Overstretched depot.
Asked for a 10am service as I live 2hrs away (common in Highlands), was sent a reminder for 8am. Arrived at 8am, nowhere to park staff filled car park and grass verge, didnt get sorted til 8.30. Reception staff wanted finish cigarette and to catch up with each other before the queue. Asked when to return and was told could be the following day as they weren't starting straight away. I called in the following day at 4:50 to see how it was going and was told works were complete. I got a train back down on Wed morning. Trains and walking home from station cost me £45 and 6 working hours as I live on a croft above Rogart. On arrival to collect the avenue into the yard was blocked with 3 cans waiting for service, and car park full of cars. Karen was helpful and the lady who was in charge of collections on arrival but it seems the premises are not fit for the volume of work.

Bad and worse
Wow just wow. How a provider of “fully maintained vehicles” can be so unhelpful when it comes to maintenance.
Firstly I went into branch with my van not going over 30mph as it had developed a fault putting it into a safety mode which is fair enough these things can’t be helped but when I went into Inverness with the vehicle I was told no sorry we can’t look at this because we have no mechanics? I thought they meant free at the moment to look at it but they genuinely mean no mechanics in the building as they can’t hire any so they will have to put it somewhere else in about 6 weeks time. I can either take the van away (impossible since it’s stuck at 30mph) or I can take a replacement electric small panel van??? I drive a Luton with a tail lift so what use is that to me? Told that’s my options take it or leave it I am not guaranteed a like for like.
Contacted my account manager who is based around 400 miles away who was so unhelpful I couldn’t believe it.
So here I am now with an unusable van paying rent for it and having to rent another one locally at 5 x the price. Absolutely not what I signed up for and will be taking further action to claim back my losses on this.
Don’t remember it being anything like this before
If anyone from northgate reads this please advise where to send my complaint as my account manager only tells me to send to her.

Not the best
I recently visited Northgate Vehicle Hire in Inverness and unfortunately had a very disappointing customer service experience.
The older grey-haired lady who was covering due to staff shortages was rude and abrupt throughout my visit. Her manner came across as dismissive and unprofessional, which made what should have been a straightforward interaction unnecessarily unpleasant.
What I found particularly inappropriate was that she attempted to diagnose the fault with my vehicle despite, as far as I am aware, not being a qualified mechanic. Making assumptions about a vehicle’s mechanical issues without the appropriate qualifications is unhelpful and frustrating, especially when customers are looking for professional service.
I also witnessed her speaking rudely to other members of staff, particularly the drivers. Seeing employees treated in that way created an uncomfortable atmosphere and reflected poorly on the branch.
I understand that staff shortages can put people under pressure, but that is not an excuse for poor customer service or disrespectful behaviour towards customers and colleagues. I hope management addresses these concerns and ensures everyone is treated with professionalism and respect

Friendly and Professional Service from Peter and Paul
Peter and Paul came to drop off a van from the fleet hire company Inverness, and they were honestly the nicest guys. Super friendly, helpful, and made the whole process really smooth. They took the time to show me everything I needed to know about the new van.which I really appreciated. On top of that, they cleared out my old van and packed it neatly in my new van saving me the hassle especially helpful since I’m working alone in the office and couldn’t leave. Really grateful for how easy they made it. Top service.
