The best system out there

I have had my system for a few years now and love it . I really like self monitoring and love the ease of use and it allows me to customize all sensors and settings to exactly the way I want . it's the best alarm I ever had and the best I've ever seen

So far I'm extremely happy!

So far I'm extremely happy with the system performance and integration with Apple's HomeKit. I can't seem to get HomeKit's geofencing to work but the Abode geofencing is working like a charm.

The set up was a breeze! Not a single hitch in any of it. I've been adding other smart switches for lighting. I've set up schemes where lights come on and off based on security settings as they change from Standby to Home to Away. I also have a scheme if an alarm is activated. Again, those automations work great with the Abode system.

Complicated for casement windows

I ended up ordering way too many items, the regular window units wouldn’t fit on my casement windows. I still don’t think I have the right set up. And I’m not really sure how to get the system to work other than away

Wanted the product due to free…

Wanted the product due to free notifications and that’s what it advertised with. They have since locked that behind a paywall. They will continue to screw over the customer at every step if it increases the bottom line.

Excellent security system

Excellent system, easy to install, lots of great accessories (love the windows slim strip) and nice integration with Apple HomeKit. I wish it could sold, shipped from Canada to avoid custom fees.

It took me over a year to get a very…

It took me over a year to get a very simple issue fixed. Because of this issue I have not had my security system plugged in for the last year and I have spoken to 10 different texts trying to get it sorted out and it ended up just being a pretty simple reset from your end.

Love ABODE!

I have two systems and would never be concerned about the workability of them. The “Geo Fence” was something I discovered long after the introduction andI I am very glad to have looked in to it. It works and is so convenient!

Great Product, Good Troubleshooting

Overall I love the products and the control that I have over them. I had one out of four cameras that was not connecting. Abode helped me attempt to figure out what the issue was, and eventually sent me a new one, that did connect. I was a little annoyed about the longish process at first but came to realize that they had to go through each step to properly troubleshoot this issue. This also showed me how much faith they have in their product, and that these issues are very rare.

Reliable alarm, easy to install. Cameras are generally *not* suitable for outdoor use

Easy to install, but motion detectors don’t work at all if you have pets (dogs and/or cats). As an alarm, it’s top-notch, with integrated battery backup as well as backup internet access via cellular (provided you pay for the 24/7 monitoring).

Beware of trying to use cameras in an outdoor environment. The operating temperature range is 14° F to 113° F, which is completely inadequate for a large chunk of the continental US. Particularly annoying is the need to manually reconnect a camera that loses its connection because the ambient temperature goes outside this range. Aside from this little quirk, inside cameras work well in all lighting conditions and general motion detection works fine. Selective motion detection (animals, people, packages) is a work in progress and is probably 75% accurate. The main detractor is the selective detection fails on many occasions to detect deliveries.

Home automation works well and is extremely easy to set up, provided you use Abode’s devices. Zigbee/Zwave works, provided you can find compatible devices for sale anyplace (many power control devices listed as compatible have been discontinued and Abode doesn’t seem to be in any rush to add new ones).

Tech support is a little hit or miss, and seems to vary according to the specific person you’re talking to. It’s taken 3-4 calls at times to resolve an issue.

Abysmal Customer Service and Follow-through

As we were installing the Abode system in early September, we realized that we needed to exchange 4 regular door sensors for the recessed kind. I contacted Abode, and was told that because I bought a 6-pack of door sensors, I would have to return all 6 regular door sensors to do an exchange (!) Because some of them had already been installed, returning all 6 was not an option. Because I had also purchased an additional 3 door sensors, I offered to exchange 3 of the regular door sensors for 3 recessed sensors, and pay extra for the 4th recessed sensor I needed. The response was that this problem would be circulated to “the team,” and I would be contacted with a solution. It has a month since I last checked in with the employee, and I have received nothing. So, 2 days ago, I ordered and paid for additional door sensors. For the last month then, only my windows have been alarmed, which doesn’t create a very safe and secure alarm system. I was initially very excited to choose the “little guys” instead of Brinks, and I was especially interested in the Apple Homekit compatibility. However, this dismal customer service has made me think again. I really can’t recommend Abode to anyone else at this point.

Bait and Switch

I purhcased my abode system a few years ago. At the time, the free "self-monitoring" tier allowed a timeline of events and good notifications. Now they have stripped all of those features away. You can no longer see a timeline of what has happened, and notifications are now generic and just tell you that something happened but you are left guessing what. Classic bait and switch. Of course, they are willing to give the features back if you pay them a monthly subscription.

Avoid Abode at all costs

I've been using an Abode system at home for two years, but extremely unhappy with the bait and switch and them putting basic features behind a paywall. I used to get notifications about specific doors opening and closing, but Abode decided to put that behind a paywall and now all I see is a useless "An event has occurred" notification. I would avoid this company for their scummy anti-consumer practices. I'm currently looking at alternatives as well.

I used to be an ADT customer…
Now, my ADT system was great, worked as it should but would let me down sometimes when the batteries are low in the sensors, the cost per month was absurd and the system itself was outdated, yes even their “smart” system.

So I decided to purchase a system from Abode, partly due to the fact that my home is entirely smart and and HomeKit compatible. It was easy to set up and install, and I have complete freedom with if I want professional monitoring or not and if I do the price is reasonable. I’ve had it for a couple of months now and have never run into issues, which is strange because I was expecting a few hiccups here and there but go my surprise it’s been running smoothly. The gateway also supports zigbee and a-wave so that’s a plus although I’d never use it. Notifications are instant and work with the new “critical alerts” feature on iOS, the siren is loud, the implementation of Apple HomeKit is superb, I can ask Siri to disarm and arm the system, set it to home mode etc. I’ve made a few automations too such as turning my lights to red if the alarm is triggered, play an intruder sound via a airplay speaker, switch on my outdoor lights if the front door is open, notify me of occupants in the house of any particular rooms which works really well with my smart thermostat.

The best of all however is the customer service, I tested their live chat out, out of curiosity and the replies were instant, maximum wait time of 2 mins.

All in all I’m extremely impressed and couldn’t be happier. Well done to Abode they’ve created a brilliant piece of hardware.

I was given false information about…

I was given false information about shipping and a nightmare ensued. I contacted yall with enough time to correct your mistake but yall refused. One of the packages was sent by yall to oblivion where USPS destroyed it and the other took weeks to reroute to the correct address- which was then refused and sent back. I am still trying to get a refund on my orders!! I may end up having to file with BBB or call my attorney.

Better HomeKit experience now

Amending this review - customer service reached out and walked me through the problems with Apple.

Since updating to iOS 16 you no longer get the motion triggers that activate the alarm when in Night or Home mode - so problem finally fixed!

Great mix of products at fair prices.

Great mix of products at fair prices.
Have used for over a month with no issues. We’ll designed app is easy to use. Have door/window detectors, motion detectors, light/temp/humidity/motion detector, fire alarm monitor, water leak detectors, keypad, Keyfob, but no cameras. (I use arlo cameras instead). Great battery life and wireless connectivity in devices. I am DIY, don’t have subscription. Would be great if they could add push notifications for the light/temp/humidity detector with high/low limits we could program. Currently, it’s just a monitor we have to manually check using the app. Would give 5 stars instead of 4 but setup using iPhone was a disaster. Had issues enrolling each device, and major problem adding other users. They need to do a better job keeping up with smart phone operating systems.
