Cohens Chemist Avis 

I had an appalling experience at Cohens Chemist on Coal Clough Lane, Burnley. I went there with an emergency prescription referral from NHS 111 after my GP messed up my prescription. Desperately needing my heart medication, I had already gone without it for one night and was anxious about the weekend. The staff were incredibly rude and uninterested in my situation, refusing to even glance at the text message from NHS 111. They callously fobbed me off to another chemist, denying their ability to issue an emergency prescription, despite being listed on the NHS 111 service. Their dismissive attitude left me without my crucial medication for another night, putting my health at significant risk. Their behavior was not only unprofessional but downright dangerous. Avoid this chemist at all costs if you need reliable and compassionate care.

My aunt has alzheimers, Cohens deliver her prescription. Unfortunately she has recently worsened and a few times has gone into their branch or rung them up to say she is confused about her medication. The staff have bent over backwards to re-explain, and also ring me so that I am aware and can call her and reassure her/ remind her about how and when the pills are taken. I live a long way away and really appreciate them taking the time and care to do this.

Overall very poor service, extremely slow to turn around prescriptions and failure to notify you when they are ready. I have used this Pharmacy for twenty plus years, but it has deteriorated dramatically over the last year or so, resulting in me swapping to a different Pharmacy.

Keep getting told my medication is at an off site dispensary. This has been going on for over a month. I keep getting texts saying my prescription is ready to collect, I go to collect it and I’m told it’s not there and I never ordered anything. While I have proof on my online ordering saying it’s GP approved and the pharmacy it was sent to, followed by the text from this so called chemist saying it’s ready to collect.
Getting beyond a joke, they’re messing with people’s medications and people’s health!! My medicine is for long term conditions and if I run out it has awful effects.

I know it’s not just me they’re doing it to, I hear the same load of scheisse been shared with other customers in the building and hear them complain with similar stories to my own.

I also bought something from the shelf and was charged the wrong price (shelf stated cheaper than charged). Raised this and asked for it to be rectified and was told they shouldnt fix the issue but they will do it “this once”.

Staff seem absolutely incapable and the practice itself is a shambles. Bring back Lloyds pharmacy.

It's now taking a week and more for repeat prescriptions to be ready for collection from Cohens after they are signed off by the GP. It seems that scripts requested via surgeries are now sent by Cohens to their central hub to be prepared and are then sent back to the originating pharmacy. This slows the process down to a minimum five days before meds are ready for pickup. My local ASDA pharmacy, which closed down last year, usually had repeat items in stock and ready to collect within twenty minutes. Sadly missed and a real pity it closed.

Tetbury, Gloucestershire -the woman pharmacist with the purple hair always calls out the list of medication in the presence of others-including HRT!!! It is rude and indiscreet. This is our data and should be private. I am nervous every time she is there and I need a repeat prescription. I am determined to change to the Boots in Malmesbury or Cirencester. Why are we tolerating this?!

With the rebuild in the village, Boots and one other chemist were closed down. The alternative was Cohens.
Well impressed in the beginning, naturally they got extremely busy, and everything changed. One wished it was Cohens that had 'gone'. A small village, some of us know one another having lived here for many years. You do not visit a chemist unless you have health issues, usually prescriptions are the main requirement.
Truly, have never met such aggressive, indifferent, controlling and rude people dealing with the public.
WHY? Having put up with this for a few years decided enough is enough and changed pharmacy.
Yes, a little further, less convenient, harder to park all this is a pleasure, worth the extra hassle and all the awful attitude I was having to deal with. I am now treated with the absolute respect, smiles, greetings , even if I feel not my normal self, this lifts my ambience as I walk through the door. Why on earth to people continue to worth with the public if they so hate their occupation, it is beyond me.

Dr's will not repeat prescription longer than 7 days, Cohens request10 day yet regularly take 14 days. Now searching for new chemist. Sad really as Chemist in same build as GP and within 100yds. Cohens Heysham

Very helpful staff. Clean and tidy. Served within a respectful timescale. Top marks for service.

Went in and waited 10 minutes and no one came to the counter. 3 female assistants laughing and joking and 1 guy who I assume was the chemist. 5 other people waiting to be served.Very incompetent, slack and unprofessional. Walked out and went to a different chemist. Won’t ever go back there, awful level of service.

Holt park branch. Some of the staff (Not all)..one in particular is officious, unhelpful and uncaring. A tendency to blame the gp or patient when the chemist fails to meet its deadlines. No apology when they get it wrong. The last remark when I said I needed my medication for the weekend, having already waited a week for the prescription, was "yes, well I can't promise you'll get it and I could be dealing with prescriptions rather than talking to you"...no concern shown about possible side effects of going without medication, no advice given. it's an abuse of power. I put the phone down on her in frustration knowing that, in doing so, I most definitely wouldn't receive my medication on time.

Morecambe branch
My wife Went early in morning, only one other person waiting. He said prescription was ready but 25 minutes later still waiting.
They only could give me 5 of my most important tablets as they were short on stock even thought my prescription went in 4 days before.
I won't be using them again after going to them for over 20 years. The service has deteriorated over last couple of years.

I don't know whether there are new management at the Hinckley branch ( last couple of months ) ,
it used to be a top chemist .
I've used Cohens for about 10 years and they have been fantastic BUT the last two months they've been a nightmare to deal with , wrong meds , waiting for days , no text messages ,
Last week I walked to the chemist on a Sunday afternoon to collect my script and was told come back tomorrow ( Monday) it will definitely be in , went back Monday..no script , went Tuesday..half the script was available.
Bearing in mind I put my script request in 10 days previously ,
The excuses ranged from the doctors (castlemeade) not releasing the script to " we're so busy we're outsourcing our scripts to be made up ...as of writing this review I'm awaiting blood test strips ( which I've ran out of ) even though the whole prescription was requested on the 3/4/2024 it is now 14/4/2024.
Very disappointed and think I'll use a new chemist .

Totally unhelpful even rude, customer service is completely unheard of in the Otley old road Ls16 branch.
If I could leave zero stars I would.

45 mins to find monthly repeat prescription!
I have been going to this chemist for years but I think it has changed hands now as it's terrible... there are loads more staff but they are so unorganised. Every time I go now I have a wait & usually they misplace prescriptions it's not just once it's every time, how can this happen so often. (It's like ground hog day) I can't go if I'm in a rush I have to go when I've got an hour spare, My last experience I waited about 15mins in first queue to be served it was out the door when I joined it then had to wait another 30 mins in another queue of about 11 people all waiting as they couldn't find prescriptions. Mine was eventually found as someone had put it in wrong place again same as last month & month before. Something really needs to be done as there were quite a few elderly waiting & all the seats were full so not good.

Failure to inform that my medication was not in stock and I was then left without my insulin needles. The staff are nasty and rude. They have not an ounce of compassion for the patient when they leave them without medication. Overall a very incompetent company. I am very disappointed that head office allow this to go on and have now made it quite difficult for patients to be able to make a complaint which speaks volumes about their lack of compassion.
