I've been with Abode for about five…
I've been with Abode for about five years now (i.e. both the security system and monitoring), and overall they have been a great company. I choose Abode for their capacity to interface with IFTTT protocol, which has worked out OK. Lately they have lauched their own brand of a automated products. As long as you have a rock solid network, they work well. The camera system is truly a bargain but they are NOT 100% effective, meaning they are NOT part of a true security system. Also, Abode should be selling a system where videos are saved locally, instread of on their server. I'd happily pay for this capability. They have given me no reason to replace my base station. And finally, they force you to accept their new application when they upgrade, whether or not all the functions actually work during the time of release (i.e. the ability to take a picture with my motion detector/ camera during the last app release; now fixed).
Ok for DIY folks
Prices are great, but reliability of some components is low. The Abode Cam 2 is still working out issues. I’m very pleased with the performance of the system getting me notified about events near and in the house.

Did not want to subscribe to a plan. I returned the products. The activation of a sensor does not let you know which sensor was activated without a subscription like it used to. Ended up buying YOLINK products and they work perfectly for free !!!

I love the system, even though the settings get a little complicated and could use some pop-up explanations or examples to show when to turn something on or off.
What I hate is that the cameras do not show up on HomeKit!
I understand that there may be a different cost for Abode to do so. So then make another version for Apple users!

The free version of abode is extremely misleading. The alerts you receive in the free version don’t provide any indication as to what device is triggered rendering the system useless unless you pay.
Simple to install, but cameras have issues, and monitoring cost keeps going up.
I like the simple installation, and relatively low price. But I’ve been disappointed in the performance of the cameras, and the fact that I’ve had to replace two of them when they failed.
Finally, the cost of the monitoring service when I started with Abode was great. Particularly the on-demand option. But that cost has more than doubled and makes me much less likely to recommend Abode to my friends.
The tech support is very responsive
The tech support is very responsive and stay with you until your issue is resolved. Instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Misleading marketing. Not recommended!
The company advertises that "App Access and Mobile Notifications" are Free. What is not being said is that the free notifications will tell you tell you that a sensor is has disconnected, or that a battery in a sensor is dead, etc. In these cases you will get “An event has occurred in the Abode System”. Useful notifications are offered only for a monthly fee.
Hardware is buggy and app is clunky
Hardware is buggy and app is clunky. Abode was highly recommended but the doorbell doesn't work, customizing notifications is difficult, and the app is just overall of a poor quality.
Customer Support Offers No Support
I have asked 2 years in a row to take services removed from my account and am told every year they have been take off (over $300). Just to be charged again the next year. Customer support offers no help, demanding screenshots of the conversation since their customer support platform apparently doesn't save conversations. Very disappointing. Ring just got a new customer.

This is the second abode system I bought. I am electrician, I am very happy with it.
Great concept, needs a little improvement
The Abode equipment looks nice and shiny and is neatly packaged. It's expensive. Minus points for not including a user's guide: nothing beyond basic setup instructions on a tiny leaflet. Nothing about all the colours your keypad will flash, for example, or how to get the most out of the pieces and understand how they work. You have to look everything up on the website. And there needs to be more info on the product pages so you know if you're buying the right things (i.e. I would've got a 2nd smoke alarm detector if it had indicated the thing has to be within 6" of the alarm). The app is pretty easy to use. Customer support has been good but the online chat is slow -- maybe too few staff trying to help too many people at once. Not being locked into expensive monitoring contracts is excellent. The mix-&-match pieces are a great concept. Taking off major points for the cameras: glitchy; had to have one replaced after just 7 weeks (company was responsive); "night vision" doesn't work too well; when set to "all motion" they are triggered by literally single snowflakes, but "smart detect" is garbage -- people walk right by both my cameras without triggering recording. I like the system concept -- it needs a little work on user-friendliness and some much better cameras. 3.5 stars... could be a solid 5 with these improvements.
There is nothing I dislike about Abode
There is nothing I dislike about Abode, I currently have 3 complete systems and love the versatility of it. If there was anything I wish was better it would be the quality of the video on the mobile app. The video quality on PC, or TV is extremely better than on the APP.
