At the RSPCA, we’re proud to be there for every kind— from pets in need to wild animals who need urgent care. Every day, our dedicated teams work tirelessly to protect animals, prevent cruelty, and offer hope in situations that are often distressing and complex. As a charity, we face difficult decisions about how to use our limited resources, and we must prioritise the most urgent and serious cases of abuse or neglect. This sometimes means we can’t attend every call, no matter how much we wish we could. When we’re unable to be there in person, we’ll help in other ways—offering you support, directing you to organisations that can help fast, and, when it’s safe, empowering you to take an animal to a vet. These shared efforts truly make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful for the kindness, patience, and support shown by the public. Together, we can continue to speak up for animals, protect those in need, and build a better world for every kind.

I’ve been a foster parent with the RSPCA Birmingham since 2019, and it has been an incredible journey. Having witnessed firsthand the extraordinary love and care they give to every animal, I can truly say they do amazing work. The team supports you through every single step and provides everything you need to succeed. I recommend it 1,000%

I've adopted from the RSPCA and had the opportunity to shadow an inspector. It's clear how much they care for the animals in their charge and for animals they are looking out for. The care staff and fosterers were so good with the kitties we have adopted. They truly care about the cats and who they are rehomed to. I could never do the inspectors' job. They see so much misery yet they are constrained by the laws of the land which means at times they can't do what they'd like to for animals in need. When they are able to, they take the necessary steps to help. I applaud the RSPCA for everything they do to help animals.

First I adopted a cat from our local RSPCA and was really impressed with the attention to detail of the adoption process and the focus on the animal needs as well as our situation and what we were looking for and what we could offer. We have a wonderful new family member now, our cat Sky. I then became an online volunteer and find it a brilliant experience in which I feel I am supporting an excellent organisation dedicated to makiing life better for all animals. Additionally there is great support and communication with us volunteers and it has added extra interest and focus to my week.

As a disabled person I have problems doing most voluntary work. As a Micro-volunteer (home computer user) I can do something to help animals in need.

I have reported a kennel I volunteered at to the RSPCA due to dog welfare concerns. They were quick to respond and although they couldn't share the full details with me, they did assure me they have investigated concerns, taken some action and were monitoring the kennel's implementation of their recommended improvements. They cannot attend every animal incident as they do not have many officers, especially in Wales and I respect they are doing all they can.

As a donator and volunteer, RSPCA make a great effort to do what they can with little resources. Personally, RSPCA have made a positive impact as a volunteer to help me gain experience for my future career in wildlife & conservation management.

I've had a few experiences with the RSPCA - I've adopted two of my dogs from them, I've fundraised for them (my local shelter featured me in their newsletter to say thank you), and I've reported an injured deer to them.
With the latter, they attended the site, found the deer and explained the deer had a broken pelvis. Unfortunately this meant the deer wouldn't survive, so they did the kindest thing and put it to sleep. I was so very grateful for them doing that, and not leaving the deer to suffer.
The two dogs I've adopted from them have been an absolute joy. I was given lots of support from the shelter, and I felt they really took an interest in helping us. I've had so many positive experiences with the RSPCA, and although they can't help every animal without receiving more funding, our animals would be a lot worse off without them.

As well as overt "on the ground" operations, the RSPCA are forefront in raising awareness via online and social media campaigns, often targeting lesser known issues (such as the call to ban commercial greyhound racing in the UK, the dangers of excessive temperatures or the importance of highlighting health issues in certain companion animals, who have been bred purely for aesthetic purposes). I have been very impressed by the information provided (as all animal welfare matters are very close to my heart) and which have always been relayed in an impactful but tactful way in order to best educate the public.

Reported a dog tied up to a tree on a very short lead, was told this is not a concern it's kept in the garden like this never taken for a walk and is aggressive when walking past.
I will never donate to them again!

My experience trying to help an injured baby deer on the A47 was deeply distressing and traumatic for both the animal and myself.
I found a frightened and limp baby deer by the roadside and immediately tried to do the right thing. After being bounced between 101 and 999 with the police failing to ever show up, I finally reached the RSPCA. Instead of receiving help, the call handler was completely rude and even laughed at me.
Even though I had pulled over with my hazard lights on to shield the deer from passing traffic, she complained that they were an hour away and told me to find a vet on a Sunday. When I pointed out that my job was to report the emergency and that coordinating help was supposed to be theirs, she brushed me off.
She transferred me to a vet who claimed they could not help because it was wildlife, and then asked me to pick up the injured baby deer and bring it in myself. I could not even do that because I had my dog in the car. Her final response was cold and incredibly upsetting. She stated that the deer would just have to stay the way it is and callousley mentioned something about utilising it, which clearly meant putting it down or leaving it to die.
It is heartbreaking that an organisation supposedly dedicated to animal welfare left a suffering animal to its fate while treating a concerned member of the public with utter contempt. I will never donate a single penny to the RSPCA again and I strongly advise everyone else to do the same.

Réponse de RSPCA (England and Wales)
I would give them zero if the system would let me.
An organisation with over 152 million in donations each year, with extra from our taxes and a bit more from our taxes via Gift Aid, and they refused to go check on a 6 different reports about 2 people who eventually got prosecuted by the police for animal abuse and cruelty. Only took 3 rabbits, 6 dogs and god knows how many others to starve to death in the house before they bothered themselves, and only because the paper was present.
Two Old English Game Fowl bantams were abandoned, suffering pesticide poisoning and severe malnutrition, and the response was: "oh, we don't deal with abandoned animals". Even if they are severely at risk, and a possible risk to the public. They told me they always tell people to just ring the police for abandoned animals.
I'm sorting it myself, and making a local welfare charity called Cornforth Animal Welfare Society. Someone has to do something, as the RSPCA will not.
They show up when there's a camera, or if they think there's a rare breed or horse they could easily sell on.

I really can’t praise The West Hatch Wildlife Centre enough. They are absolutely worth every penny of the donations they receive, and after my experience last week, I have even more respect and appreciation for the incredible work they do for our local wildlife.
Last week, I called them after coming across a young roe deer that had been hit by a car. He was badly injured, but I genuinely thought he might have a chance of surviving if he could get the help he needed quickly. Within just 20 minutes of my call, three members of staff arrived to help, as I live locally.
From the moment I contacted them, they were kind, caring and reassuring. They handled the situation professionally while also showing genuine compassion for both the deer and for me, as it was an upsetting thing to witness. They carefully transported the deer back to the centre so that he could be assessed and given the best possible chance.
Sadly, despite their efforts, he unfortunately didn’t make it. It was heartbreaking, but I take some comfort in knowing that he was no longer suffering, frightened or lying injured and alone at the roadside. Thanks to the team, he was given care and dignity in his final moments.
Thank you once again to the RSPCA and everyone at West Hatch Wildlife Centre for everything you do for our local wildlife. I know that you cannot save every animal, and I know how incredibly difficult it must be to deal with so many cases while working with limited staff, resources and funding.
Personally, I believe you do everything you possibly can with what you have. The dedication, compassion and commitment of your staff really does make a difference, even when the outcome isn’t always the one we hope for.
Please continue to support this amazing centre if you can. They are there when our wildlife needs help the most, and they deserve every bit of support and recognition they receive.
Thank you to everyone at West Hatch for all that you do. ❤️ 🦌

Called to ask for some advice about mother and cub foxes that have been living in my garage and appear to have severe mange. Although they ultimately directed me to somewhere I could get help the person I spoke to was extremely rude. They were blunt and made me feel like an idiot for not being able to find the information out for myself. I only contacted the RSPCA after emailing elsewhere and receiving no response but I won’t be contacting them again.

After previous bad experiences with feeling my call wasn't taken seriously or acted upon in the past, I have had a wonderful expierece with a lovely young lady. She has been following up my concern in person for 3 days in a row now. Today also being a Sunday and she is still out here an hour later waiting for the animal. Its now 19:00. I think her ID was Sarah or something. In Telford area. What a human you are. Well Done.

I am absolutely FURIOUS.
I reported a cat that had clearly been neglected and abandoned by its owners to the RSPCA because I genuinely believed they would step in and help. I raised concerns and asked them to investigate, yet apparently it wasn’t enough for them to take action.
Now that poor cat has been left vulnerable and has been killed and eaten by foxes.
How is this acceptable? I reported the situation because I was trying to get this animal help. I did my part. The RSPCA had the opportunity to investigate and chose not to.
That poor cat deserved better. It deserved someone to care enough to step in before this happened.
Thanks for absolutely nothing, RSPCA. What was the point of reporting the neglect if nobody was going to do anything about it?
I am heartbroken, angry and disgusted that this could have been prevented. That cat should still be alive.

Their advert says no animal deserves to suffer yet when we reported a injured herring gull and another time, a injured fox, they just didn't want to know. In the gulls case, they said gulls nothing to do with them and thix is from a charity that will help geese and swans that people love.
Their adverts are false so breached ths false advertising laws( eg they will leave animals to die in pain and choose which creatures they rescue on a species to species basis, hiding behind the excuse of cost which the adverts don't state!!).
If this doesn't change then the trading standards executive and advertising standards agency should investigate rspca for deliberate false advertising
