Journey Japan eSIM Avis 

We spent 2 weeks in japan travelling around the country Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and the esim worked perfectly with 5g internet. Easy to set up before arriving to japan and once I landed turn off flight mode and switch the sim on in the settings.

Went from Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Was amazed at how well it worked anywhere I went! Will def be using it again the next time I go

Genuinely incredibly happy with my experience using this e-sim. I had great service all around and it was easy to set up at home, before I boarded my flight. I stayed in Tokyo, Nara, Kyoto and Osaka, and had absolutely no issues. Bonus points for the great travel tips on the YouTube channel!

I left Australia with the ESim already paid for. The advice was to connect in Japan. With some helpful advice from the information desk at Narita Airport the ESim was up and running.
After that it never let me down. Not needing to worry about credit or how much I was using my phone was brilliant. I did have inside knowledge though as my sons have been going to Japan every year for the past 7 years.
They reminded me about switching sims somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. Easy as!
My sons had dreams of going to live in Japan semi permanently in a few years. Currently I think that dream has been smashed.

Once we got it to work, it worked flawlessly. There were a few gaps in the instructions on installation and usage that don't make it a 5-star for me. Or they weren't dummy proof enough for me.

Such as how to make it work when you've never used an eSIM before, and it looked like old info was still used in the instructions.
Scanning the QR code activates the SIM even if you can't connect it. The mention of the code was never used and embedded into the QR code; it didn't seem clear to me reading through the instructions. At least it started to count down on my phone even tho no connection to Japanese services could be made. Luckily, I anticipated this and activated it close to departure just in that scenario.

Also, my normal SIM had to be on, but roaming was shut off, and the Japan eSIM was set as the main. I didn't know this either and had my SIM shut off at first.
Another point was when in Japan and connected to the airports wifi I couldn't get it to work and connect until I had restarted my phone. Looking through various general advice regarding eSIM usage on Google, we found this out. After that, it worked flawlessly.

We were in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka and Fukusaki. No issues whatsoever. The calculation in my phone's settings and on the website for data usage was correct as well, making it easy to track how much data I had used/had left.
I could even hotspot my friend who couldn't use an eSIM on his phone. Since the hotspot worked so well, we didn't bother to get a physical SIM for him and I was his personal pocket wifi instead.

If the instructions were a bit more made for dummies like me, it'd be 5 stars easily. That tiny sliver of stress at the very beginning could have been avoided. Or a video on the progress to watch would be helpful too; I couldn't find any.

I don't know if the issues I encountered were due to me being from Sweden and not a native English speaker, so I misunderstood the instructions; if they were not up to date; if they looked different because of different Android versions and hardware; or because all my gear is from Sweden. So ye, I suggest a video showing a full installation process. Or even a more dumbed down instruction on how-to.

After trying to research which eSIM would be the best option and stumbling across uncountable websites trying to look like comparison charts only to promote their own eSIM and then finding one star reviews covered under soulless five star reviews, I followed my heart and the enjoyment of reading Chris`s book „Abroad in Japan“ and felt like he would not stand for an eSIM with his name and YouTube channel if this would be bad. So, got the eSIM for 14 days unlimited and uncapped and what can I say; get it for your Japan holiday. The set up via the QR was done before our baggage arrived at the airport and I had full coverage and high speed internet all the time!

Super easy to buy, comes straight to your emailbox. Easy set up and off you go. Had a great trip travelling the cities and the nature in Hokkaido with no problems with the connection of this esim.

Absolutely lovely, best on the market. Take this and never worry again!

We honestly had great sim coverage in even the most remote places we visited in Tohoku for our holidays, plus we enjoyed a discount at Lost Bar. We didn't need an unlimited data plan, but the 20gb option had a good price if you consider it has better service than competitors.

The only hang-up was the set -up, it somehow was a bit less smooth than expected (we didn't get data from the get-go), fixing the APN port which did not have the correct data from the automatic installation was not that difficult.

Appart from this small hiccup, I can wholeheartedly reccomend it.

The whole experience was really easy and the signal was excellent, even when up a mountain road. Really appreciated the extra benefits too (such as money off in the Lost Bar). Would thoroughly recommend!

I set everything up before my flight to Japan, and as soon as I landed, I was connected right away—even before getting through border control. It worked like a charm in the chilly winter of Sapporo all the way to the bustling heart of Osaka. No issues at all; way better and easier than other brands I’ve tried before, and the pricing is pretty solid too.

The service overall is great and when I had a bit of an issue setting up the eSIM, they were quick to reply and even sent me a detailed instructions manual with all the possible causes of my issue.

I bought into a Japan eSim last year Sept 2025. Despite all the great talk from Chris on his Youtube channel and other kind of advertisements, the eSim was an absolute flop! I followed the instructions at that time down to the last detail possible; yet, doing so revealed a flaw for most travelers going to Japan. At that time the instruction’s best recommendation was to set up your eSim while in Japan as getting it set up in your home country would potentially cause some issues. Well, the absolute down side was that while being in Japan as a foreigner, there WILL NOT BE ANY stable public WiFi available to you. To have any kind of stable WiFi connection, you’d have to have your own home and set up or know a friend like good ol’chubs Chris Broad. I had the courage to ask for the WiFi code at a couple restaurants with stable WiFi for the set up, but was flat out refused (of course…). I ended up buying a physical prepaid sim card, with 10GB data at a BicCamera. To be fair, my brother got the same eSim and had more problems with it, even after getting a stable WiFi connection at one of the hotels we stayed at. The point is that this card absolutely lacks convenience for the traveler landing into Haneda or Narita airport and expect to use their Japan eSim immediately. Don’t test your luck. Just get the prepaid physical sim card (assuming that your phone still has the slot for one - mine did thankfully). The physical prepaid sim card from BicCamera saved the day on the success of my trip that year. Yes, this is a dated review, but I am writing it still hoping that things have improved. Please look into the instructions prior to purchasing. If the instructions are still the same, well maybe avoid Japan eSim and just get the prepaid one at the airport upon landing. Avoid even if Chris tempts you with a free drink at his speak easy like establishment. They may not be open everyday and you may be SOL even cashing in on the free or discounted drink if you purchase this tourist trap eSim.

Was super easy to install and for the first time in my life I saw 5G+, didn't even know you could have plus. Will definitely use next time I'm in Japan.

We used the e-sim on our last trip to Japan. Manly because of Chris. We love his YouTube channel and decided to support him. The sim is easy to install and we never had any issues. It will be our go to for japan trips from now on. Great work Abroad team.

Internet access was perfect all the time and really fast there were no problems connecting at all and I even enjoyed 500yen off my Too Much Volcano at Lost bar. Would buy this again.

This worked as soon as we stepped off the plane. Then worked perfectly everywhere we went, from Tokyo to Okinawa and even in rural areas. Wouldn't use anything else if we go to Japan again.

Absolutely disgusted...... that this eSIM worked so well. Damn! Installed the eSIM in the UK and then activated once I landed in Japan. Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka - not one problem with signal or data. I was hoping for a grumpy experience but never got one.

Reliable coverage, one spec mismatch — but excellent support

I used the 50GB Japan plan for a three-week family trip. Coverage was genuinely
solid everywhere we went, including rural areas, and I never ran out of data.

Two things didn't work at the start: personal hotspot was unavailable on the line,
and the usage counter wasn't updating. Support replied quickly and both were sorted.

My one real complaint is 5G. The plan is advertised as 5G / 4G & LTE, but my phone
stayed on LTE for the entire trip, while other providers used by my family showed 5G
on the same routes. LTE was fast enough for everyday use, but it wasn't what the
product page promised.

What stands out is how they handled it. They didn't brush the issue aside, they
reviewed the case properly and resolved it fairly. That level of customer service is
rare, thank you for that.

I had some initial connection issues after arriving and activating the eSim which ended up being user error by not choosing an APN (if anyone else gets this issue). However I emailed the support team at 1700 on a weekday and they got straight back to me with troubleshooting and now the service is working amazing. Thanks for the support! Highly recommend.
