Proven Data LLC Avis 

So, I came across Proven Data Recovery on the brink of a total breakdown. Coming from a somewhat tech background, I tried everything I could to get my hard drive to turn on with no luck. I called their 24 hr emergency number and basically was routed to a call center.

After giving all my information, I finally get a follow up e-mail a day later. They outline their potential costs and let you know they have an office near you. After one last ditch effort to recover the data on my own, I scheduled a time to go to their office the drop it off since their security is really tight at their Boston office.

I get to the Boston office only to find out that no work is done there. They have a receptionist there, she takes your drive and ships it out.

After a couple of days, I get an e-mail saying they got my drive and will begin working on it. Everything was real professional in regards to signing forms and such. In about 48 hours, they replied back that they could in fact recover the data and had 3 options in terms of price and speed which varies depending on how bad I needed it. I needed it back quickly so I chose the middle option which was somewhat affordable and about 3-7 business days. I figured I could wait that long.

4 business days later, I nervously call to get an update. I speak with someone and they tell me that I have the standard service. I get upset. He puts me on hold and says now he's going to put it on a emergency status and get 2 techs on it. Ok great I think. I might get my data back in a few days.

After a couple of days, they update me on their progress. "Replaced heads twice, imaged most of the drive." Ok, I'm feeling confident now.

2 days later, no luck. The drive is not recoverable and if I want my drive back, then I have to pay the return shipping. That's fine. No recovery, no fee. It's only fair I return pay shipping. 9 day total turnaround from when they received my drive to tell me they can't do anything.

Fast forward to today, I receive my data back from anther company. It took them 8 days on the turnaround time and it's in my google drive. I'm sure Proven Data Recovery can do what they say, but they couldn't for me. I'm sure different companies use different methods

Overall, I'm not mad at them, because in the end they may have different methods on data recovery. What works for 1 drive may not necessarily work for another drive.

Update: I spoke with Mark and Victor at Proven Data Recovery and they wanted to express their sincerest apologies that they were that they weren't able to recover the data. They have never been unsuccessful in recovering data just to have it recovered elsewhere. I didn't think I would hear from them and it just shows that they are committed to an excellent customer experience.

I was in touch with these guys for a long time, mostly just procrastinating, for some reason. They stayed in touch, and finally I decided to let them help. My computer was hacked, not ONE file was readable, the hackers encrypted every single file. It was a disaster! PDR said they could do decrypt them, and assured me if they could not, that they would not charge me. They would only charge me if they could decrypt them all. I did what they said to do, they accessed my computer and did EXACTLY what they said they would do, decrypted every single file, and I had all my files back! I was extremely relieved and happy! They then even gave me a day or two to check everything over before they actually billed and charged me. I have absolutely nothing bad to say. They were also in touch almost constantly, never had to wait long for an answer to one of my many questions. Absolutely would recommend these guys and would tell anyone out there to trust them and let them do their job, they're very good at it! Thank you PDR!!!

I was lucky enough to be hit with Zepto ransomware. PDR recovered all of my files, almost 15000. The price they charge for their services seems high, but it was worth it to me. It would have taken me several hundred hours to rebuild all of my files from backups and from scratch. The only complaint that I have is for better communication from PDR. PDR remotes into your computer to recover files, which is very unnerving after being hit with ransomware. I felt violated by the ransomware criminals, and then to have a different company poking around into your computer can be unsettling, especially when you don't know when exactly they are there. PDR also installed different software on my computer to compress and transmit files for recovery. More communication as to exactly when they were taking over the computer, what exactly they were doing, and why they were doing it, and what they were leaving behind would have been appreciated. Overall I would highly recommend this company if you are attacked by ransomware criminals.

Well worth the price! Had a particularly nasty case of ransomware but they solved all my problems. Excellent communication and great work!

The team is very responsive and they deliver decent service. To some, their rate might be a bit high. But if your lost data are of great importance, then their rate might be fair.

The "locky" ransomware paid my computer a visit. Local data recovery group was not able to crack the encryption, and many sources advised "just pay the criminals their ransom demand - only way you will get access to those files again".

I first made a few calls, did some research on the web...you know, all the usual stuff, when I came across Proven Data Recovery. I called for info and everyone was not only helpful, but understanding as well. I delivered my toasted drive and they took care of the rest. When searching for a reputable company to recover our encrypted databases, Proven Data Recovery stood out on the BBB website. Even with that positive recommendation though, I was still nervous about our banking account numbers in someone else's hands. I had the opportunity to work with Mark who was well spoken and made me feel like I was able to trust him as we worked together to recover the encrypted data. Did it work? To our joy it did and we are back up and running like nothing ever happened.

If there was a 4.5 option on this review I would have chosen that for the honest fact that communication was the only flaw in the relationship. I struggled in the beginning to get answers at times which made me feel uneasy about getting into the relationship. On the website I was never able to get the Live Chat to work and the hours of operation show up different in different spots. Whenever I called the phone support number, I found that during the process, selecting the first option was the only way to get someone right away and all the other options went to voicemail. I was also tentative about giving my credit card number, even though they said it would not be charged until we were fully satisfied with the end recovery, before actually speaking with someone. One of the online forms didn't work properly which also made me question what I was getting into. My final hesitation to share was that an appointment was missed and I couldn't get anyone to get back to me for a day.

But I want to end my comments with the very positive stuff. When I was indeed able to speak with Mark, we worked very well together to figure out exactly what was infected and what needed to be done. We successfully retrieved the data in the time agreed upon. That's the best and most important part. We had 5 days to verify the data before the card was charged for their services.
