I like it !

Overall, it seems like a decent site, with up to date info and a good number of reviews on tech stuff that I like to keep up on. But as with any product that you may be considering buying, it is always best to read reviews on it from many different sources, and then decide which one(s) you think are the most accurate and/or unbiased.

I really like the flashback articles they post about old, obsolete or "who made it1st/when was xxx invented" tech, which reminds me of days gone by and gives some insight as to where we stand nowadays in terms of progress (or not).

However, I have never bought anything from their webstore, as I tend to seek out my own (independant) sources for stuff I buy.

Disgusting Experience. Didn’t Forget It for YEARS! Mods were rude and doxxed an underaged girl.

I posted my review years back on Sitejabber but I figured I’d add it here too. I’m sure a lot has changed but I’ll try to write what I could remember. In the early 2000s, this was one of the website that left a bad taste in my mouth so I never forgot them. Back in the days, getting any tech support was difficult since the internet just started booming. TechSpot was one of the websites that broke through that barrier and was great! Up until you have a problem and communicating with them is impossible.

Years ago, when I was 18 years old, I had a 16 year old friend who had an application issue that couldn’t be solved and there weren’t solutions elsewhere. Made an account on TechSpot, asked nicely through the forums, and before the post received even three responses, a troll user claimed he was able to hack, therefore, the thread was locked and closed.

Some time later, coincidentally, but not connected NOR was TechSpots fault, my friends personal information was compromised. At 16 years old, with no bank accounts, no actual ID, no credit information, someone still decided to use her home number and physical address to harass her with subscriptions, phone calls about debt, loans, and sometimes even adult-rated content. Her username (which was partially her full name and wasn't a common one) was used on TechSpot was hijacked and used elsewhere on other websites to leave fake rude messages, responses and reviews for various products. Keep in mind that this was the mid-2000s where there was no social media, no influencers, no Twitter or Facebook so using your full name was very uncommon behavior.

Nevertheless, when my friend KINDLY asked in the TechSpot forums, if theres a way to remove her account for security reasons, they could’ve simply told her no, because the account was created using an old forum/bulletin platform that doesn’t have the option to remove accounts. Instead, not only were the Mods condescending, but downright rude.

When we decided to go on another website to see if theres a way for account removal on websites, we did NOT once badmouth TechSpot, only mentioned it as one of the websites. Yet, a TechSpot mod that, so happened to be on that website, saw the question, then copied and pasted it back to TechSpot forums. S/he then left a response under it basically stating my friend is an idiot and allowed others to join and criticize her. The mod embarrassed and bullied a 16 year old over literally NOTHING. It caused her a lot of emotional distress and she felt humiliated! Adding to the fact that the forum is public and the bullying was literally on the first page of search engines which was super embarrassing. It was close to Reddit-level bullying. I’ve tried to report this experience to TechSpot multiple times in the past with no response. I even wrote to their “CEO”, again no response.

Some time later, a few more users asked for account removal for whatever reason. The users asked why it wasn’t an option. I stepped in just suggesting maybe they could change to a more versatile platform in the future, and the mods basically called me "a moron despite having a college education". I was so done!!! I logged out and never went back to this website again. Bottomline, these Mods have the privilege to be nasty to people while sitting behind a computer screen. Same people who are probably washed out right now playing Fortnite and getting trolled on by 10 year olds. Then, I got a message/email from their “customer service” where they tried to play it off and responded to my review elsewhere claiming they weren’t responsible for the behavior of their mods and other users... you guys are more almost 2 decades too late!

They test a cherrypicked monitor from…

They test a cherrypicked monitor from LG (LG 24GL600F) and explain how it has 'no issues' when using freesync with Nvidia GPUs. I come along, use the same monitor model and same Display Port cable (linked in their review), and have severe flickering.

This inclines me to believe that Techspot are indeed biased when there is a hidden agenda involved, and will simply not be honest at times.

for a "tech news" site its not…

for a "tech news" site its not bad...decent even. HOWEVER - be warned - DO NOT click on ANYTHING from their "techspot" store....even if it looks like a fantastic deal. this "store" is full of straight up junk!!! they will advertise great prices on "learn to program" packages 95% off!!! but when you buy them, all of the "courses" are 5+ years old, use versions that are no longer supported, or viable, and you can't get a refund.

read only - never buy here.

These guys have an agenda.

Biased and unprofessional. Results often clash with other sites and there are obvious fallicies in some of their testing. Looking at comments it appears they delete opinions they dont like, cant confirm that though.

Techspot.com: PC self help

Techspot.com is a community site which assist users with installation, configuration and problem solving primarily for PCs. (There are small groups of Mac & Linux users, but the site is clearly biased toward PCs). There's lots of value add, but imo the core value of the site is the user forums (/community/) where some twenty classifications of subjects (hardware, software, ask question, virus removal,...) are available.

Experienced members come in all flavors and some are truly "Experts" and you can tell by the quality and quantity of solutions being offered.

Site is mobile device tolerant.

Yes, I participate but have only a "member" status to this site.
