Residence Inn by Marriott… Manchester
Stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Manchester last weekend. I was made to feel super safe, offered a room away from the road as I have autism and noise can make it hard to sleep. Massive shout out to Rose and Maggie who really made my stay special, they checked in to see if I was okay helped with making sure I was at breakfast in the morning. The area for breakfast was slightly smaller that other places but the rooms do have kitchenettes. On a plus the selection of breakfast food should suffice most picky eaters like myself.
A mix of experiences with Aberdeen’s Moxy the winner
I’ve stayed at 3 different Marriott group hotels in the last 2 weeks. The best one was the Moxy at Aberdeen Airport, the staff there are fantastic and so helpful. Our second stay was at the Marriott Glasgow, which was okay, and the staff were great, but was disappointed that the main restaurant was closed due to the hotel being quiet. If I wanted to eat in a bar area, I’d go to Moxy. The third stay was an overnight at the Heathrow Sheraton, which I would probably rate as mediocre and unless there’s some major improvement in service, may not stay there again in the future. I find the Heathrow Renaissance far better and usually costs less and have already book a future stay there.
Exceptionally poor service
As an extensive traveller this has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in for service. Slow is not the right word. Order a drink to accompany your meal and finish both courses before anything arrives. After dinner be prepared to stand for 20 mins for a drink. I'm in night 2 of a 5 night stay unfortunately.
Kitchen chef’s poor attitude!
Stayed at the Courtyard Exeter Sandy Park for two days, Dec. 24-26, so over the Christmas period. The room we stayed in like many areas of the hotel looked nice and smart, must have had a recent refit. It looked and smelt new. Sadly, the shower was a let down. It looked good but had low pressure and a temperature equaliser because it wouldn’t get hotter than a set temperature, which was unsatisfactory. Other than that the room was clean and the bed and pillows comfortable. All the reception staff were friendly, from the front entrance to the waiters in the dining room. My one gripe was with the duty chef. Despite overlooking a massive kitchen with numerous hot plates and pots and pans he wouldn’t, at first, sort out a boiled egg! He tried his hardest to refuse until I said I would complain. I found his attitude poor and objections to this little service request unbelievable. Not stopping there he instructed the poor waiter who brought the egg over to explain over again, why it was difficult to provide. The couldn’t apologise enough. At check out I was told a request of a boiled, poached or omelette should never have been a problem, given a little notice of course, and further apologised. I obviously got a chef with attitude, but stars withheld for poor dining experience here. Was it worth it? There was a Christmas deal and the location good for Topsham, the surrounding area and Exeter airport so yes, but without that financial incentive I wouldn’t choose it as my first option, as its otherwise expensive for what it is. P.S. Check your sat-nav carefully, easy to miss the directions and end up all over the shop.
Birthday spa break gone wrong
Well… I stayed here many years ago when it was McDonald’s! I did not have any issues like this time though! I booked through an agent (spa seekers) for my 36th birthday and the communication between the hotel and them is ridiculous! Unfortunately my best friend passed away and I had to amend my booking and bring it forward from the 12th to the 9th- baring in mind I booked travel lodge the night before and they wavered their fee as it’s exceptional circumstances. I sent them and the travel lodge the same email and then I fwd travel lodge reply to Marriott but never heard back- It’s not really about the money but the principle as though I am not going through enough and I have to rearrange my whole birthday… BOOKING: So the hotel had no update of our amendments (still emailing correspondence with wrong day) when I called about this they said ring the agent. I explained the agent knows it seems you don’t - now that should have been a red flag in communication but I proceeded with the booking….TREATMENTS: The “Package” I booked included x2 25min treatments and I called the hotel & spa for weeks and got answerphone trying to arrange these (although spa seekers told me Marriott would contact me) I specifically asked this because I wanted to plan my stay as we scheduled lunch with friends… the night before still no treatments confirmed and I sent an email to cover myself and dealt with that on arrival. They only had one slot left so we had to rearrange my meal with friends…CHECK OUT: Well our (late checkout was 12pm according to the “package” but a man from reception proceeded to bang down the door at 11am for 10mins. I ignored him at first but he wouldn’t stop then walked in!!!! My husband explained we had late check out and he disagreed so I went down to reception and complained AGAIN! Basically don’t book through an agent and Marriott don’t work with people you don’t communicate with! Not to mention half the stuff on the menu in the restaurant was missing! Towel rail in the room broke, phone broke!!! Place looks nice but vibes were bad. Sauna was also broke too I don’t get what I spent my money on tbh the whole stay is embarrassing
George @ Leeds
George at the Leeds hotel (off Boar Lane) was so lovely to all guests at our work christmas party. Polite and friendly, thanks George!
Is there anything the Marriott folks wouldn’t put their name on?
Just stayed two nights at an awful Moxy hotel which was literally like a hostel with (thin) walls. Two cheap kids beds. a tiny room and tinier toilet with low pressure shower with cheapest fixtures.Motel 6 sized towels. Building materials were like balsa wood, every slammed door, laugh, cough was jarring. No drinking water in the room. Lifts were stunningly rickety and slow. Lobby was cramped and uninviting with furniture you’d leave at the thrift store. High priced for a 1 star hotel which it is - like an Ibis Budget really. The answer to the high price low quality inquiries is that it’s “hip” and basically everyone knows the Moxy offering is junkie. Plus even a run down Marriott is trying to get $300 no matter how shocking that might be in the local market. Wonder what the pioneer Marriott’s would make of this industrial scale canibalization. And where is the media reporting on the widespread obviously fake reviews on Marriott’s site? This at times grossly overpriced dump gets fawning reviews and a preposterous 4.3 rating.
loyalty blocked
2nd hotel visit in 30 days, 2nd time not able to edit or check my points as it wont let me in - try navigating the website - basically they want you to call a usa toll number - not happening - plenty more competitors whose loyalty service is much sharper and clear. Emailed marriot twice - no reply, says it all.
They will not fix faulty fire alamr
Woken up by fire alarm in room after 4 hours sleep. Complained the next day - without me saying which room I was in - they said oh yes Room 168 has an issue with the battery in the fire alarm. Why put someone in a room where they know the fire alarm is going to go off?
Room were nice but the Christmas party food was horrible
I will give them 3 stars as the rooms are nice, we had a Christmas party their for a 160 people, veg were rock hard, mash had lumps in it, my wife chocolate dessert was rock hard, the fizzy lemonade was like fizzy water, what they served at the bar. But the hotel was nicely presented.

Marriott Bristol
Marriott Bristol. Hotel and rooms are nice. Avoid the weekends or check there are no events on as your going to have a bad night. Also check you have a booking for breakfast even if it’s not included in your room. This is in Millers and there are queues. The management are unhelpful, defensive and only interested in how it effects thém
The worst day stay hotel experience I've had
It'll be easier to do this time-line style. Booking was for day use: 09:00 - 17:00
Marriott Kensington, 147 Cromwell Road, London, SW5 0TH
08:39 - my friend shows up to ask how soon we can check into to hotel. Through the call, I can hear the receptionist say "come back in an hour"
08:45 - I arrive and I get told the room is not ready.
08:56 - I went to the reception to let them know I have a meeting (which was in fact an online interview) and I was told the room would be ready in 2-3 minutes (No empathy, zero), but I was asked to pay which I did at this time. (Bank payment timestamped)
09: 05 - I was told the room was still not ready and they will come get me when it is.
09:19 - I go again to the reception. The receptionist says "Oh, I was about to come to you. Here you go" and we got the key cards (No Apology for the lateness).
10:42 - Interview is done so we go down to get breakfast. We order our food. 2 sandwiches and 2 hot chocolates and this is 10:49
11:31 - This is when our food got ready and for £41.06 and we still got burnt toasted bread on one of the sandwiches and just lack of care when you look at how they were put together. By the way, this is after checking how long it would take, 3 times. (pictures of burnt toast and other sandwich taken)
Late lunch after meetings we went out to eat. Came back to the hotel so we continue to saga.
16:29 - we try our key cards but they don't seem to working,
16:32 - Call the reception using the phone by on the hallway next to the lift. We're told, "Someone will be with you in a minute." We checked our watches just to see how fast they would response considering how bad the service had been thus' far.
16:44 - Call reception AGAIN as we'd been standing for over 10 minutes and we're told "My colleague is on his way now"
16:48 - Colleague arrives with a new key (16 minutes later) but at least he apologised. "From what we can see, the access on the key cards cut off before time and we are sorry. Here's another key card... what time can you check out so I can tell house keeping not to bother you?" we respond and say 17:30. cool
16:49 - we get into the room and the TV is tilted down. Now I DO NOT know if someone was in the room or what happened there but again, I have a picture... anyways
17:09 - Knock at the door. Gladly enough we had packed our laptops etc... so we open the door and the person at the door says in a nut shell says just checking if you're ready to check-out cause it's past our check-out time.
I will not go to Marriott again unless it was literally the last option I had and I would prepare myself ahead of time. Great for those who had a good experience and I hope it stays that way but that was the worst first experience yet I'd had a great stay at Novotel 2 weeks before. Should have just stayed there again...
Is this hotel worth the money?
Room was adequate with modern bathroom although the water pressure was poor. Could do with extractor fan in bathroom as large mirror steam up when you want to shave after shower
Plenty of sockets
room temperature controller is bit irritating especially during the night but easy to rectify .
Dinning good choice although a little expensive especially when tip/surcharge included
You cannot get white win by glass only bottle which I thought was strange
Good range for breakfast buffet
The shop in reception was very expensive GBP 5 for 2 finger kit kat ( had to buy 2 bars- reception did not know reason ) & small bar of chocolate
Poor facilities for small children compared to other Marriott hotels ( pool which was always busy)
The Reception staff were pleasant but you missed the warm greeting
Would I return - no
nothing like the marriott resort palm…
nothing like the marriott resort palm jumeirah . it’s the best hotel in the palm with a kids club and it’s in the beginning of the palm jumeirah. Aziz and Abdellah Alsalami , shingie from senor pico who always come to help during breakfast this boys are exceptional and has a great customer service and deserve a pay rise.lalit mustakeer from house keeper is amazing, coming every day with his team to change towels and make up the room nice and clean.Vasty at levantera ,musud ,Ali and the other door attendants are wonderful and will always give us water when living the hotel for our activities. ladies at the kids club especially the black lady who is the kids club singer her voice is truly incredible and the bar men’s, security guards and all the staff of marriott are truly amazing ,polite, professional, respectful, friendly and outstanding vibes and welcoming are great.you don’t need to leave the hotel as so much to do as it’s the utmost luxury in every corner of the property and check in and check out was straight without problems.team work in marriott makes you feel royal in every possible way . we loved our stay and will be back and i definitely recommend marriott resort palm jumeirah for families and couples. top notch in the palm
Poor communication and no empathy
I booked a room through a third party (first mistake). Within 48 hours my circumstances had changed causing me to request a cancellation, 7 weeks before the reservation date. I contacted the booking company to cancel and was then informed that my booking was non refundable (2nd mistake). They offered to ask the hotel if they would make an exception and refund me as I had cancelled way in advance. They emailed me the next day and asked me to contact the hotel, which I did, they referred me back to the booking agent. Who referred me back to the hotel, who referred me back to the booking agency. I managed to speak to someone at the hotel who apologised for my inconvenience and said he would try to cancel my booking and request a refund. Four hours later the hotel emailed me and told me I needed to cancel the booking through the booking agency. So 5 days later nothing has been resolved. The hotel repeatedly emailed that they were UNABLE to issue me a refund, actually the correct word should be UNWILLING and refusing. Based on this experience I would never stay at any Marriott.
Lousy hotel service in courtyard…

Do not use the pool. Our children suffered from too many chemicals.
Service slow.
Soap an conditioner empty at shower.
All tigether not a good experience.
Complained to staff but no feedback or response.
Hotels are nice. Service is not.
Completely incompetent customer service. They don't listen to anything you say. Categorically the worst complaints team I've ever spoken to. They don't solve any of your issues, borderline call you a liar, take ages to respond and act like it's a personal attack whenever you try and defend yourself.
I thought it was pretty normal to lodge a complaint after staying at a hotel with enough bedbugs to put you into immune response shock.
One of the better hotel chains!
We've stayed in many Marriott hotels around the UK and Europe. Overall one of the better chains, who really go out of their way to make any issues right.
