Spire Hospital Anlaby is Fantastic
I was very fortunate to be able to have my operation at Spire Anlaby. The treatment at Spire is excellent. All the staff are friendly and caring and professional. The hospital is well designed, clean and a calm environment. My care at Spire was fantastic.

Spire hospital in Southampton were utterly brilliant with every aspect of care I received for my recent knee replacement. From the preliminary diagnosis too the final operation I received fantastic service and the utmost profesionalism.
Good atmosphere and friendly staff.
From the minute I walked in to when I left I was treated as an individual. Brilliant place and great staff who care about the patients. Highly recommended for a great level of care.
Dr Arshad is an exceptional surgeon…
I have recently had surgery done by Dr Arshad at Spire Murrayfield. Dr Arshad is an exceptional surgeon whose expertise, precision, and genuine compassion were evident throughout my treatment.
He took the time to listen carefully to my concerns from initial consultation through to post op discussions as I was suffering from endometriosis and fibroids.
He explained each stage of the surgical process in a clear and reassuring way, and ensured I felt informed and confident at every step.
His meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful followup provided tremendous reassurance throughout my recovery. I am deeply grateful for the skill, kindness, and support he demonstrated throughout my care and his team. I highly recommend Dr Arshad.
Brilliant Long Term Quality of Service
When you have been consistently using a brilliant service twice weekly for nearly 5 months, you know it is no accident that the reception, members of staff you meet, Catering, House Keeping, Porters, Pharmacy, Oncology, MRI, Theatres are outstanding at Spire Healthcare Dunedin in Reading. Nobody wants to ever fall unwell. When it happens to you, you want a team of people who care and take away the most difficult part of your load. If it wasn't for that, I would not be positively managing the non clinical aspects of recovery as well. Thank you Dunedin and I hope more, choose you.
Very caring
Very caring, very professional, everything delivered as promised & expected. Staff were as kind & professional as could as one could hope for, 10 out of 10. Food not the greatest but that is a very minor gripe given that I was only in hospital for a single night.
Exceptional care and surgical treatment…
Exceptional care and surgical treatment from start to finish. Thank you to the highly professional Dr Liau and his team.

In 2023 I was unfortunate enough to be seen by a Mr k ballagan to perform eye surgery on me at spire hospital little Aston for an eye peel operation
After being told my surgery was at 2pm I sat in reception until 6pm when I was wheeled in to be operated on
.came out at 8.30pm when the hospital was closed and had to be let out by security!!
2 months after the operation I developed a cataract which was again performed at little Aston
During the 2 operations Ballagan left me with a detached retina
Which came off in due course and was operated on for this at new cross hospital on the nhs
3 operations on my eye when any skilled surgeon would have performed them altogether
I.am Now blind in that eye despite 2 years of him trying to codge it up and then discharging me to another hospital
After a long discussion with an experienced eye surgeon his conclusion is that Ballagan totally messed up
This is not so much a direct criticism of the spire hospital but they should monitor the people who work there rather than just use them to keep the money rolling in ..remember Ian Patterson..the butcher who went to prison after being convicted of his crimes while working at the Spire Little Aston
He was one of many who worked at the Spire who were rumbled for gross misconduct
If you want to go blind or get butchered then book yourself in at the Spire Little Aston
I raised a formal complaint with them at the time..but hey..guess what?
Closed ranks and denied any incompetence.
BALLAGAN Is a narcissistic money grabbing loner who works by himself without any secretaries to hide his arrogant superior attitude.
Sue me..take me to court for my comments..I have all the evidence I need to expose these corporate bustards
Just be careful out there

Not a good private hospital
underwent a procedure on my left hand/wrist at Spire's Solihull hospital, and both the ward experience and the clinical care fell well short of what I'd expect from a private hospital.
Room and facilities: The room I stayed in was dark and uninviting — the entertainment system didn't work, and the blinds were broken and had been taped together rather than repaired.
Ward care and communication: Nursing staff were slow to respond to calls. I wasn't kept informed about what was happening with my care or timeline. At discharge, staff seemed unclear on the process and I had to direct them on what needed to happen next, rather than the other way round.
Clinical incident — right arm: During the procedure, a cannula was placed in my right hand/arm that caused swelling and ongoing complications. Nine days later, I'm still in significant pain in both arms, and a vein in my arm remains hard/rigid. When I called the emergency line, I was told this was a phlebitis swelling that would resolve on its own. I asked for a scan and was initially told I could come in, but when I called again to book it, I was told a scan wasn't necessary.
Billing: I wasn't told in advance that I'd need to pay for my own medication despite having insurance cover — something I haven't encountered at any other private provider. I was prescribed codeine after the initial procedure and later antibiotics for the arm complication, and charged for both directly rather than through my insurer, meaning I now have to pay out of pocket and separately reclaim through my insurance.
Summary: Between the state of the room, poor communication, an unresolved clinical complication from the cannula, and being left to sort out billing that should have gone through insurance, this has been a genuinely poor experience for a private hospital stay.

Appalling service for paid private appointment
Booked at Washington Spire Hospital GP private appointment for my son, paid 110 pounds and was advised to be there 15mins early, i arrived at 10.15 for a designated time slot of 30mins with GP for 10.30. 90mins later after asking receptionists several times for updates we were finally seen by a Dr.
I would not recommend use of this hospital, as i paid money for private GP and was let down by the service with no reason other than the Dr was busy. Go to NHS hospital instead and have the same waiting time free...

Poor admin
I have an appointment tomorrow, so this review just records my experience of first contact and on-boarding with Spire Healthcare. The admin assistant who phoned me made several errors in recording my details, and in the appointment time, and did not explain the complex set up, in which I am both a patient of Spire (it seems) and of an independent consultant (who uses their own patient portal, not Spire's, and requires payment details in advance, despite those already provided to Spire). I feel confused who I am dealing with, which portal I should consult for letters, results, etc, and why both my title and GP practice are recorded incorrectly by Spire.
Update: here I am, at Spire Gatwick for my appointment. I was given a ipad to check my info, but it didn't work. So I've attempted to check in with the assistant at reception. They were unable to find a record of my appointment, despite my having an email confirming my appointment. So now I'm sitting in the waiting area, not knowing if the consultant knows I'm here.
Final update: despite reception being unable to find me on their records, the consultant did know about my appointment, and I was seen. As for Spire's response, below, no, I won't be repeating myself via the complaints process, I have nothing to gain from that. Nor do I imagine my experience will lead to change.

Dreadful post appointment admin
It is now four - yes four - weeks since I paid for and attended my GP appointment at Southampton with Dr Hodgkinson. Despite several email requests, and one or two “holding” replies, I have not received the promised report, nor has my NHS surgery. Awful administration and awful customer service. I’ve asked for my fee to be returned.

Surgery at Spire Harpenden
I recently had an overnight stay at Spire Harpenden for surgery. The whole procedure went smoothly. The Nurses were amazing, especially Grace and Milkha. My room was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed. I felt very well cared for and in safe hands. Catering team were also great and nothing was too much trouble. They even made sure my elderly father was looked after well, while he was waiting for me to return from surgery.
I was kept well informed from beginning to end of my stay. Thank you to all the staff on the ward and theater for making my procedure so comfortable and stress free, Dawn Mackay-Grant
