charity workers. We then took it to RSPCA shop who gladly took the items and we had the bag back. We will donate elsewhere in future.
I decided to donate some clothes to cancer research
I decided to donate some clothes and furniture to Cancer research but had some issue with my car so I could not make the journey, luckily my local cancer research store were kind enough to pick up from my house the same day, and the staff were so kind and helpful.
had really good experience with cancer research
had really good experience with my local cancer research shop when donating clothes, the staff were really helpful and gave me great service even when they were really busy.
Rude Manager at Wallingford shop
I decided to specifically find a cancer research shop to donate some of my old belongings (as I have 2 family members that are suffering at the moment) as we're moving tomorrow.
I dropped 1 box off of my things and the manager said: are you a gift aider with us. I said no but I'm really in a hurry (as all people that have moved will know, there's about a million things to do).
To which she replied...
'Well we're doing you a favour, nice of you to do one for us.'
I am disappointed that cancer research have rude staff running their shops. Very sad.
short order
ordered 3 mugs online and only 1 was delivered no answer to over 4 emails beware
