Smooth efficient service very professional

A great service from start to finish from all staff

Everyone went out of their way to be respectful, kind and attentive. It made an incredibly hard time more bearable. Kelly was really helpful and sensitive to our needs. The ceremony at Harwood Park went very smoothly. It is a beautiful setting.

The compassion and professionalism during this difficult and sad time was a great help to us all.

Austins in Hoddesdon arranged the funeral for my mother, Mrs Vera Morley, on 8th May. Mum was 101 at her passing but her age didn’t make us as a family feel any less emotional in the circumstances. It is always such a difficult time. Part of my feelings were helped by Mum’s often jokey reference to how nice Austins looked in the High Street whenever we went out for a coffee, and how I wouldn’t have to go far to make arrangements. So that is where I went 😊

As it happens the lovely premises did help as the office is such a calm and comfortable place to plan the funeral. Above all though we received such a seamless service from Tina. She was utterly professional throughout, very patient with occasional indecision on my part, always presenting a ‘can do’ approach with any issue, and constant good advice. She was also able to judge when a light touch or gentle humour was appropriate. She really didn’t put a foot wrong.

I should also say that the back up service in designing the service booklet, and arrangements for music at the service, was incredibly efficient. We couldn’t believe how good the service booklet looked based on our draft. This incidentally was turned around in 24 hours or less.

On the day of the funeral Gary and his team helped and guided us through, with Gary calling me the evening before to confirm arrangements. As the cars travelled along the High Street Tina came out and stood respectfully as we past. Again Gary and his colleagues were so respectful.

Lee and the rest of the funeral team were so kind, patient, and compassionate throughout the day. They gently talked us through everything and took away so much of the stress and worry I had been feeling beforehand.

What really stood out to me was the genuine respect and reverence they showed towards Dad and throughout the service itself. It never felt like they were simply doing a job — they treated him with real dignity and care, and that meant a great deal to me. It truly felt like they wanted to give him the respectful send-off he deserved.

Tina in particular helped arrange both funerals, and I found her to be a delight and breath of fresh air, she listened to what I wanted and delivered to the T.

We used the Hitchin branch and I cannot thank Caroline enough for the help she gave in ensuring my mother was given a wonderful send off. I must also mention Lee who also ensured the funeral went off seamlessly.

Austin’s handled the funeral for my brother-in-law, who sadly died very suddenly, and I honestly cannot thank them enough. They took what was a truly horrific situation for our family and made it as manageable and comforting as it possibly could have been.

The funeral home itself is modern, beautiful and incredibly peaceful. As awful as these circumstances are, they created the best environment possible for families going through the hardest moments of their lives.

But I especially need to mention Nicola, our celebrant. She was absolutely incredible. From the moment we met her, she made it her priority to truly get to know our family so the service felt sincere, personal and completely from the heart. She somehow managed to take such heartbreak and make the service uplifting, warm and full of love and laughter exactly as Jason would have wanted.

Nicola adapted to all of our needs and completely led by our beliefs and wishes throughout. So much so that heartbreakingly, just two weeks later, we needed her again for my Mum’s funeral. My Mum was Catholic and Nicola has once again been unbelievably understanding, accommodating and supportive in every possible way. She is still supporting our family now.

Austin’s, thank you not only for your kindness and professionalism, but also for bringing Nicola into our lives. We will never forget it.
