I am self employed which required more work and documents. It was a long process, but my mortgage broker (Robert Lightbourne) was flexible and easy to work with.
Worst company ever. Very unresponsive, they do not answer emails or inquiries in a timely manner. They have wasted my time.
Need to follow up a lot. Double check your contracts every step of the way

Avoid Better.com and Loan Officer Lonnie Johnson. We experienced a predatory bait-and-switch right after "locking" our rate, spending hours prepping our home, and paying a $590 appraisal fee.
Once Better.com had our money, their underwriters suddenly couldn't do basic math—bizarrely claiming a borrower making $600/month was secretly paying over $4,000/month across two separate mortgages. Instead of escalating this obvious system error to management for a manual override, Lonnie Johnson used this manufactured "problem" to suddenly tack on over $2,000 in discount points just for us to keep our "locked" rate.
A rate lock with Better.com means *absolutely nothing* once they collect your appraisal fee. They will trap you, change the terms, and refuse to fix it. Save your money and your sanity—go literally anywhere else.

Michael helped me complete the final stages in enabling my loan.. At 75 years old and handling this loan with a "Trust" included their guidance made things so much easier.
If anyone is in need of a loan/HELOC, it recommend Better Mortgage

Let me preface my review by stating that I was involved in rental property management and sales for over 40 years and have done dozens of purchase and refinancing real estate loans. The Better loan process was straightforward but a bit slow. My financial situation is complex and required LOTS of extra documentation. Took about three weeks and several hundred pages of documentation to get to loan approval. Meghan was great loan coordinator! Form letters company used really didn’t apply to my situation and caused more confusion rather than being helpful. Title company used doesn’t respond to questions and there was confusion about which payoffs were wire transfers and which were checks. All-in-all I would rate Better as a B+ or A- lender.

Everything is online. You can scan documents and upload them. Scheduling a call is convenient.

The AI assisted process made it extremely easy to apply and provide documents. I’m a senior citizen and still had a positive experience completing tasks just using my phone! The only issue I had was with AI searching my credit history which turned up several errors which I was able to explain and rectify. It was a fast, efficient process to obtains a HELOC loan.
