We went on the Essential Australia tour in April 2025. What a brilliant experience. Very well organised from start to finish. All transfers were efficient. The care and the knowledge of our guide, Pam, was tremendous. Nothing was too much trouble and her knowledge of the country made the holiday even more special. Do it!! It’s worth every penny.

The ground handlers and guide were very good, meeting us from airport and train station. A special mention for the guide/driver Ferdinand who provided excellent formation and looked after us very well.
Overall the tour is very good. Be aware that ‘The Ark’ is at 2283m and it can be cold at night as can a couple of other locations which are high up. Be prepared for a lot of time travelling. The distance between a few of the lodges can be five or six hours and then with an afternoon game drive can be a long time in the vehicle. There is always the choice to drop a couple of games drives to suit.
The vehicle is very good with fresh bottled water always available and there are lots of opportunities and locations for bathroom breaks.All of the hotels and lodges were excellent with a very wide range of foods available and the two tented lodges provide the best pizzas we have ever eaten! The balloon trip is expensive and we had poor weather for it and this ruined the champagne breakfast. The great migration is outside of the range of the balloon trip and we could only see it in the distance. Fortunately we were able to drive to it. Be aware that it can be cancelled or abandoned without refund which you will not know until the evening before. Overall we saw everything, and on numerous occasions and it is a trip to remember.

I went on the Wonders of Australia tour in July/August of 2025.

The tour was very well organised and all flights, transfers and hotels were fine. I was also fortunate to travel with a lovely group that bonded well. The things I saw in Singapore and Australia were spectacular.

The tour guide, James, was very knowledgable about all of the places we visited. He regularly provided or contributed to many of the tour commentaries.

Be warned, however, that he has a ‘blokey’ sense of humour. His jokes about hotel rooms needing extra cleaning due to prior homosexual activity, or his drawing attention to the scant clothing of certain females on the street may prove embarrassing if you have children.

There was one under-age traveller in our group, so I’m not sure this humour was appropriate.

Overall, the tour is highly recommended if you don’t mind a bit of ‘blokey humour’, but if you are travelling with kids, or are easily offended, it’s probably wise to book your Australian adventure elsewhere.

Do not deal with these people if you like transparency over pricing!
My wife requested a quote for the ‘Very Best of Vietnam’ tour, and was quoted the Brochure Price of £4,095 each, less £100 ‘early booking promotion’ of £100 each. So far so good!
We had requested Economy Flights, but thought that we may be interested in upgrading, so we asked for a requote on that basis, but found that the upgrade cost was £2,095 each rather than the price advertised in the Brochure of £1,395. So we asked to go back the original quotation of £4,095.
We were shocked to be told that we would have to pay a ‘supplement’ of £300 because the cost of the flights had changed between the first and second quote. Bearing in mind that there were only 10 days between the original booking and the revised booking (half of which was caused by Distant Journeys spelling my wife’s name incorrectly , which had to be corrected).
I enquired about the reasons for the supplement, and I was given what I can only call various c***-and-bull explanations.
• The price of the flight had increased – at no time were we told that there was a time limit on the quote because of the potential price implications. In any case, Distant Journeys were the cause of part of the delay as noted above
• In a classic coincidence, I received an email from Distant Journeys on the day after the revised quotation was received, and the price was quoted exactly as I would have expected ie £4,095 less £100 ‘early booking discount’ of £100. So I asked Distant Journeys if, as a new customer, I had phoned in for a quote that day, I would have been charged the Supplement of £300. They said ‘yes’
• I pointed out to them that they therefore knowingly continued to advertise a price which they knew that they would not honour, dishonestly enticing customers to request quotes.
• They did not believe that there were any Trade Description or Consumer Protection Act implications.
We travelled with Distant Journeys previously to South Africa (not to mention the China Tour we booked in 2020 which was cancelled because of Covid), but that counted for nothing, so we decided not to travel with them again.

PS I have just read Distant Journey’s reply - it just makes matters worse - I have lost complete trust in their honesty!

Multiple issues some very serious as our safety was put at risk. Schedules were often gruelling. Some starts so early we couldn’t get breakfast at the hotel but had a box that was awful. Some hotels were a long way from points of interest. One guide created chaos and more

Travelled to New Zealand in January 2025 with Distant Journeys. Excellent experience. First class hotels and coach captains who shared information about their beautiful country. They were knowledgeable and helpful. I have booked another trip with Distant Journeys for 2026 and would thoroughly recommend this company.

A trip of a lifetime to China. it’s such a country of contrasts, with sprawling cites and the beautiful countryside. Getting around is easy with the high speed trains and far more comfortable than economy class when flying. We started in Beijing and finished in Shanghai, with many stops in between. All the accommodation was of a high standard, although a little disappointed with the hotel in Shanghai as it was rated a 4/5 star but quite tired when you got to the rooms and some of the staff were not particularly friendly or helpful. I would thoroughly recommend the stay in Pingyao and the resort in Guilin with the trip along the Lijiang river to reach it.it was nice to have the 3night cruise along the Yangtze River as a way to chill out after the hectic day’s visiting the Great Wall and terracotta arm among other things. The trip required some degree of fitness as places like the Great Wall are at a high altitude and involve a lot of walking up hills and stairs. Stair cases are often stone with no handrails which can be difficult at times.

I must say Distant Journeys are a superb travel provider their staff are first class. I made an online enquiry to visit the Golden Triangle and requested a brochure which arrived quickly. I phoned the company and discussed my requirements with a member of staff who was very knowledgeable and outlined the 11 day guided tours in detail and ensured me that all teh hotels were 4 star/5 star. I asked for an email outlining the tour for my wife and i to review, this was sent straight after my call. I discussed this with my wife and we booked the trip taking up the early booking discount offered. The trip was absolutely brilliant , the hotels first class and our tour guide was superb. Each day was an excellent experience and i can highly recommend booking with Distant Journeys as they are first class.

The Sri Lanka programme offers a really varied trip and we had a great guide Su, who was very knowledgable, organised and interesting.

Excellent tour, in fact it was a holiday of a lifetime. This was my first holiday solo, so to say I was a tad nervous is an understatement. From start to finish it was so well organised, lovely hotels and a fantastic guide Danielle. Distant journeys kept us informed via their app throughout the whole holiday. The holiday itself was truly amazing and one that I shall never forget. I would have done it all over again if I could have. Great holiday company, in fact I am going to book again with them and go to India next, I dont think there is another company to beat them. Always on the end of the phone, they ring you back when they say they will. Customer service excellent and friendly and very knowledgeable staff, no matter how silly you think your question is.

We had a great time, the itinerary was well thought out and adhered to. All the hotels were a good standard and well placed for exploring the locality and restaurants. So much to see , we enjoyed every minute.

Distant Journeys online and physical brochures are of the highest quality and filled with details of each day of the trip. There was regular communication about the upcoming trip and any minor changes such as flight timings and when to apply for our Indian visas. The app we received contained particularly useful information around culture, climate and tipping. On arrival in India we were constantly in the care of our Tour Manager who looked after all the aspects of the tour including hotel check-in, admission tickets and tips. All the hotels were of a very high standard and matched the ratings in the brochure. The size of the group (23) was just right giving plenty of space on the coach. Distant Journeys provided a 5 star service from beginning to end.

Distant journeys made my experience in India something special. From superb hotels, knowledgable and caring guide to excellent organisation throughout. Aside from the iconic sites, we had 4 separate tiger sightings. The Goa extension was a welcome end to a full programme and gave us a taste of a different side of India. I have recommended the company to several friends.

Just back from the 15 day classic Vietnam, Cambodia tour with a few days stopover in Singapore. There were just two of us and we took the private option.
The guides and drivers were all excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. The hotels good, some excellent, all in great central locations. Pickups and drop offs work seamlessly. One hiccup on a delayed flight but we were able to flip a tour day so it didn’t really affect us. Tour highlights. Ha long bay cruise. Hoi An. Angkor Wat. The app with itinerary works really well and is useful. Really delighted with the whole trip, a fabulous experience.
