Building Confidence Through Music – A Fantastic Experience
My daughter really enjoyed her Rocksteady sessions at school. They helped build her confidence, develop new skills, and gave her the opportunity to learn a lifelong talent through music. It's been wonderful to see her grow and enjoy being part of the band. Rocksteady…Rock Out!!
My son has been attending Rocksteady for 1 academic year now, as a Vocalist. He has performed in 3 concerts and has blossomed in confidence. He has sung solos and duets and really loves going to his Rockstready lessons. His Teacher, Sam, is great and really explains how he teaches and what they've been focusing on. I also love the little digital round-ups we get on his learning and skill progression. He looks forward to next academic year where he hopes to be able to try drums!

I was interested in signing my child up for music lessons, but the experience of trying to find basic information has been very disappointing.
The leaflet sent home from school contains virtually no useful information. There are no prices, no clear explanation of the lessons, and no essential details that would help parents make an informed decision. It feels like a missed opportunity and, unfortunately, a waste of paper.
I then visited the mobile website, hoping to find more information, but it was difficult to navigate and still didn't provide something as basic as a price list. Instead, it appears you're expected to provide your personal contact details before you can access the information you need, which I don't think is appropriate.
Finally, I contacted the company via WhatsApp to ask for the pricing and other basic details, but after 1–2 weeks I still haven't received a response.
For a company working in partnership with primary schools, I would expect clear communication, transparent pricing, and timely responses to parents' enquiries. I hope these areas can be improved, as the current experience doesn't inspire confidence.

Our daughter has LOVED her journey with…
Our daughter has LOVED her journey with Rock Steady. She started on the keyboard and then went on to vocals. Alister has been her teacher for the entire time and has been outstanding! The individual feedback he gives the children is wonderful and always so personal. He has a natural talent and has really inspired all the band members. Our daughter has finished her time confident and has been awarded a Drama scholarship to a local school and Alister has certainly been a big part of this journey, thank you for all you have done.

My child has taken part in Rocksteady at Brockswood for 3 years now and they absolutely love it. Daz is an amazing band leader who is really great with all the kids and who is very encouraging and supportive to them. He teaches them so well and makes it fun for them. The concerts that they do each term are fun and it is truly amazing how well the children do. They grow in confidence as they learn more and standing on a stage at any age can be nerve wracking but you can see their confidence grow with each concert they give. I would recommend Rocksteady to any parent, it has been amazing for my child.

My son has just had his 4th concert
My son has just had his 4th concert. He’s been playing guitar for about 2 years now and ended up transferring to rocksteady from private lessons after being gifted a term of it by the school as he loved it so much. I love watching his confidence on stage (he’s Sen and quite shy) but he loves his music and it shows. This term he completed a whole 4 min song and didn’t miss a single note. I would recommend rocksteady to anyone and bonus you get to complete your music qualifications as you go. He has done his pre-initial and initial and about to move on to his grade 1. Let’s see what next school year brings as he enters year 6. I wish they could continue into secondary as he truly loves it.

You can keep up to date with your child’s musical progress through Backstage, which is your very own dedicated parent portal. This includes a timeline that tells you when your child has learnt new skills, as well as termly Round-ups which are a visual summary of everything your child has been doing in band lessons.
You’ll also see how your child is progressing through Rocksteady’s exam-free, Ofqual-regulated music qualification, accredited by Trinity College London. This summary is also sent out as a 3-weekly digest email so you can receive updates straight to your inbox.

Rocksteady has been brilliant for my daughter Isla. She chose to sing and it has really brought out her confidence. We watched her third concert yesterday and each time she improves and grows.
She really enjoys her time with her band and Daz is great. Such a laugh and always has great fun with everyone.

Mack has been an amazing drumming…
Mack has been an amazing drumming teacher for my son. He can be quite reserved, but he warmed to Mack incredibly quickly, which speaks volumes about Mack's friendly and engaging approach. My son was very nervous about starting Reception, but Thursdays quickly became something he looked forward to because of his drumming lessons. Mack has definitely instilled a real passion for music in him, and I've been so impressed by his ability to connect with and engage the children. We couldn't recommend him more highly!

My daughter has really enjoyed her Rock…
My daughter has really enjoyed her Rock Steady sessions. She is generally a quiet, shy character, and has not played an instrument before, but now plays a few chords on the guitar, and was excited to perform in the summer concert. Clearly the teaching, the community, the sense of being in the band, and the occasion of the concert have worked their magic. We will happily continue her lessons in the next school year. Daz, the Rock Steady teacher at Bishop Wood School, clearly knows how to get the best out of kids.

Total waste of money at 40 odd quid
Total waste of money at 40 odd quid. My son has been taught barely anything and they have missed around 2 months of lessons due to nobody being available to teach the lessons. All I got was a £10 refund. I would avoid and get my son proper music lessons in the future.

My son has been doing this since October and I’ve got to say, what a waste of money.
The cost doesn’t change over Easter/xmas or half terms even though my son misses lessons when the school is closed, and he has missed at least 3 lessons due to rocksteady not having teachers available.
The school also lied and said it was an 8 week program but rocksteady didn’t schedule the first performance until March.
Overall almost £400 spent and my son had very very basic skills.
Absolutely rubbish.

Whenever a band leader is unable to teach a lesson, we will always aim to provide a cover teacher so the children's progress is not impacted. Unfortunately this isn't always possible, which is why your subscription guarantees a minimum of 33 band lessons and concerts across the academic year (or the equivalent based on when your child started Rocksteady). This minimum lesson number accounts for any band leader sickness that we are unable to provide cover for. On the rare occasion this number isn't this met, a credit or refund will, of course, be issued to make up the difference.
To explain a little more about our approach, Rocksteady teaches children to play music together as a band, focusing on fundamentals such as timing and synchronisation, alongside instrument technique and performance skills, working towards an exam-free music qualification accredited by Trinity College London. The termly concerts then give children the opportunity to put all this into practice in front of a supportive audience.
