The service provided was excellent in that they recovered all my lost data in a timely fashion. What was not so good was the price although I was offered a no charge return if I didn't want to proceed. The final price increased considerably from the original enquiry and of course that didn't include vat. This is the first time I had used this kind of service and had no idea what to expect in the way of charges. Maybe I am being too critical as the contacts were always very polite and helpful.

Lesson learned- Have a proper back up in place for irreplaceable data.

I bought a used NAS on EBay in the full understanding that one of the drives was reporting a problem but did nothing about it for three years with my backups working well initially. When the issue became critical I hot-swapped a new drive but before the rebuild had finished a second drive failed. As I was using RAID 5 configuration this was potentially fatal. I contacted the manufacturer (QNAP) who tried very hard through many days of trials and resets to recover my data despite the NAS being no longer officially supported. Eventually they had to admit defeat and recommended a commercial data recovery service. I found Fields Data Recovery who responded within hours of my first tentative enquiry and listened carefully to my problem, explaining what steps they would take and how long the process would be. Having shipped the drives (new and old, broken and working) I was kept informed at all times by FDR of the status of the recovery process with almost daily contact by phone and email. Eventually the data recovery was successful and all drives returned to me together with data on separate storage. The whole process was expensive but the company recognised that I am not a company but an individual and did a great deal to keep costs to a minimum.
I am 100% satisfied with the service and efficiency of FDR who followed up after return of my drives to ensure that I was happy with the status of the data. They keep the details for a short time (mutually agreed) in case there is a need to rewrite the data to another medium and then your data is securely destroyed.

The initial contact was following an internet search for someone to read the data on a failed hard disc. The initial information provided by FDR was positive and reassuring. The HD was despatched to FDR and I was provided with regular updates regarding the data recovery. I was finally informed that all the data had been recovered and was e-mailed DropBox links which I found impossible to use, so despatched a external disc to FDR which they downloaded the data on and returned to me.
I was very impressed with the activity of FDR and the communications during the project.
I thought the cost was quite high although was informed of this before the start.

I was very dissapointed with the service I received.
After the initial survey of my solid state drive that had crashed a week earlier, Daniel contacted me to say they would need the full action plan to help recover the data. So after some negociations and a convincing sales talk about how much data they normally recover I agreed to fork out £780.
I got a couple of update calls on how far they had got (66%) in getting an "image" and they would have rezults at the end of the day, all encoraging.
Then the following day, sorry but we got absolutly nothing ! No files no images, no lists nothing.
I sent back an email explaining my dissapointment given what they had told me. No response what so ever !
I feel like a mug to be honest trusting these guys and falling for all their reasurances

I used Fields Data Recovery after my PC hard drive crashed. I thought I had lost a large amount of work that hadn't been backed up. The service was very good, they kept me informed of progress and gave me a clear understanding of what data could be retrieved before I paid. I was very happy with the communication, efficiency and quick turn around. It was a little more expensive than I expected, but that's the price you pay for not checking your backups.
