We brought our daughter to the high school we selected for her ACT exam, only to be told upon arrival that her testing location had been changed to a school over an hour away. We received no email, no phone call, no notification whatsoever. Nothing.
Parents invest time, money, and emotional energy preparing their kids for this important day — tutoring, scheduling, planning, and getting them mentally ready. To show up on the scheduled date and be turned away like that is beyond frustrating — it’s completely irresponsible.
I’ve since heard this happens far too often. That is not okay. An organization responsible for something this important should have better systems in place. Families deserve clear communication and accountability.
A bad review doesn’t even feel like enough.
ACT is a money grab and a joke
What a scam this company is for our youth and their parents. Parents pay for testing, we buy books and hire tutors to help test higher.
THEN we have to pay ACT each time we want the test scores sent to a school. Mind you, you never know WHEN the test results will actually be sent. It could be days, weeks or months. You receive confirmation of payment, but not that results were actually sent and received by the university.
WHY does it take so long for them to be sent in this digital age? Why is there not a portal for schools, to be able to go in and grab test scores anytime they wish?

My name is Ceri Wait, and I would like to file a formal complaint. I will also be sending this notice to the OCR and ADA.
On December 10, 2025, our daughter was denied accommodations for her ACT test scheduled for this Saturday. The stated reason for this denial was that the name on her registration is listed as Jocelyn Wait, while the paperwork submitted by her school counselor lists her as Jocelyn Miel Wait.
I was also told that her high school’s name was not listed on her registration. I was unable to access the registration to confirm this; however, I can document that I was notified that her test site had been changed from Snow Canyon High School to Dixie High School, and that her accommodation request was sent to Snow Canyon High School. A timeline is provided below.
Timeline of Events
1. Registered for the ACT in early September (registration date available).
2. I contacted her high school counselor on November 10, 2025, to confirm accommodations. She stated she would look into it and that it should not be a problem.
3. On December 9, 2025, counselor Rochelle Larsen emailed me the accommodation paperwork, including the TAA personal identification number JJAX5QKT.
4. Ms. Larsen advised me to reach out to Dixie High School to confirm accommodations.
5. When I contacted Charlie Kerr at Dixie High School on December 9, 2025, he stated that our daughter was on the roster without accommodations.
6. The following day at 10:00 a.m., I contacted ACT Accommodations. After speaking with three individuals over nearly two hours (Darin, Matthew—supervisor, and Deja—manager), I was told that the best ACT could offer was testing with accommodations in February at no additional charge.
Consequences
This proposed solution significantly harms our daughter. She will be unable to submit her college applications on time with the ACT score she has prepared for since the free statewide ACT test last March. She will not be considered for many scholarship opportunities because they require timely test results, often reviewed on a first-come, first-considered basis. This delay could cost our family thousands of dollars and has disrupted her academic timeline.
Our daughter has a valid accommodation letter, yet she is unable to test because of a four-letter discrepancy beyond our control. This is not discrimination; it is a systemic deficit that fails to support students with medical needs and restricts access to disability accommodations. The inability to link accounts or reconcile name variations is outdated and has significant educational and financial impacts. Her ACT account includes her photo, and she has her driver’s license to verify her identity.
I asked whether I could reach out to Mr. Kerr at Dixie High School to determine whether an accommodation room and proctor were already available. I was told that rosters were finalized and that nothing could be done—no efforts made and no flexibility offered.
I sincerely hope no other parent or student has to navigate this experience. I have all documentation available and am happy to provide it.
Recommendations
1. Allow accounts and documentation to be logically and securely linked.
2. Notify parents and students at least two weeks in advance regarding accommodation status to allow time to resolve issues.
3. Make reasonable efforts to support students—especially those with medical conditions—in testing successfully and on schedule.
4. Ensure that the student, parent, and school counselor understand and confirm the exact name used on both registration and accommodation paperwork.
I would like to reiterate: this is a systemic deficit that does not serve students with medical needs and restricts disability accommodation.

Cancel test without warning, make up excuses for why they canceled and give you two or three different excuses. Can’t prove any correspondence (they say the email but don’t can’t prove it) and have terrible customer service. Canceled my daughter’s test and refused to refund.

Please make your tests more fair and rewarding. I took the June ACT, and even with the time and a half accommodation, I still ran out of time for every section. Forcing someone to complete the English section (75 questions) in an hour is insane. The reading section was 60 minutes for 60 questions. The math section was horrendous, with more than half of the problems not content from all practice tests. I believe that I did really well on the science section; but I only got a 23! You have an opportunity to make this right. If not, you just lost a customer for life.
ACT testing - shady business
ACT can cancel your test site after you've booked and paid. They can reassign you to another test site a week or less before the test date AND it can be significantly further away (30 minutes travel time from original booked test site.) They put the responsibility on you to login and check that your test site is still your test site. Honestly, it's been such a negative experience that it's hard to recommend it as a viable option.

Poor, inefficient customer service
ACT.Org was a non-profit until last year. Not surprisingly, it's become less customer-focused.
I've had email replies from no fewer than 4 different representatives from what I believe is a call-centre, replying to the same question, but with no answer. It's frustrating and will likely lead to a shift in more students pursuing the SAT.

Be warned!!!!!!! The test company is separate from the study material company. I called ACT customer service, was rerouted to a separate company that handles the study material, was told I would get a refund as the book had not been sent. Received the study book and was told in another phone call that they made a mistake telling me there would be a refund. Terrible customer service !!!! DO NOT BUY THE STUDY MATERIAL!!!!!

I incorrectly registered my son for ACT accommodations in December so he took the test anyway. I contacted ACT to find out how to make adjustments for the February test. They instructed me to fill out the forms to add what I needed for the accommodations. Now, they say that the forms submitted will replace the accommodations instead of being added (which they told me the first time). It is also too late to change them and they could be changed if they are reviewed by ACT quickly but they won’t expedite the review. Long story short - another test with incorrect accommodations and they won’t do anything to help.

We have paid to have my son's test scores sent to 11 schools and many of the schools do not have them 10 days later. Some of the schools have the wrong scores. It's nearly impossible to get to a supervisor. The last supervisor told me to have the schools call THEM to learn how to properly export scores. I asked and the schools won't called ACT on my son's behalf so we are stuck in purgatory. Insane that he spent so long studying for the ACT and now they can't even get the correct scores sent to his admissions portals. I am LIVID. ACT should be out of business.

Both my sons took ACT back in March,we got their scores online but only one received a copy of the results in the mail in May. I've been trying to get another one sent for my son, and wasted 15 minutes verifying the account to only get told order online and good luck with that was the agents response. What? My personal experience with ACT is very worse with their sales person Imran handeling sales in Jarahara Area of Indira Nagar, Lucknow. He sold me the connection that at first time have to pay for 3 months in a single go because we are new joinees for them and then later on can switch to monthly services also if I want, which were of 2 types, speed plans. and entertainment plan, i opted for entertainment plan. And now when I asked them the way of switching to monthly recharge of Entertainment plan, they are saying that there never exists any plan for monthly recharge in this price range for entertainment plan. Jabki mere paas abhi bhi unka send kra hua chart h jisme mentioned ki 649 k monthly rchrg entertainment plan ka hoga or 549 kvl net ke liye. ACT worst customer service
On June 20th I signed our son up for the July testing to try for higher score before August. I paid the test fee plus a $38 late sign up fee. We had him tested for ADHD in late May and we’re waiting on that. After he was signed up we emailed the additional accommodations form. All of this from my email. Last week one week before test date he received an email he was turned down for special accommodations. Ok but when still needed to take the test we paid for. I had him call the number and he was told to he was not set up with a testing center and would have to go in September. We literally paid extra to test in July? So I call I got one nice human that said they are aware September is past the deadline for colleges and yes he should still have a testing center. She transferred me to accommodations but I got disconnected. Called back for another 30 minute hold and two extremely unhelpful and rude ACT representatives one a supervisor named Fiona. When I asked to be transferred they purposely put me on hold for 40 minutes then said they needed him there again with me. I called again next day and was told we somehow should have known to schedule a new test with them without accommodations but it was already to late. I NEVER received any communication from ACT to the email after the 6/20 sign up that A he was not approved for accommodations or B that he needed to call and reschedule however even when he did call they blew him off

Horrible customer service, no common sense to assist in reasonable solutions to accommodate changing test dates/locations when a location was changed that was out of our control. Cancelled test due to photo not being uploaded of our child but they never contacted parents about this issue and left it up to our 15 year old to resolve without our knowledge. My son has type 1 diabetes and has an alarm for when his blood sugar goes low and he needs to eat something to avoid passing out. ACT does not accommodate this at most locations and expects us to drive an hour or more to be accommodated. This should be available at ALL locations. Also, i signed him up over the phone for the test with no writing and they charged me for a test with writing at $93.00. I told them I didnt want the writing and they would not take the cost of the writing portion off.
