Frustrating Experience with Unfair Pricing and Questionable Condition Assessments

I had an incredibly disappointing experience with this refurbisher, and I feel compelled to share it as a warning to others. I shipped them three iPads: two practically new M4 iPad Pros, each with fewer than five battery cycles, and a fifth-generation iPad Pro. I took great care to clean and pack each device myself, so I know they were in flawless condition when I sent them.

After waiting over a week, they finally inspected the devices, only to get back to me with revised offers, claiming that the iPads had scratches and downgrading them to a lower condition. This was shocking, considering the care I took before shipping. It’s hard not to feel suspicious about this sudden change in assessment, especially when they couldn’t provide any clear evidence of the supposed scratches.

To add insult to injury, they then applied today’s lower market prices, rather than honoring the original offer prices I received when I initiated the order. This means I’m losing at least $100 per device due to their pricing and condition changes. And getting in touch with them to resolve this has been a nightmare—they respond at a snail’s pace, sometimes taking more than a day to reply to each message, even if I answer immediately.

This entire process has left me feeling frustrated and let down. I’d strongly advise anyone to consider more trustworthy alternatives like GadgetPickup or BuyBackSurgeon, which seem to handle customer service and pricing with far more transparency and respect.

PS: I also want to highlight that this company went to great lengths to pressure me into removing my negative feedback from Trustpilot. They repeatedly offered me money in exchange for deleting my honest review. It felt extremely unprofessional and manipulative. While they are very skilled at justifying their actions, as evident in their detailed responses, I won’t stoop to their level by fabricating or distorting the truth. My experience speaks for itself, and I believe potential customers deserve to know what they might be walking into. Transparency matters more than any payout they might offer.

Satisfied 1st time customer

Frequent txt message updates and quick responses to texts from real humans helped seal the deal for me. I sent in the phone via USPS with the confidence that paying the $6 extra for full insurance meant that I wouldn't end up with an issue if the phone was lost by the US mail system. Payment to Zelle was easy.

had a terrible experience

had a terrible experience, from waiting times much longer than what they said, to them finding tiny blemishes that resulted in them not honoring the offer. They offered me far less than they should have and now it's not really worth having them send the phone back and trying all over with an actual reputable place. Be aware of hidden fees that no other place has. Wish I never used this company to sell my old phone. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, I WOULD AVOID THIS PLACE.

Great price and communication

Honestly I was a little worried because their web presence isn’t that big but I’m glad I went with them. They offer the best price and communication was great. I’ll definitely go with them next time I trade in. I’ll also recommend them to everyone I know.

Reputable Seller but be careful...

I give Web Trade-In 5 stars for ultimately doing the right thing, but not without a complication along the way.

Over the years, before purchasing a new iPhone I have sold current models to online vendors such as this one. There are a lot of reliable buyers/sellers out there but for some reason, Web Trade-In was offering considerably more money for my used iPhone.

Normally, a company substantially outbidding others might give one pause. Could there be a bait-and-switch involved where once the company receives your phone, it is devalued? I read reviews accusing Web Trade-In of devaluing phones due to excessive scratches. And once that happens, you are at their mercy because, at that point, phone resale values have already gone down further.

This was exactly my situation when I accepted the unusually high offer to sell my iPhone. Once they received the phone I got a message that the condition was being downgraded from GOOD to FAIR due to excessive scratches. They sent me photos of my device.

I wrote the company back and reminded them that their posted interpretation of GOOD includes a few scratches and that my phone meets the requirements of that classification. I received a reply the next day that included an apology and they honored the original quote they gave me and immediately sent out payment via Zelle.

The lesson here is one, take photos of your phone for your records before sending it to a seller like this. If they try to devalue your phone, stand your ground if you believe the condition meets their requirements for the offered payment.

In the end, Web Trade-In did the right thing so I can't find fault with them. I would use them again for my next iPhone sale but this time, I would take my advice and keep visual records of what I am sending them to avoid any kind of discrepancy that occurred here.
