Good and flexible experience but the only thing lacking was more support on finding student careers.

IU was the perfect school for me! Loved being able to do work on my own terms.

Overall a decent school. There was nothing extraordinary about Independence University. There were both good points and not-so-good points. Discussing some of the negatives first, at times, I thought the course work was elementary and that the instructors often handed out completion grades. This was made evident when I retook a class about halfway through. On a particular assignment I made a 100 the first time.

On the retake, I resubmitted the same work for the same questions and got a 60. Despite my questions about why I was docked so many points, I never got a full explanation of what I did wrong, just that my answers were wrong. I revisited the lecture, checked out online forums, and tried to connect with a tutor (of 3 attempts to connect with a tutor in 3.5 years, I never once got a response). All of my searches showed that my math was correct, so I remain confused to this day.

Aside from inconsistent grading criteria among instructors, the accesses you are given to scholarly articles is limited. There are a number of sites which house these and Independence University is not partnered with any outside of their limited SHARC system.

As far as student experiences go, they try. But many of the events they host are the types of events that one would see an office hold. They also don't really have any relationships or influences with employers. I had to work extremely hard to try to get any kind of experience I could prior to graduation so I could land a job. I was successful in that endeavor, but had little help from the school.

Aside from the 2nd class I took after enrollment, I never had any type of career counseling or resume advice. I had to go it alone. At the school I transferred from, the academic counselor would reach out to discuss career goals and plans and try to guide you in the best direction to achieve them.

The other problem I had was during enrollment, the admissions counselor was touting the fact that they are a non-profit organization. Really, that doesn't mean anything as almost any university is considered a non-profit. They charged a high tuition of over $70,000 for my undergrad program. Even with maxed out pell grants, a $5,000 scholarship, and 52,000 in federal student loans, I still had to get a payment plan with the school to pay the difference.

Now, I have listed several negatives, but there was some good: chief among those is the amount of courses you take. I took Accounting with a Forensic emphasis. In accounting, the ultimate goal is to acquire CPA licensure with your state. This is one of the only programs that actually fulfills all of the required coursework necessary to qualify you to sit for the CPA exam. None of the other schools I researched prior to enrolling here offered the type and volume of coursework necessary for an undergraduate to take the CPA exam. If I had chosen anywhere else, I would have had to enroll in a master's program somewhere else to fulfill the credit requirement. When I looked at it this way, the high cost of tuition actually saves me money from the graduate programs.

On the topic of graduate programs, because Independence University is a career school, their accreditation is not accepted by the majority of regional institutions. Even with a high GMAT score, I was turned down by several because of this. I still plan to attend grad school as there are skills I hope to develop later on in my career, but if you want to attend immediately after finishing here, you need to consider that your options will be limited.

The school tries to say that they are held to a higher standard because to maintain their certification, they have to graduate a specific number or percentage of enrollees. However, other institutions view this as "they will just give out passing grades in order to keep their numbers good enough to maintain accreditation." Give it careful thought before enrolling. For some this is still a good option, while for others it may not be. For me, it was.

Loved Independence University, I earned my associates and Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. It really worked with my schedule and you have plenty of support.

The learning experience the school provides is perfect for the busy adult who can't go to school in person. I am a full time working mother of four children and four animals. It was convenient to do school when I was able to, but the most important thing I have learned is self discipline. I didn't have any before I started college and overtime I gained more and more. Success depends on you.

Independence kept students on track to help them keep up with their courses so they can achieve success. The staffs is very helpful and is willing to do all they can to assist.

I really feel like just a number. I was never contacted by the administration, or financial aid to ask if I wanted to continue my education or even to help me with an exit interview. it is now 5 months since I officially stopped taking classes and still nothing. only the career adviser dept has contacted me. It is sad. I had hoped someone would reach out.

I love this school. It helped me with a lot especially with further my education. They gave me a lot of assistance in helping me through this journey. I am truly grateful to have my career advice Kindra Q. Even when I was admitting into the school someone helped me through everything. I loved it. I want to thank everyone that had to put up with me but truly blessed. The courses were easy but understandable. I dislike some of the discussions questions or the fact it was so many. I hate it's so many different people for different things I only see it through my emails I wish someone would call me and let me know about the different things going on with or at the school.

I really enjoyed the process of going through school. I loved majority of my professors and was able to create relationships with some of them. There were some who did not return an email, there were some that would not really explain a process when I didn’t understand, instead they had me review the live lecture which I had already done so. The daily checkpoints were too much to remember, I felt that we should’ve been graded for attendance based on our discussion posts instead. My classmates were not really engaging making it hard for me to expand my knowledge and really bond with them. My fsa was okay, she typically would call and maybe spend 5 minutes on the phone and when asked about scholar ships she was not helpful at all. Other then the few things I’ve pointed out everything else was great. I am disappointed I did not get the chance to travel to Utah for the residency and don’t feel like I had much hands on as I should’ve making it harder to start a job without hands on training. Additionally, I believe the residency is apart of tuition and since I did not get that chance I believe the cost could be deducted from my overall tuition.

This has been a great place. I had so much help from the beginning. I did not think I would like online school, but it was worth experiencing. I had help from teachers among others. I asked a lot of questions and it has helped me. I did not think I would get such good grades. Thank you.

Independence University was very instrumental in providing e with an education that would advance my career goals substantially. I applaud them for their effeciency and professionalism!!!

Even though i couldnt be at the physically. They did a great job online making sure you understand and make sure you have Access to the help you need. I loved it

I loved this University and will tell all of my family and friends about it. I was able to do a great job with my degree with this school and was able to get a job not long after finishing my degree too.

Enjoyed the experience overall. My student advisor was amazing.

At first like any one that had no experience with college or online schooling, it was a bit scary. But after a month of getting used to everything you roll along just fine. Its prefect to have 4 weeks per class. It makes the journey go by even faster. If i could go back in time, i would do all over again

Independence University is a great college. This school has people that are there and have your best interest at heart. They want to see you succeed and will do their best to give you all the tools need for you to reach your goal. There are many people from the tutors, to the instructors, to your financial aid officer, to your career counselor and the Dean of over the area of degree you have chosen to pursue are always there to help you.

So, if anyone wants to or is interested in furthering their education I would highly recommend Independence University. If you apply yourself you will succeed with everything that is offered here.

The instructor here are great. They helped me when needed. The college itself was terrible. They lie about grants, they lied about my clinical (which I had a person I was doing an externship with inform me that her and others from my area went to their clinical to get their hands on experience) and they don't send you money that belongs to you. When I questioned them on where the money going they switch me to someone else. They claim you'll get a family grant for family members who attend college with you husband attended and was getting his family grant but I never received mine.Far as learning experience I learn a little while there but I got most of my knowledge from doing an externship which I'm glad the clinic let me continue to come and get more knowledge, hours, and more hands on skills as a MA. Oh yeah they was awesome on sending the laptop and tablet (which didn't pick up internet anymore after I got my laptop)... I also had great student advisor who understood my concerns... Just had bad and lying financial planners who I felt was taking my money and pocketing it.....
