Simple and quick
Simple and quick process. A couple of days after submitting claim it was processed and money lodged to bank account. Really easy.

Itemisation does not match how most dentists charge
The need for an itemised claim, separately listing, for example, different types of appointments, x-rays, anaesthesia, and different items (e.g. a pin for a filling or a post for a crown must be claimed separately) makes the claim process difficult.
It puts me off renewing my cover and I haven't even managed to submit my first claim yet. I've confirmed with Unum that this level of detail is required and I'm having difficulty getting a claimable invoice from my dentist as, like most, they quote a price for work and don't charge for individual items in the way that Unum demands they are listed in a claim. EDIT, My dentist is now attempting to help but I worry that a replacement invoice won't be a true breakdown as they don't invoice items separately in general.

Thank you for getting in touch and bringing this to our attention. We’re sorry to hear that you are disappointed in our Dental policy.
We do require an itemised receipt with each individual item listed in order for our customers to make a claim. However, in most cases dentists are happy to make this available on your request, either in digital form or as a physical copy from the practice. You should be able to request one once you've paid for treatment.
Please note that we generally require a course of treatment to be finished and paid for before you can make a claim on the Unum Dental product. We would be unable to accept a dentist's quote for work and would instead need that itemised receipt once you have made payment.
