Freegle Avis 

The platform itself is great, it is really easy to post what you're looking for/rid of, and really easy to chat with the people who are interested. The feature I appreciate most is the user profiles and rating system, which helps somewhat in finding someone who genuinely needs a helping hand.

Just be aware that there are unscrupulous folks using the platform to get free things they don't really need, or are going to resell, so use with caution and be prepared for time wasters.

I've used Freegle (& freecycle before that) for some time, and it is a great site to both give and find second hand items for re-use. Its always nice to see something you no longer use go to a happy home elsewhere.

A great way to reuse and recycle, keep stuff out of landfill, help out those on a budget and charities as well as finding some really useful stuff for yourself. I've been using Freegle for almost 14 years, mainly to give things away because I hate wasting or dumping anything that's still useful. Whilst it can be a little slower than using FB, although I use both, generally people on Freegle are more polite, grateful and easier to deal with and there's more transparency about their location. Admins will also deal with any inappropriate responders if reported. There will always be timewasters on any site. There's the facility to rate Freeglers positively or negatively and you can also block persistent timewasters and super-greedy types. I tend to leave stuff outside my door for collection time so I don't get inconvenienced or let down by no-shows, the stuff is free after all so if it gets pinched from the doorstep it doesn't really matter.

I have found all the things needed it's easy to use and very safe.

A great organisation dedicated to stopping 'stuff', anything, from being thrown away. Run on a local basis, with volunteers, it's very efficient and effective.

I've given away many things and received things too. Most recently gave away two 2.5ltr water containers bought by me to use the de-ionised water in my iron. I buy these several times a year and I've always hated throwing thesm away. Now I have someone who can reuse them for something. Less landfill and waste. Great result for the planet.

You'll find everything on there, from furniture to clothing. Please support and help save waste at the same time.

I find it very disappointing that people who respond to offers that you make can't even turn up on time or in fact if at all to collect items that you have donated for free.
There is also no facility to complain to those that operate this site.
Won't be using it again.

awful interface, takes an age on slowe connections ,people say you can have arrange then pull out, tiny tiny thing moderators dont like they bin your whole post never tell you exactly what they dont like, just rude , think they get off on it ,I used a while ago and left as of all this, thought try again, but same moderators up own behind, so gave up, as other guy said easier to skip it, sad but true, I did 2 runs to tip, so much easier bish bash 1 hour all gone, freecycle, and freegle waste of time now, dont waste your time

Over half of the items on show (offered) have been "freegled", so why not simply remove them? OR at least offer the option (in settings) NOT to show them, as is the case on other sites, such as HUKD, where we are able to "filter out" expired deals.

I appreciate your reply BUT please consider what I said about a FILTER option, to enable "expired" offers to be hidden.

I personally didn't think we needed to be reminded of what we've essentially MISSED, when all we need to know about is what's on offer.

Mixed feelings really. Worth a try but you have to be prepared to get messed around quite a lot. Many people don't seem to value what's free, and they don't bother to turn up as agreed or even reply to offers. Some make feeble excuses (an unbelievable number of grandmothers have died, thus preventing collection).
However, when it works well it's great, you meet some nice people and your stuff goes on to another home.

I have used this site to pass on items that I would have in the past taken to the local tip. I have passed on numerous items. If you have anything that you no longer want or use, then use this site.

So easy to use and it is so good for the environment. Really worth using really recommend!

Freegle is a brilliant way of not only de-cluttering but, as importantly, giving items a second chance and helping others.
You would be amazed what other people consider useful. I hate throwing things away, so this is a great system.
Also, you can pick up all sorts of useful things, at no monetary cost at all.
You only give out personal details, such as your address, once you have agreed a transaction with someone, so I do feel safe.

Freegle and it's 'sibblings', Trash Nothing & Freecycle have helped me over the years to declutter. More so this year when I downsized from a three bed + garage down to a much smaller place. Then was looking for smaller items to fit the flat & the app was very useful again! Thank you to all the organisers & to the local community pulling up together to help each other & to reduce waste!

I will freely admit I'm a bit of a hoarder. I have stuff that I've kept for 20 years that may come in handy one day. When I was told about Freegle it made it possible for me to down-size my hoard, knowing that it would (probably) be useful to someone else.

All these sites have a couple of problems: - "No Shows" and "traders" (people who are getting stuff for nothing and selling it on eBay or at bootfairs0.

The former is being addressed by the Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down and the indication that a person is not responding to communications. It's not perfect, but after giving/receiving for a while, you get to know the signs.

The latter can be spotted from their response being nothing more than asking for it (e.g. "Is this still available?") - no reason why they want it. I tend to wait for at least 24hrs before deciding who gets something if there are multiple responses. Also, I don't put up the more desirable items, preferring to respond to a person who is asking for something specific.

I have been Freegling since 2011, and in that time have given away over 350 items (85% of offers I've made). On top of that I've given over 100 items in response to "Wanteds".
On the other hand, I've received just over 100 items.
I try to meet the people concerned and, for the most part, they are genuine. I get very few "no Shows", but anyone who does that never gets anything they ask for from me.

To sum up, Freegle has helped me reduce my "useful one day" mountain and probably helped some people along the way... What's not to like about that.

Freegle is a fantastic place to give away items you no longer need, gives someone else the opportunity to use them and saves items going to landfill. Also take a look at the site while you’re there, you may find something that you’d like but never thought you could afford. I’ve done most of my back garden thanks to freegle, from rocks & seeds to gravel and decking. Plus helped less fortunate people with items I no longer needed. It’s great for the community and the environment.

I've given 100's of items, and received quite a few too. Nearly everyone a pleasure to 'do business with'

I use the Sheffield group. It's easy to upload items I need to get rid of. The overall system seems to work well. I've passed on all sorts of things that I can no longer use: Beds/Bedding, excess light bulbs, children's clothes/toys, and a couple of non-working electrical items (which some people want for spare parts). I prefer using the web version (I'm a bit old-school!) , rather than the app, but both work well. It's good to have both options. Yes, there are a lot of responders who simply say "Is this available" and then never respond to anything after that. But I've learned only to open up discussion with a Freegler who gives a fuller response. I've not had many "no shows". I've also received some excellent items: an office chair, garden planters/pots, some stationery and packing. And doing the various exchanges I've occasionally had a lovely conversation with a complete stranger on the doorstep.

Great service to both the planet and the community , however considering vast size of London, I think only a very small percentage of the population are aware of this fantastic community. Spread the word guys!
