Stone Warehouse Avis 

Ordered a sample, money taken from account, delivery date on invoice say ‘no specific date’, no update on when it is arriving. Glad I only ordered a sample if this is the communication. I will be using a different local company for my order. But kept getting a request to review the order, without even receiving it. Hmmm

I ordered 50 × 20kg bags of Flat Silver Cobbles advertised as 60–100mm, costing £757.79, specifically because I needed larger cobbles for a landscaping project.

After opening the first two bags, I found what appeared to be a substantial quantity of significantly smaller material. Rather than continue opening the order, I stopped after those two bags, photographed the contents against a tape measure and contacted Stone Warehouse.

I fully accept that natural aggregates vary in shape and size and that grading does not mean every dimension of every stone will be between 60–100mm. My concern is the quantity of apparently undersized material, rather than an occasional smaller or split stone.

This distinction matters because Stone Warehouse's own sizing guidance says there can be a “minimal quantity” of smaller stones arising from the grading process and refers to an 8% tolerance for aggregates coarser than 10mm.

Unfortunately, after considerable correspondence, I have not been able to agree what I regard as a satisfactorily independent way of determining whether the product supplied actually conforms to that grading.

Stone Warehouse has offered to collect the remaining bags and says that if they themselves determine that the sizing is incorrect, they will provide a full refund. If they determine it is within range, however, they propose deducting £55 haulage from my refund.

That's the part I find particularly unsatisfactory. There is already a genuine disagreement between us about the product, yet the proposed resolution leaves Stone Warehouse receiving the goods back, assessing its own product and effectively deciding whether Stone Warehouse is at fault.

They have offered to video their assessment, which I acknowledge, and the customer-service representative I dealt with has remained polite throughout. My criticism is therefore primarily of the resolution process, rather than the individual member of staff.

I've retained the unopened bags and photographic evidence while I consider the appropriate next step.

For a purchase of nearly £760, this has been a very disappointing experience.

I will update this review if Stone Warehouse subsequently resolves the matter satisfactorily.

That wording is particularly defensible because Stone Warehouse's current sizing page does indeed say there may be a “minimal quantity” of smaller stones and expressly cites an 8% British Standard tolerance for aggregates coarser than 10mm

not mutch difference in stone size or colour all the same some were filthy covered in mud took us ages to sort and clean in our 80 s shattered didn’t send any notification as what time of morning delivered we were still in bed so that’s it not over happy

The stones that were delivered were total rubbish.suppose to be 4 to 10mm.
There were all different sizes right up to 40mm plus they were full of twigs leaves bits of rubbish.Spent so long sorting the stones gave up had them dumped then repurchased from another supplier.Plus they were delivered on a broken pallet that fell to bits and couldn’t be moved of the road took 15 minutes to get the pump truck out from under the pallet.£200 wasted pea shingle at the fraction of the cost would of been better.
Nothing golden about these stones.my worse delivery of stones in 30 years of landscaping.
