Garratts Solicitors Avis 

I tried to engage Garretts solicitors for a legal matter. Sadly they were extremely unprofessional and unresponsive. After complaining about the lack of response they offered no apology. This would make me very anxious about placing my legal representation in their hands.

Completed incorrect information on conveyency and incorrect Deed of Covenant. Took me 2 years to resolve with them.

Once they completed it they send the Leasehold company incorrect address details for myself that incurred late payment charges.

Do not respond to emails and have to be forced at every point to take any action.

Incompetent and negligible. Avoid.

I have had the unfortunate experience of selling my property to buyers using Garratts - almost 6 months in to this sale, missed agreed completion date today, and no contact with our solicitor or agent.
House packed up, lives put on hold!!
Our buyer at times hasn't been able to contact them or get answers themselves!
We advised if they do not make any kind of contact and agree to try and move things forward by today we will not sell to our buyers and still nothing!
Stressed buyers, stressed sellers, all parties hugely frustrated!!!

and gave great attention to the necessay detail and surprisingly and pleasingly was pro active to speed up the process updated meco. Ang change I. Status within a day same day sometimes-wonderful at this anxious time fof me

I used for conveyancing to do a transfer of equity.
Getting the initial paperwork and paying the deposit went smoothly. After this the lack of communication was absolutely terrible. There were never any updates or acknowledgement of emails. I rang every day for a week at one point to get a response.

The initial exchange date came & went with no updates. The email confirming completion arrived 3 days after it actually completed and only after I'd chased.

I wouldn't use again

Their model of having to pay upfront says it all. You talk to their cashiers first, ugh! Scam company who gave terrible advice when my family were extremely vulnerable and cost us precious time not to mention the money we paid for absolutely nothing delivered by very cold, aloof people. The thing they told us couldn't happened did happen within the same week. Wish we had complained to the legal ombudsman (has to be done within 12 month now). Unfortunately we were embroiled in a very messy legal case.

Re Crime team
Referred to legal ombudsman as not even acknowledged complaint raised October 2022 . Multiple emails sent to nothing.
If you want your case taken seriously, i would seriously consider NOT using this firm, too risky.
The old leads for crime were much more professional and understanding and put you at ease, these are clowns who messed my case up until i changed firm

Liaised with solicitor regularly. We were relocating and Lianne did both buying & selling transactions.
Challenges with sellers solicitors down south however Lianne remained stoic, focused and professional to the end.

Absolutely shocking excuse for a legal firm. My father’s will was not enacted as written and even though garratt’s were a named executor of this Will we were told by Jill Latimer that it wasn’t up to them to make sure the will was carried out properly and if we wanted to ‘make them’ we’d have to seek our own legal council.

We had the Will assessed independently by two other firms and were told by both solicitors that this Will was poorly and strangely written. Despite trying to contact Garratt’s to get to the bottom of why the Will hasn’t been enacted, they’ve been ignoring any attempts at communication for the last several months.

Reading other troubling reviews it’s clear that nefarious dealings are quite normal with this firm, so I would urge anyone to stay far away from them.

I contacted the solicitors who dealt with mental health on ,the 5th 6th April I understood it was Easter and wouldn’t hear from them. That day 3 solicitors from the company contacted me I thought great I replied to them all. Sent over emails. Richard contacted me saying he was on leave and passed to another solicitor to contact me. I made a complaint to company where my husband was in rehab and wanted some advice. Nothing received I rang Garratts and explained that someone would come back to me. Today is the 28th April. Nothing has happened I have sent emails and made phone calls nothing. I trusted this company as we made our Wills with them.
All they had to say sorry we can’t help you

Terrible service always having to chase 4 months after completion and still not resolved held back a retention to cover chief rent and still waiting for answers
If you want a slow painful experience I would fully recommend

Lisa Scott at garratts did the impossible, with a very short mortgage deadline she helped me complete in a matter of weeks! Replied quickly to every email and kept me updated every step of the way. Really professional and knowledgeable. Happy to answer any concerns. If it wasn’t for Lisa I would have lost out on my mortgage deal and not be in my house! 100% recommend to anyone looking for conveyancing.

Excellent service throughout the case from Stephen, Szilvia, Daniel and Amanda.
Took on the case when other firms were reluctant and achieved a settlement for me above what was expected. Also lowered their fees which was very generous of them! Can fully recommend this firm.

Tiny firm - said that they could not take on 4 properties, as would not have the capacity. Michelle was quite terse to me on the phone too, which was surprising given that I was wanting to give her custom, and not the other way around.

Poor communication across the duration of the conveyancing, It took circa 16 weeks to complete and i had to chase them several times for updates. Final straw was an additional undisclosed charge added to my bill that was never discussed or agreed. Since i questioned it I've not heard back as they had deducted my fee and moved on it would appear. My advice would be to use another solicitors.

Lianne was excellent. We are very pleased with how easy and fast the conveyancing process was for us. We were kept up to date, and we appreciated the proactivity - for example we didn’t really ever need to chase for anything. Thank you so much for your assistance!

Very happy with the service from Garrats Solicitors. I had a very tricky clinical negligence case for PTSD yet Garratts took the case on anyway despite rejection from other firms. Not only did they win the case but I also received a payout way in excess of what was expected. The firm also took a very reasonable percentage of the winnings which was an added bonus as the case went on for a very long time. All in all would highly recommend.

I Was referred to Garratts in Oldham by a family member without me knowing. Mr Stephen Garratt p.a called to make an appointment& then took on my case in 0ct 2017.
