I used Morningstar for about two years, and overall my experience was mixed. On the positive side, it did help me discover Lithium Argentina, which turned out to be a very profitable investment in a company I had never heard of.
That said, this was the main standout benefit for me. While the platform is decent for researching businesses, much of the core financial information (like balance sheets) is available for free elsewhere.
In the end, Morningstar didn’t offer enough additional value to keep me as a long-term subscriber. It’s a solid tool, but depending on your needs, you may find similar information without the subscription.

If you're a Morningstar fan using Safari on a Mac, then BUYER BEWARE! Sure you could switch to Google Chrome, but maybe you're like me and feel that Safari is safer.
Safari may be "safer" for privacy and security reasons, but if the data you're getting from Morningstar is completely INACCURATE then you're not safe at all!
I apologize for the length of this review but the situation I'm about to reveal IS very nuanced. If I could attach a screenshot it would be so much easier but I don't see a way to do that so I'm going to try to tell you how to best replicate the situation I'm describing.
I learned this the hard way: I used Morningstar stats to make my buying and selling decisions which I then executed on the Vanguard website; only later to discover the errors. Some costly. My own fault, for sure. But I was relying on paid-for data from a reputable company.
Keep in mind my specifics as you read along in the event your situation may be different.
I use the most up-to-date version of Safari on a bought-new, one-year old MacBook Air. (I can't speak to the mobile app.)
Try this experiment to see if you may have fallen victim to any of these INACCURATE DATA situations....
1. On Morningstar's website set up a few Watchlists with a variety of STOCKS from different industries. Because mutual funds and ETFs are less volatile, use only stocks for this experiment. (The more securities you add the better chance you will have to discover what inaccuracies I'm referring to.)
2. SAVE a "view" which includes a MINIMUM of THESE SIX CATEGORIES within your customizable columns:
A.) PREVIOUS CLOSE
B.) OPEN PRICE
C.) ONE DAY LOW
D.) ONE DAY HIGH
E.) LAST PRICE
F.) DAY CHANGE %
3. Log in the next morning and take a look. Look closely because it's easy to miss if you have a lot of securities included. What are you looking for? It's subtle, until you begin to recognize its horrifying frequency.
4. Look for stocks that show a POSITIVE % change for the day when the PREVIOUS CLOSE stated is actually HIGHER than the LAST PRICE stated. And vice-versa. Look for securities which show a NEGATIVE % change for the day when the PREVIOUS CLOSE stated is LOWER than the LAST PRICE.
5. And it's not just those two examples, if you look closely and actually do the math. Those are just the obvious ones, but there are more. Oh yes, there are more...
For example, you may see a stock showing a POSITIVE 5% change so far today when the PREVIOUS CLOSE for said stock was $123, but it's LAST PRICE states: $123.04. Yes, that's a POSITIVE % change, but it's nowhere close to being accurate! Likewise, for the negative. A stock showing a NEGATIVE 2.2% change may have a PREVIOUS CLOSE of $123, but it's LAST PRICE states: $81. Again, these are harder to notice until you begin looking for them, as I did.
6. Check for this over a period of a few days/ weeks using the same terms I've outlined and I guarantee you will begin to spot these types of inaccuracies. In fact, you will be SHOCKED to discover how often it happens. Unfortunately, while there are consistently inaccuracies under this scenario, the inaccuracies themselves are inconsistent.
I have at least a dozen WATCHLISTS established on Morningstar with anywhere from 20- 45 securities on each and this situation happens to me EVERY SINGLE DAY. I can no longer trust them for data. And I can't predict where the inaccurate data will be from one day to the next.
And before you start to think I'm just some cranky lady out to write a bad review, consider this...
7) Since at LEAST October of 2025 (and this is March 2026) I have been emailing Morningstar with screenshots (date and time-stamped, of course) pointing out these issues. In the beginning, I was repeatedly told: refresh your screen; log out and log back in; clear your cache and cookies, until I went postal on them, claiming no one was listening to me.
Some time in January I got aligned with a particular person who began telling me they were working on it. Weeks passed, so I sent another email. The follow-up said: We're working on it.
I have since sent at LEAST another dozen emails with screenshots supporting my claims only to be told the same thing each time. So.... I HAVE tried to work things out with them. I have demanded a refund for my last subscription which I only renewed in December because I had reason to believe I was finally being taken seriously. As of today, March 11, 2026, they are still telling me they are working on it and expect to have it fixed "by the end of the week."

Tried to help friend set up portfolio on new platform. Not at all intuitive and very difficult to understand way too many options. The old legacy platform which I have is so much easier to use and gives us retail investors all the data we need easily accessible. Unfortunately Morningstar is only focused on a product for the professional sophisticated investor. I can no longer recommend Morningstar as a valuable tool to friends who are retail investors. If Morningstar was smart they would offer 2 products ….with the new platform being the product for a very seasoned and or investment professional. A product similar to the legacy platform for the average retail investor. Need to hire a marketing director who understands the entire investor marketplace and invest in some focus groups!

Il sito è peggiorato in modo drammatico, ormai le informazioni su fondi e ETF sono ridotte al lumicino, la ricerca è complicatissima, la maggior parte dei prodotti non è coperta dagli analisti. Peccato, un tempo era il TOP!

The reviews of individual stocks, funds and ETFs are good. Their suggestions for investing are so-so, touting a good dividend payor who hasn't increased its divdend in years! But the real problem is function of their website -too often slow as molasses, some parts not working or providing very incomplete data. They badly need to upgrade or change their provider.

Simply the best data provider and client portfolio management tools. More features, more innovations, and great integration. Also, no one in the business has a better trained staff. ALL for a very fair price.
Can't trust their published article as a scammer published a clone company website of Research Vision Limited. Which was confirmed as a scam by their owners.
Please take responsibility of the lost investment which utilised your Platform to host their article with names of Researchvision.com scam domain.
I have sent you details about the scam over your complaint email. Please share details about the scammer who published the article.
Very bad and disappointed. Fair value estimate does not provide any alpha. The portfolio monitoring tool is not working well, especially following introduction of new design.

I have been a paid subscriber for years. Their fund analysis has been my go-to guide for fund purchases. The problem with the company is their website. It is infuriatingly frustrating to use- its portfolio manager is broken over 50% of time when I want to use it. It lags the market by many, many minutes, sometime by hours. It is essentially useless. I had to go to other tools to see my portfolio during the day and see MS portfolio at end of the day! I have been providing my feedback to them but got no response. Today is Sunday, and I went to their site. Guess what? MS Portfolio is down! That is my last straw. I am cancelling.

Many of their features are nice. However, many of those do NOT actually work. Several of brokerage accounts do not sync with their investor account though those brokerage accounts do sync with other sites. These problems keep on repeating and they just can't fix it!

Sito diventato totalmente inutile. Addio Morningstar.

I love reading the replies to users who are really angry. It reminds me of the recorded phone responses that users get from banks and other such organisation. The replies always start off with "Thank you for taking the time........" Morningstar - keep up the good work with your responses. AI generated?
Poor fact sheet and product risk transparency e.g. if filtering on global fixed interest products, in most cases cannot see in what countries the “global” bonds are issued and the denominated currency. With the increasing risk of U.S. 38T debt and USD imploding this is of huge importance but Morningstar seems asleep at the wheel.

These people are as close to inbred as you can get. They have a website that does not show the funds for sale. Great job! When I go to an investment website, I want to see the investment opportunities. I have no idea who in the entire world wants to see all the junk on your website when investors can't even find your funds. There's no possible way I will ever do business with you. How are you even selling?

Watch out for these cons and crooks. They continue to charge my credit card for services I cancelled. After calling to complain, they prorated my account for 1 month's usage despite the fact I had not logged in for years. Employees working for Morningstar deserve jail time.
