Intentional Product Manager Avis 

I’m not one for reviews, positive or negative.. however, given the monumental shifts I’ve noticed in myself after attending IPM’s product leader blueprint program, I felt it was my duty to inform my fellow PMs to sign up for this program.

If I’m honest, I came to the program pretty broken, I lost so much confidence over the years, and was considering pivoting to a different career all together. After early success at the start of my PM career, I felt tired, unseen, not valued, not heard… I felt completely lost.. This investment in my product management career was my last hurrah, and boy am I glad I did it. I 1000% have my confidence back, AND was able to highlight my worth through TWO career moves during the course of the program.

You’ll learn how to tap into yourself, and shine as a product leader. The team at IPM has put together a very thoughtful program, one that just doesn’t focus on purely academic product content.. I mean let’s face it, You can 100% find similar content online, possibly even for free. But it’s how it all comes together, especially the mindfulness aspects of the program; that make a huge difference. It’s also amazing to be learning side by side countless other PMs, from a wide range of backgrounds, most of not all from highly respect companies.

If you’re on the fence, I get it.. it’s hard to shell out money like this.. but I implore you, to look beyond the he typical PM content that’s out there, and realize that to truly become a leader in this field; you will need to totally shift your mindset… THIS is that IPM will do for you..

Word of caution.. you WILL need to do work, what you put into this program is what you get from it. There is no magic pill.

Thanks to IPM, my self framing has changed dramatically. If I was unsure how to position myself on the job market before, now I'm in a job that I love and I feel like I have the key for future success. I'm very grateful to have overcome my concerns about the value of this program and I highly recommend it to any Product Manager or aspiring Product Manager!

Thanks to the Intentional Job Search program, I landed my first product management role.

My roadblock was that I had worked in fields related to product management but never as a product manager.

Sam and Shobhit helped me tell the story to land this role. They guided me through the interview process, enabled me to improve my communication skills, and practiced my interviews until I was good to go! I now could tell my story so much more effectively, and I gained the confidence that I could overcome the obstacle of not having a PM title before.

When I joined Product Leader Blueprint, I was seeking confidence in my skills as a product manager, primarily how I communicated and came across every day.

I used to take personal responsibility for every fire I was fighting.

I felt stuck in my career.

I thought I needed to get an MBA - that seemed to be the “well-lit path” but because of various personal commitments it was not an option.

Shobhit’s videos and LinkedIn messages struck a chord with me and speaking with Shobhit convinced me that joining Product Leader Blueprint would give me targeted knowledge that I wouldn’t get from an MBA.

I hired my first direct report at the same time I started the program and quickly began to notice my confidence rise as I went through the curriculum.

I loved the group calls and learned a lot from other product managers. The calls had a multiplier effect on what I was learning and gave me a chance to hear how others dealt with the same situations I encountered.

I now lead a three-person team, and we are known as the highest performing team at the company.

As a result of what I learned I got a promotion I’ve been working towards for a long time to Director of Product Management. But, not just that–I was also made Head of Product for all 4 sister companies and will soon be adding four more people to my team.

I wouldn’t be where I am right now without the program, and I am grateful for everything I have learned!

I encourage everyone to take this program no matter how long you have been in product management. Even though I’ve been in product management for a number of years, I would have benefited even more if I had done this program two years into my product management career.

I joined the program when I started my job search. The coaches helped me understand the interview expectations for the Product Management role, especially at FAANG companies. Before I joined the program, I felt that I lacked the discipline to land this role. I wanted to find something that would give me a step-by-step approach to transition into product management.

I did some certifications, and they helped convince me that the product management role was the right choice as the next step in my career. I also looked through videos and blogs. However, I struggled with articulating myself in my interviews, and I could not communicate what I knew. Certifications were excellent, but they did not give me the direct feedback I needed or encouragement to succeed.

Before I joined IJS, I was an accomplished product manager. I followed the latest trends in product management; connected to all the most outstanding product leaders in the community. However, I had struggled in interviews and failed many times to land my dream roles at companies like Google. These reasons prompted me to join this program.

I got structured feedback about my mock interviews week over week in the program. As a result, I was able to get input on structural problems in my thinking.

Previously, I had done packages of interviews from other sites, and it seemed that every time I was getting the same high-level feedback based on the first impression of me.

IJS’s distinctions made a massive difference for me.

Another significant benefit was that I got direct feedback on other aspects ranging from positioning the camera and microphone, taking notes, communicating, and overcoming the unconscious habits that made me appear less competent than I was.

When I joined the Intentional Job Search program, I sought to transition into my first Tech Product Manager role.

After self-introspection, I was 100% clear about what I wanted; I sought out mentors. I was heavily influenced by Shobhit’s posts and felt he knew what he was talking about.

Intentional Job Search helped me transition effectively to a Senior Product Manager role. Some parts of the program surprised me a lot, including how important and influential it was working with Sam to build out my story and the supportive community part of the program.

I improved continuously through the program. I went from no interviews to landing so many interviews that I did not have time for all of them, then advancing to second rounds, and then getting multiple offers. The program coaches personally supported me through each step.

I used to think that getting a Product Management role was about knowing everything PMs are supposed to do. Through the program. After officially being a product manager for three years and having several previous positions that were very related, I decided to seek out some additional guidance to step up my game.

I was leading a team of almost thirty people and paving a new path forward for my company, but I was questioning what impact I wanted to make and how to grow in a faster and more intentional way. My biggest problem was the feeling of no control. I watched my days start with exhaustion and end with that same fatigue. I recently graduated from Intentional Job Search program having landed a PM role at my target company, which specializes in consumer electronics. The program structure, mock interviews from current PM's and coaches' guidance is the key differentiator compared to other PM programs. I arrived at IPM seeking answers on how I might be seen as a business leader vs. an individual contributor. I felt that I had made the strides necessary to master core PM skills in my role, however, my team members and managers still saw me as too junior. As a PM with more than 5 years of PM and 4 years of engineering experience, I was frustrated at not being able to get to the next level despite having the skills and knowledge of my domain.

With this specific problem in mind, I approached Shobhit who helped me dissect the issue over 10 weeks in the IPM program. Through group sessions and dedicated 1:1s, I discovered that influence was a growth area for me. Shobhit helped me identify the behaviors that led to the dissonance I was experiencing. There are SO many programs and courses about product management, that it becomes difficult to make a decision: "Is this the right one for me?" "Is the investment worth it?" "Will it help achieve my goals?".

When I joined IPM, I was skeptical like many others. I had no idea who Shobhit and Sam were, and I did not know others who were part of the program. They have a structured outline for the course, and dedicate time for you to work with them 1:1. Their guidance has been very valuable, and will significantly boost your confidence. If you are prepared to give your 100% and work hard, the chances to succeed is high and will be worth the effort.

When I started working with Sam and Shobhit, I was aiming for a senior-level product management position. I started two companies, and my career had seen its fair share of achievements. I am a Senior Product Manager at VMware. In previous roles, before finding Intentional Product Manager, I found myself waking up and staring at the ceiling for fifteen minutes or so. I knew that fifteen minutes would be the only stress-free, unscheduled, unprioritized time I would get until the next day when I laid there all over again. I felt like I have to say “yes” to everything and found myself stuck in a cycle of constant overwhelm. There were never enough hours in the day. I knew there had to be a better way.

Within the first five minutes of class, Shobhit allowed us to step back and evaluate ourselves. I knew at this moment that I had found the better way. My day-to-day life before Intentional Product Manager was all over the place. It was early in my product management career and I was learning several new things, but I did not fully have my house in order. I said yes to everything and was still not seeing any legitimate results.

Intentional Product Manager changed the way I manage and plan. I learned how to reduce the number of meetings I had on my calendar. I also learned how to increase the engagement in the meetings I was keeping on my calendar. I essentially learned how to create more time in my day-to-day schedule.

One thing I will say to anyone contemplating Intentional Product Manager:
It is easy to settle into a cycle where you are on autopilot. You need something different to break that routine. This program will do just that. It will give you the impetus and the awareness you need to ask the right questions. More importantly, it will provide you with the practice you need to implement those changes.

When I found this program, my biggest challenge was not fully knowing what to do. I lacked confidence and knew without a doubt that I needed to seek out training and mentorship. I wanted to be the best I could be, and I knew this program would help get me there.

Most product managers would agree that this career can be an overwhelming one. I felt that the job was managing me rather than the other way around. I felt like a firefighter and had several conversations with myself, asking if I was even fighting the correct fires.

Before I joined Intentional Program Manager, I was in a decent position. I had a job that paid okay, but I had a strong desire to move and be a "real PM".

But my approach was more spontaneous and “go with the flow.” Because of this approach, I did not see a significant result. I needed to take it to the next level, but I did not know exactly how to achieve this result.
