I chose this company after finding them…
I chose this company after finding them on a comparison site. They matched my requirements and were affordable, which made them an easy choice. The policy documents and Schedule of Insurance provided when cover is arranged explain the overall veterinary fee benefit, alongside the inner limits and contributions that may apply. These documents can also be shared with a veterinary practice before treatment; however, we do understand the concerns you have raised.
Some veterinary fees are subject to specific inner limits. These can include external laboratory work, specialist or referral consultations and certain types of diet food. The diet-food benefit applies specifically to food prescribed by a vet to dissolve bladder stones or crystals in the urine, rather than general or supplementary food products.
Our policies also include a 100% mark-up allowance for medication, meaning we cover veterinary medication charges up to twice the standard cost. This safeguard helps protect all policyholders from unusually high veterinary pricing, which could otherwise increase claim costs and place further pressure on premiums.
Depending on the cover selected when a policy is arranged, a compulsory excess and co-payment may also contribute to the difference between the amount claimed and the final reimbursement.
We appreciate that several deductions applying within one claim can result in a significant difference from the original invoice submitted, however we hope this provides some helpful context, and of course, we’re always happy to discuss an individual claim privately in more detail if you need to.

Easy and straightforward claim
This was my first claim with Scratch & Patch and it was very easy, they kept me up to day and a very positive result. It was quiet a large amount for an emergency with our dog, so had been a concern if were covered.

Scratch and Patch were excellent
Scratch and Patch customer service were very helpful and pleasant when I needed to ask a couple of questions and they happily dealt directly with my vet to settle the claim which is what you need at a very difficult time. Highly recommend them. My vets also speak highly of them too!

Been with scratch and patch for several years I found that their prices are good but most of all when I've had to use them to claim for my pet then they been great straight forward claim process after the initial form that's basically it they and your vet take over and the claim was sorted both times very quickly

Lack of communication regarding details of renewal
On receiving a renewal notice (which outlined a 25% increase in premium), after phoning customer services and then undertaking further research, I sent an email two weeks ago asking for some specific answers that had arisen from the small print in the renewal policy wording. Having had no response, I received notification of my renewal. When I called to explain my disappointment, there seemed to be no corporate responsibility for the lack of communication, and I was also informed that my excess would be subject to a 125% increase during the cover period. This was one of the specific questions I had asked in writing.
As a result, my experience of renewal is somewhat concerning.
Thank you for responding to my review. I can confirm that I have now received written answers to my questions. It would, however, have been helpful to receive these before my policy renewed (considering I emailed my questions on 11th August and did not receive any response until I phoned again two weeks later, on 25th August). With reference to your reply about the excess due on my policy not being a 125% increase, forgive me - my Maths was wrong. My current excess due is £125 and this will increase to £275 on my dog's 8th birthday. Therefore, it is not a 125% increase...but a 225% increase in the excess due.....and this was one of the specific questions I had asked after reading the small print in your policy.

We’re sorry to hear how disappointed you’ve been with your renewal, particularly while you were still waiting for a response to the questions you’d sent in.
We can see that you spoke with us on 11 August about the 25% increase and the options available to help reduce your renewal premium. One of those options was adding a 20% co-pay, meaning you would contribute 20% towards the remaining eligible vet fees should you need to claim. This would be in addition to your compulsory excess, which remains £125 per condition, per policy year while your pet is under 8 years old. To clarify, this is a £125 standard excess and not a 125% increase.
Renewal premiums are reviewed each year using the most up-to-date information available to us. This includes the overall level of risk associated with a particular breed, along with the frequency and cost of claims we are seeing across that breed as a whole. As those trends can change over time, the level of risk attached to a breed can also change from one year to the next, which can then be reflected in the renewal premium. This forms part of how insurers make sure pricing continues to reflect the level of cover and risk being insured.
We do appreciate that you also took the time to put your questions to us in writing. While a number of these points were discussed during your call, we can see from today’s update that a member of our Customer Service team will be responding to your email so you have those answers confirmed in writing too.

Good service, very friendly staff
I have an elderly dog undergoing treatment at the moment and is ongoing
I have been really pleased with the service from this company. The claim was sorted in around 3 weeks. I did have some questions and i got through quickly (by telephone) and all questions were answered promptly, which is not so often the case nowadays.
Not everything was covered as i needed but insurance is often a learning curve.
For the price i pay monthly i cant complain
