Finding the perfect roomie can be tough. We recommend the tips below to help you find the best roommate in the least amount of time:
1. Put as much detail into your profile as possible. This will make sure that the matches you receive are the most compatible. Also, don't forget pics! Profiles with good pictures tend to get more views and messages.
2. Use the "Search" option to find additional matches that are a little broader, but might be a good fit as well.
3. Message all of your matches! Getting in touch with as many good matches as possible is hands-down the best way to find a roomie quickly, as they will be notified whenever a message lands in their inbox.
4. Once you notice that you have some messages in your inbox, consider becoming a VIP member so you can unlock what potential matches are sending.

Great Rental Resource!!!!!!!
I loved the expectations on both sides were shown and the clear communication between the renter and people needing a room. The anonymous communication was perfect then, when the relationship was more comfortable, phone numbers and even home visits took place. I also loved Roommates.com to be able to weed out the flakey or (secretive) creepy/undesirable renters so quickly! Yes I found a great renter, fast!

I would've gone to roommates.com initially if I had known it was only six dollars for a whole month. Do not use craigslist to find a roommate. It is nothing but scam scam scam.

Finding a roommate can be really challenging. We strongly encourage all users to complete ID verification if possible, as it is a way to communicate to others that you are being transparent and serious about finding a roommate. We give the option to search for ID verified users to increase the possibility of finding a serious roommate.
Here are some additional tips to assist in making the most out of Roommates.com.
1. Start with Your Matches. Your Match List, accessible from the "Matches" tab in your account, was created based on the profile criteria you provided. If possible, we recommend broadening your preferences in order to increase your Matches. Check out our Edit Your Profile Help Center article for instructions if necessary.
2. Use the "Search" Page. This page allows for a broader search based on fewer criteria, showing profiles that may not be "Perfect Matches" but are still looking for roommates in your area.
3. Engage Through the Message Center. We recommend sending messages to all members on your Match List and using the Search page to connect with more potential roommates.
4. Upload Photos. Many members prefer to connect with profiles that include photos. For guidance, see our Help Center article on photo uploads.

I have used Roommates.com several times over the years. I recently tried another service, in addition to Roommates.com and regretted wasting my money and time. Roommates.com is the ONLY service I have seen that contacts you when you have messages from matches. You do NOT have to spend hours searching for potential candidates. Also, the website is user friendly, responsive and allows you to communicate safely with potential roommates within the website. Will use it again when I have a vacancy.

Beware of the unsafe practices of this site!
Roommates.com does not check the people posting in their site. I moved in with an elderly lady I met through here who had severe mental issues and was lucky to get out of her home quickly and find an alternate living situation. I’ve learned the importance of doing a background check on the landlords renting a room and will never use a site such as this one again to find a rental.
