Bad delivery

Our delivery service is kerbside only, and this is clearly stated at checkout, along with the requirement for assistance with unloading on larger orders. For safety and insurance reasons, drivers are unable to enter customers’ properties.
Having reviewed this delivery with our driver, we understand he explained the kerbside policy and still assisted by bringing the boards as close to the front of the property as possible. We’re also sorry if there was any misunderstanding during the interaction, as we always expect our team to remain polite and helpful.

Bought 14 sheets of Finnish WISA Spruce Plywood 12mm. 10 sheets 9mm OSB. Delivered from Essex to CV9 area. I searched and researched lots before settling on this product and company due to a tight budget. They offered the best price per unit and even with higher delivery charge due to distance, still cheaper than local companies, also had the availability. I will update with a photo of finished room when it’s done. Definitely recommend and will definitely buy from again.

30mm valchromat
bought 30mm valchromat, which granted it's not a usual material, but it showed as "in stock" . 2 weeks later, after i chased up for updates, turns out the order didn't even reach their supplier. Suddenly it's a "niche" product, even though it's still in stock right now, supposedly. Was offered another 18mm mdf sheet ( because 18mm is the same as 30mm , right ? ) , or 30mm birch plywood, which supposedly is actually in stock. I specifically wanted valchromat because it's more stable, but at this rate, might as well take the birch plywood as i might have to wait another 2 weeks. All in all, terrible experience, on top of extremely high delivery charges, so either find another supplier if possible, or call ahead, ask if it's actually in stock, then pray.
update : changing from 1 star to 2 stars, i had to re-schedule the delivery, they were accommodating, and the delivery guy was very nice. It's a shame the whole website and order experience is terrible.

The 30mm Valchromat you ordered is a specialist product supplied on a stated lead time of 2 weeks, which was shown on the product page at the time of purchase. Unfortunately, shortly after your order was placed, the manufacturer experienced an unexpected production delay, which extended lead times beyond our control.
We fully understand how frustrating this must have been, especially when you were relying on the material for your project. As soon as the delay became clear, our team contacted you and offered suitable alternatives, including 30mm birch plywood, and your delivery was rearranged in line with your request.
We appreciate your feedback regarding clarity on availability. We have since improved how longer lead-time products are labelled on our website to make this information even clearer at the point of ordering and help avoid similar disappointment in the future.

"In stock", is not necessarily in stock
Their web site listed a sheet of Valchromat (a coloured, moisture resistant MDF) as, "In Stock", with a lead time of, "3-5 days". But I'm later told that, "In Stock", means that it's in stock somewhere in the UK with one of their suppliers and, moreover, that although it's a line their supplier may stock, it's also possible they could be temporarily out-of-stock, which is more likely on such specialist items.
There's nothing wrong with this business model, but their website claims are disingenuous; because they're advertising a level of service they cannot always deliver. In fact, because of the delivery charges I assume a high percentage of their orders are for 'specialist' item category.
On the plus side, once they had come clean, they were very good about cancelling the order and I'm hopeful of receiving my refund soon. Which is why they get more than the bare minimum one-star rating.

We’re sorry for the confusion caused around the “In Stock” messaging for the 19mm Valchromat board. You’re absolutely right that this wasn’t as clear as it should have been. For some specialist items, including this product, “In Stock” can currently refer to availability through the distribution centre rather than physical stock held at our West Thurrock warehouse, which is why a 3–5 day lead time is shown. That said, we understand how this can feel misleading, and we’re actively working on improving how this information is displayed.
To clarify, the majority of our range is stocked directly at our warehouse, with typical delivery times of 1–3 days, and we also offer next-day delivery within the M25 for orders placed before 11 am. We’re aiming to make these differences much more visible across the website.
We’re glad to hear our team was able to assist you promptly once the issue was identified. As confirmed, your refund was processed on 5th May, the same day you spoke with Charlie.

SMW shipped the incorrect size…
SMW shipped the incorrect size following a "like for like" change, insisted I pay £90 for return shipping, then offered to "go halves" as they "are a small company" and added VAT afterwards. As a volunteer, I will have to pay the £54 to ensure I receive the panels. Never again.

Following your initial order for 9mm MR MDF in the 10x4 size, you contacted us after conducting further research regarding its suitability for outdoor use. Our team recommended switching to exterior-grade plywood, which is indeed more appropriate for such applications. Unfortunately, during this last-minute amendment, there was a misunderstanding over the phone, and the order was changed to 9mm marine plywood in an 8x4 size rather than the requested 10x4.
We sincerely apologise for this error and for any confusion regarding the return shipping costs. While our standard policy applies charges when changes are made after dispatch, we recognise that this situation resulted from a miscommunication on our part. Your feedback has highlighted the need for clearer internal communication and additional product training for our support team, and we are taking steps to address this.

Ordered MDF panelling & paid an extra…
Ordered MDF panelling & paid an extra £108 for delivery. Got a text less than 24hrs before they intended to deliver. Called them within 10 minutes of the text to initially be told the lorry is loaded and they cannot change the date. This then progessed to if I wanted to change the day to one that was convenient it would be another £30. Whilst the lady wasnt rude, the customer service was minimal, they really didnt value my custom and chose to cancel my order over delivering at a time when I could actually be at home. at one point they suggested just leaving it on the drive. Felt they wanted to cancel my order rather than help.Decided to take my custom elsewhere where it would be valued.

We’re sorry to hear you’ve experienced issues with the boards; however, having reviewed your order and the correspondence with our team, we’d like to clarify a few important points.
The product purchased is suitable for external use, but as clearly advised, all cut edges must be properly sealed to prevent moisture ingress into the core. This is standard practice for this type of material. From your own communication with our colleague, you confirmed that the edges were not sealed after cutting.
Unfortunately, if the edges are left unsealed, water can penetrate the core, which can lead to swelling and delamination over time. Based on this, we must conclude that the issue has arisen due to the installation method rather than a fault with the product itself.
Regarding delivery, our charges reflect the cost of transporting large, heavy materials safely and efficiently, and these are clearly outlined prior to purchase.
That said, we’re sorry you feel dissatisfied with the service you received, as this is not the experience we aim to provide. If you would like to discuss this further, we would be happy to assist.

What a fantastic experience start to finish.
What a fantastic experience from start to finish. We were urgently in need of some Bufalo board as a stallion had made light work of an internal stable partition. I tried ringing to obtain some urgently at 7:20am having found some on the internet. The automated message told me Sheet Materials was not yet open so I tried Travis Perkins and a local timber yard to us. Both were eye wateringly expensive. Then my phone rang and George from Sheet Materials was on the line saying they had a missed call from us. I was impressed by this - but also from the professional way he deelt with my questions and guided me to order online as it was more secure and promised it would be delivered the following day. My husband was sceptical as it was so much cheaper than our local timber yard. The board not only arrived on time but was brilliant quality. My husband had to eat his words and we now have 8 sheets of Bufalo board delivered for the same price as two we would have had to collect locally. The guy who fitted them now wants a link to buy from you as does another farmer friend who needs some roofing. Fantastic service guys.

Nice company to deal with, the staff were very helpful on the phone and the delivery driver was also very polite. More importantly the wood seems to be of good quality. I bought some sheets to cover my decking and the driver said this is what they use on ship decks which is perfect because I have lots of plants on the deck that need watering regularly.
