I would not recommend Payment Assist
I would not recommend Payment Assist. I took out a loan to pay for an Access to HE course at Oxbridge College, but the college went bankrupt before I even started. I never received the course, yet I still had to repay the full loan. Because Payment Assist is based in the Isle of Man, I couldn’t get help from the English Financial Ombudsman, and the loan wasn’t covered by purchase protection. In my experience, customers are not properly protected if something goes wrong.

Having reviewed your agreement, I can see that we spoke with you in October 2025 regarding this matter. At that time, we advised that, following the merchant entering administration, you would need to submit a Proof of Debt form to the appointed administrators in order to register as a creditor and seek to recover any eligible funds.
Unfortunately, Payment Assist has no control over the merchant entering administration or the administration process itself. As the funds for your agreement had already been paid to the merchant, we were unable to issue a refund.
We also appreciate your comments regarding customer protection. Due to the type and term of the agreement you entered into, your loan was not covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
We understand this was a frustrating situation and appreciate it was not the outcome you were hoping for. However, we hope this helps to explain why we were unable to refund your agreement.

Awful customer experience
Really slow at responding to emails, not very helpful at all in regards to resolving issues, their website is old and shocking to use and login page has bugs.
This was over a period of 6 months and 2 separate payment schemes

Having reviewed your account, we can see that every email we received from you was responded to within 24 hours, and we have always tried to assist with your queries as quickly as possible.
In relation to your comments about our website, we recently launched a brand new website. During our correspondence, there appeared to be some confusion between our customer portal and your warranty provider's booking system. The links you requested were for booking a service, which is managed by your warranty provider rather than through Payment Assist, so unfortunately this is not something we are able to control.
If there is anything relating directly to your Payment Assist account that remains unresolved, please contact us and we will be happy to look into it further.

I was mis sold payment assist extended…
I was mis sold payment assist extended warranty from trade centre wales . The car is currently undriveable and a scotia independent inspection found the vehicle was of unsatisfactory durability at the point of sale . The car suffered a catastrophic engine failure . When I sold this warranty I was told it was for protection as I have the car on finance and in case of engine failures . 6 weeks later still no car warranty now not acknowledging responsibility telling me to go to dealership so why was I paying £59.99 per month I rang up to explain the car is undrivable why you charging me this As the warranty was mis sold and the car needs a new engine reply back was I had to prove it . I think a scotia report is proof . And as the car was unsatisfactory at point of sale I should never have been sold it . Avoid

We would like to clarify that Payment Assist did not sell you an extended warranty and is not the provider of the warranty cover. The warranty was sold by Trade Centre Wales, while Payment Assist's role is solely to provide the finance agreement that allows the cost of the warranty to be spread over monthly payments.
As such, we are not involved in the sale, administration or assessment of warranty claims, and we are unable to comment on the issues you have raised regarding the vehicle or the warranty itself.
We have also been unable to locate any contact from you regarding these concerns. If your complaint relates to the warranty, its sale, or the handling of your claim, this should be raised directly with Trade Centre Wales, as they are the appropriate business to investigate and respond.
In light of the above, we would kindly ask that you review your feedback and consider directing it to the business responsible for the matters you have described.

Beware.. Payment Assist...Think Twice..
This is a review of my personal experience after having taken a loan ID: 5388-34068 with Payment Assist(Conister Bank).
I am being bombarded with payment reminders and payment failed notices by Email and SMS from both Payment Assist and Conister Bank.
The loan I took was for a car service. The work to the value of the loan was not carried out. The company involved in arranging the work are proven scammers - there is plenty of evidence.
Payment Assist are resisting all arguments that they have a responsibility to their customer to protect them from fraud/scams. It is unacceptable and I will never pay for something that I never received.
Payment Assist constantly refer me back to the service provider(the firm that should have arranged for the work to be carried out). This is impossible as their customer service will not reply - the firm are fraudulent con merchants and scammers.
Payment Assist assert that they cannot act as mediators with the service providers. However, when I proved that the work was not done Payment Assist offered a lowered loan settlement figure so they must have acted as mediators.
I find Payment Assist negligent in this matter and would warn anyone to be very careful taking a BNPL loan with them. It is a scandal that they are still dealing with the scamming service provider (I am far from alone in being a victim of this fraud/scam).
As of 15.07.2026 the FCA Ombudsman will investigate cases like mine. Unfortunately, due to a loophole my case fell outside the regulations at the time i.e. Jan 2026

We're sorry to see that you remain dissatisfied with the outcome of this matter.
As previously explained, Payment Assist thoroughly investigated your complaint, and our position remains unchanged.
We would also like to clarify that this complaint has previously been referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service, which concluded that it was unable to consider the complaint as it fell outside of its jurisdiction. That decision remains unchanged. While you reference changes to the FCA's rules, these apply to finance agreements entered into from 15 July 2026 onwards and do not alter the position in relation to your agreement.
We appreciate that this has been a frustrating experience for you, but as the issues raised relate to the service provided by the merchant rather than the finance agreement itself, our position remains the same.
