Terrible experience
I am writing the review during my stay.
Horrible experience
All air conditioning in hotel is not working and under maintenance they did not tell us prior to check in or even during the check in. Kids are unable to sleep in the boiling room.
Awful wifi.
Marriott Meaness
We booked the Cardiff Marriott for an overnight stay (£162 for a Queen room) through Booking.com. This is the only hotel we have stayed in for many years that still charges for WiFi - £10 for 24 hours - unless you give your details over for their Bonvoy programme. This was not explained when booking - you are led to believe WiFi is free. Turns out it is free in the public areas, but if you actually pay for a room, it is not. The room itself was clean, but spartan. It had a bed, chair and tiny round table in the corner - no desk! If you want to be able to work at a desk in your room, you have to fork out for a Superior room. I am astounded at their meanness and desire to wring every possible penny out of their guests at the expense of a positive customer experience! And the lamps didn't work either. Left feeling exploited - would never stay there again.
Peterborough Marriott Gold Star for your staff
Myself and 2 friends have just had a night away at Marriott Peterborough, I am local to the area but haven’t stayed/used the hotel for many years and my friends came from Leicester and London. I arrived at 1. Nat had already made her way to the Leisure facilities and already sent me a message saying Laura on club reception was a darling. I was greeted by a lovely receptionist on main check in desk who complimented my dress and let me check into our room (2 hours earlier than check in time) by the time our third and final friend arrived and we went back up to the room they had put a little card telling us to have a lovely girlie weekend and also a bottle of wine. We thought this was a really nice touch. They also found us some robes and slippers for the pool (they don’t do spa days here as such so again this was them going out of their way to be accommodating) We had room 221 a nice sized corner room for the 3 of us. The pool was very nice and the area was warm and relaxing. Laura brought us nice coffees at the pool while we had the last treatment. We went out for our evening meal (Cuckoo at Alwalton, very nice) and we were going to head into Peterborough but all the staff had been so friendly that we decided to just head back to the hotel bar where we had lots of Baileys. The bed was comfy over night and the breakfast was of a good standard again with friendly staff. I just wanted to say the staff make this hotel and by their lovely interactions with us we ended up coming back and spending more in the hotel. We would absolutely come back again in the future and recommend it to others. Thank you. Lucy/Nat/Zena
Marriott Courtyard Oxford budget hotel
I am compelled to write this review after the most appalling experience at the Marriott Courtyard Oxford. Please be aware the this property is equivalent to a budget hotel with the Marriott brand. My Sister had her Hermes handbag, Burberry scarf and coat, cash and jewellery stolen right in front of us at the restaurant area. There is no one to receive guests and to seat you, the front entrance leads straight between two potted plants into the seating area. This person stood behind my sister and just causally picked up her belongs and left. She stood up and was quite upset saying that her handbag was missing. I rushed to the front desk asked the woman at the desk to shut the doors a few feet in front of her and review cctv to be told a manager needs to come and authorise. Long wait to review cctv on the managers phone then half an hour later waiting for the police to answer a non emergency call. We that late afternoon as we did not feel comfortable there my Sister in our haste to leave forgot some personal clothing when we returned to London. Called the Marriott staff cannot speak English collected her clothing and left them on a table next to the check-in desk. My Sister then took a private taxi from London and went back to collect her belongs. Now we are stuck with no bank cards identification documents and she is a resident of Singapore. Avoid this place
We are, as I write, staying at the…
We are, as I write, staying at the Bournemouth Highcliff Hotel and been here for the past 5 nights. This is without doubt the worst Marriott Hotel we have been in - and as Elite Bonvoy Marriott members we have been to most of them, including Dubai, the Ritz in Buenos Aires, scores in the USA and all over the UK.
Comedy of errors right from the start, including - no hot water, cracked cups, beds not made, winter weight duvets, even after complaining, things going missing from room, room left open throughout the day so anybody could enter, open the window and a roaring gale whistles under the bathroom door - there is more - which I intend to write to Mr Marriott about. Diabolical
Ripped off using a gift card
My husband purchased a Marriott gift card through his company a while back. We're off to York in September to take our son to university so thought it would be the perfect opportunity to use a portion of the gift card. We checked prices online and decided to book the non refundable room as we will definitely be making the journey and it was cheaper than the "flexible" options. Turns out because we have a gift card we must pay the higher "flexible" price. The reason we have been given is that we're not paying with "cash". Ludicrous given that the gift card has already been paid for. So, in total we're paying an additional £39 making the total cost for the one night, room only booking £250!
We will make the global company my husband works for aware. Maybe with our feedback they'll rethink and go elsewhere in the future.
Feel we have been totally ripped off and once we have exhausted the gift card, we will never stay at a Marriott again.
Shame on you Marriott.
Stay away
Marriott Huntingdon
Immediately when checking-in, discussion arose about the number of nights booked, even though I (a man) spelled my name several times and the name mentioned on the check-in form was that of a woman. It was only after a colleague got involved that it became clear to the check-in lady I was another person. Apart from this I find it rather insulting that I was checked in as a woman. Later I walked past the counter and heard another guest say that she did not get the room she had booked. So more goes wrong here. The restaurant is furnished as a cheap roadside restaurant, this is Marriott unworthy. Only after more than 5 minutes did someone come to designate a table. The disco music was very loud and my request to reduce the volume or rather to turn it off was difficult to follow. After about 10 minutes the music was turned louder again, although there was still nobody else! Then again I asked to reduce the noise. Also indicated that not the staff but the guest must have the choice and that I was at this moment the only guest who did not want to be in this very loud noise. On paying I discussed the situation with another servant girl. With a sour face, she told her boss who told me she would discuss it internally. In the meantime, another guest came to the restaurant, who wanted a table by the window. That was not possible because it was already set for breakfast. 5 Minutes later a family came in who also wanted a table next to the window. Then it was no problem. Also on the busiest moments when a lot of people were checking out, the floor was being cleaned, so slippery, not a very clever idea. What is missing from the staff is commitment. They do what they have to do and that’s it, but generally they are not interested in the guest. The next 2 breakfasts and meals were taken somewhere else, certainly not at the Marriott Hotel. Incidentally, the room was fine, but should be because of the money paid for it.
Terrible hotels with shocking customer…
Terrible hotels with shocking customer service. But it is no wonder that Marriott don’t care about their customers when they happily bankroll and associate themselves with the Glazer family.

Went for 'Spa day' with private lounge for 40th birthday. The Treatment room was filled with dirty furniture covered in dirty blankets. None of the staff knew what was on the lunch menu or felt obliged to find out. Private 'lounge' was a stock room in the staff area of hotel up broken stairwell into the hotel staff room area. Room filled with cardboard boxes stacked up the wall, an overflowing bin not emptied from previous clients meaning the room wasn't cleaned between guests and more grubby blanket covered old furniture. Room cluttered and full of stored items. Se were invited to use the staff toilet with broken, hanging off seat and crappy peeling flopr.
When we requested room change staff aggressive and shouted at us and hotel manager not to disturb them. When we requested refund we were subjected to 20+ minutes of abuse over the phone, told we were just supposed to wait for an hour when no one available to help us and for daring to question the state of the facilities at all. We got told 'our business wasn't needed.' We got a refund in full and not returning is fine by us, place should be reported and shut down.
We put in formal complaint via website, this was ignored. We called to get the formal complaints procedure, followed it and two weeks later this has continued to be ignored. Marriotts clearly know how their treatment rooms are being run and aren't interested.
Disgusting. Dirty. Vile. Mis-sold as luxury when it's a backstreet dirty trying to use an staff room / store room set up to fool money out of people believing the Marriot Brand means something.
Marriott just as culpable because they know and do nothing about it. Short sighted at best.
We have photos and videos to back up everything we are writing.
I’d give this 0 stars if I could
I’d give this 0 stars if I could. Booked a spa overnight stay for me and my 2 daughters. I entered the date and 3 guests - got a price and booked it. Received a confirmation email which stated exactly what was included- lunch, dinner, breakfast and 2 treatments pp. Unfortunately the hotel then decided that actually it was only for 2 people despite the confirmation and insisted on an extra payment of £220! I cancelled and would never go there. You cannot trust their website, their confirmation email or them.
Great staff, poor policy.
The staff are the stars of the Liverpool Marriott, friendly and hard working hence rooms and communal areas very clean.
Two problems. On check in Marriott policy demands they take credit/debit card details and deduct a nominal £1 charge for unspecified potential damage; refuse and they will not honour your booking even if you've paid upfront. I'm a 60+ female lone traveller, the thought of being stranded was distressing. I'm not the nervous type but the thought of incurring unspecified incidental damage costs was stressful and did not make for a good night's sleep. To not notify customers of this policy in advance of check in is dishonest and left me feeling hijacked. I've not had this experience with other large hotel chains.
The second issue is that the showers are not eco friendly. More water is wasted in working out how to operate them than in having a shower.
For these two reasons I cannot recommend Marriott hotels and will not use them again.
Tired hotel terrible breakfast …
Tired hotel terrible breakfast cancelled dinner for that evening couldn't risk it two night stay they forgot to service rooms rang reception for towels three people two rooms sea views for just over a grand poor value
very unprofessional and rude…
very unprofessional and rude receptionist Marcela in the Bexleyheath hotel. very bitter and miserable with an attitude. this was the first and last time staying with the Marriot hotel
Poor customer service and dated.
Room was dated. Furniture chipped. Electrics not working. Had to go to breakfast with wet hair as no working sockets to use hairdryer. Staff suggested it was my fault. Turned out to be their faulty kettle. No apology. Customer service is appauling. Avoid Leicester Marriott
Poor service and poor attitude
Poor service and poor attitude.
Marriott is tired and so are their staff. Really poor experience in their hotel in a recent stay. Inflexible and rude to be honest. Unless you want a poor experience, 1980s decor with 1980s service attitude then avoid.
Excellent staff
Having recently stayed at marriot,s Hotel in Durham I can honestly say it was a pleasure.the staff were excellent, especially a local lady called Shirley in housekeeping who,s vast knowledge of Durham pointed me in the right direction to coffee shops and restaurants I would otherwise never have found, you are an asset to the company shirley.well done and thank you
Great spa. Ferne is lovely!
great spa! lovely massage and facial i had with Ferne. She is so sweet and a great therapist. Really made my birthday treat, thank you! :)
Overall my experience at the Marriott…
Overall my experience at the Marriott Forest of Arden was ok, however the main criticism was to do with bar staff who were clearly overwhelmed with numbers of people in the bar and sorely undertrained. The first thing any good bar person should learn is who is next in line - the staff here simply didn’t know or care who they served next leading to plenty of heated conversations between waiting punters. Food was ok, rooms were comfortable, apart from having to ask to have our room serviced. Marriott in the US is far superior.
Booking Cancelled - no explanation received!
We turned up to the Tudor Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club at 6.30 pm on Saturday to find that they had cancelled our room (we were never notified), our room he'd been allocated to someone else. After much discussion we were told that if we really want to stay, Marriott would cancel someone else's reservation and we could have their room, as apparently this is Company Policy! We decided that this response was unacceptable and did not want to spoil another persons evening, so we returned home. The cancellation email followed us an hour later. We are still waiting a call from the hotel Manager to explain, but as this was not forthcoming we decided to write this review.
No assistance with Marriott’s app with costly results
I tried for several hours to get the Bonvoy Marriott app to work. Having spent so much of my time either calling, emailing or asking various Marriott hotel receptions to help, with no result, I called an international number (USA). I asked if it was a free number from the uk and was told YES. I continued with the call to discover one simple correction was all that was needed. I was charged £60 for the call and all I got from Marriott was an apology. I felt who cares really?
Why couldn’t this simple problem be sorted from the uk ? Why did the advisor tell me it was a free call ? Why didn’t Marriott at least offer me something as a sorry no matter how small? I feel stupid for doing it but it was in light of having spent so much time which would have been wasted. I thought it might be useful for future bookings.
The hotel we stayed at in Cape Town was excellent and I gave it a great review but in this respect I feel the organisation is lacking in structure. It was such a simple trivial matter and it should have been easily rectified. I’m not nit picking it’s a complaint that should have been taken seriously since as soon as I made the booking it told me to download the app. Easier said than done !
