A bit of a cheek!
As I paid for my purchase at my local Cancer Research shop this afternoon the cashier asked if I wanted a lottery ticket. I declined. Then, without telling me how much my purchase was, she asked if I wanted to 'round up' my payment! I was a little surprised and asked how much my shopping total was. It was only a few pence but I declined as I donate to charity regularly. She looked up at me with absolute contempt! I know that times are hard but is this really an acceptable way to raise more cash? If I had wanted to add a donation to my payment I would have told her!
Purely a business..
(Can’t give Zero stars)
People need to see through this ‘fighting cancer facade’. When calling and emailing for help and information for my terminal son I never had the courtesy of the indicated call back and my emails fell on deaf ears with no responses, ever!
So much for ‘together’, maybe together with big pharma to ensure good wages and direct the finances where they want it.
I’ll tell you what they’re beating.. Nothing!
Millions of pounds to remain virtually static in treatment efficacy for 20 years is nothing to brag about.
£690 million income last year, it’s a real shame none of that seems to go into funding the new thinkers or metabolic approaches or clinical trials on non patentable compounds.
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is a definition for something I believe??
You may have gathered, I wouldn’t give them a penny with the treatment/response (rather lack of) I had.
I’d say give your money to MacMillan instead, those conscientious nurses do great work for the unfortunates who need the palliative care.
The woman who manages this branch of…
GOLDERS GREEN BRANCH
The woman who manages this branch of Cancer Research should not be allowed to deal with the public. Her manner is simply very, very rude.
The young volunteers are lovely. Just the blonde woman with the glasses has appalling manners. I ask myself how they can work with such a rude person.
I live locally and visit this branch very often - at first I thought it was a one-off, but I realise she is always abrupt and disrespectful. Please ask her to work in the back room as she will just put people off from buying or donating. There are plenty of charity shops in the area and volunteers in each and every one of them are always approachable and kind.
I visit charity shops all the time and I have a standing order with Macmillan cancer centre and Cancer Research.
Please consider sending this woman on a course where she learns to deal with customers with decency and in a civilised manner. She is not fit to represent a charity that is the emblem of such an important cause.
I shall not donate, nor shop there again.
Unhappy staff
I donated unused picture frames included some pictures, clothes, bags and dressed jewellery today, staff very abrupt, and no smiley face. Do not wish to go there again.

The Sheppey Cancer Research store is lovely. Easy to donate (although be aware there are restrictions) and the staff are lovely. It’s been really nice to have a store that adds to a sense of community and we’ve enjoyed going there to both donate and to purchase. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers there for your friendly smiles!

The charaty shops are getting greedy I think thay have forgotten that they are hear to help people they're a charity shop but don't see no charity to help the UK public people and you never see them telling people how much money is coming in and where it's all going
Unpleasant and rude
Sad to see the low rating for this charity and even sadder to add another 1 star review. St. Andrews b ranch, Sunday 1.9.2024. Unpleasant and rude volunteer (large middle-aged woman). I'm saying this because I don't want the other volunteer - young man to feel accused). Felt very uncomfortable even just being in the shop. Asked if she could keep a dress for me for 1 (yes, one hour). NO. Incidentally, all the other charity shops in St. Andrews could keep items for one hour and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Extremely awful experience with Cancer…
Extremely awful experience with Cancer research furniture delivery service. Their driver blatantly lied to me when I asked at the time of purchase in their shop if he was OK transporting my purchased furniture up one flight of stairs, this man said ok and then added he'd call me in the morning of the delivery date. On the day, he never rang and turned up at my property in a bad mood and started leaving a heavy dressing table on my doorstep. I said I'd cleared the stairs for him and he started shouting at me saying "I told you I only do doorstep delivery, I never told you I'd go up the stairs." I challenged him back saying I asked him in the shop at the time of purchase and he said it was ok to go up the stairs. This man kept denying the truth of what he'd agreed to and even tried to convince me this interaction never took place and then said it wasn't him I spoke to, it was someone else. I was absolutely shocked the way he was gaslighting me and tried to make me look like a liar. He even had the nerve to say its my word against his. When I told him this was absolutely unprofessional of him to go back on his word, he started threatening to put my furniture back in his van and said I wouldn't be getting my money back for the delivery, but only the item if I wasn't happy. He even tried to paint himself as a victim saying he had a "bad experience taking a delivery upstairs" and I reminded him that this was never mentioned to me at the point of sale, not one of their employees told me their policy is doorstep delivery. This man had the audacity to say that it was none of my business, even though he brought this up himself. I have reported this matter to Which as I was lied to and given false information. This driver had a bullying attitude towards customers and has no decency to speak politely in front of young children. He caused us a lot of stress and his horrible behaviour upset my young son who saw him yelling and arguing with me. I have reported this matter to Which as lying to customers before taking their money for a service is unethical business practice and out of order.
Dogs not welcome. Bye.
Strange policy. Not remotely dog friendly (except for assistance dogs) in our surrounding rural market towns, and therefore no admission permitted - even to make purchases or leave donations.
We visited 4 different charity shops today around the same Market square and was only refused entry with our dog on her lead by Cancer Research.
Our monthly standing order donation will now be channelled elsewhere, to a more progressive and welcoming charity.
My husband and I go to the larger store…
My husband and I go to the larger store on Newport Road, Cardiff every week as they often get good quality furniture. Yesterday we bought quite a large armchair which we thought would fit in our car but no it didn't. Adam the manager tried and tried then Adam said come on let's try my car a perfect fit. He actually brought it home for us. How many would do that? Also Adam has a brilliant sense of humour. 101% genuine, nothing too much trouble man. Thankyou.

Hosted an event here and it may have caused the end of an historic association!
Poor organisation!
I've volunteered at Cancer Research for 2 years
I've volunteered at Cancer Research for over 2 years now, and I can certainly say that the staff, atmosphere, reasonability and overall efficacy of the shop, and it's values, are very strong.
Absolutely apaling admin
Absolutely apaling admin. Website doesn't work properly , throws errors. Called their donation line, get cut off 5 calls out of 8, the people I am speaking to know my number but don't return my call. People promise to call me back and don't, almost a full day wasted. Took me 2 minutes each to set up direct debits for 10 other charities. Am about to give up and send my money elsewhere.
Brusque sales assistant
Brusque sales assistant . You would think a volunteer would be a rather friendlier person.

Shop - Linwood
Was in the shop at The Phoenix Retail Park - Linwood Renfrewshire. First visit & won’t be back. Volunteers laughing loudly in the back. Lady commented to myself on how loud the laughter was. She did speak to either a staff member or volunteer about how off putting the loud laughter was. Some of the ladies tops had marks on them & overpriced! Does the clothing & footwear not get checked before put out for sale? No idea how they work out pricing. Some items are underpriced & some are way overpriced. Crime & Romance Books are just shoved in on the shelves. No order to them. When l went to pay for my items. Volunteer came from the back with items she has obviously kept for herself from donations. Two piece baby outfit brand new. Looked designer. £1.00! Couldn’t believe she was only paying £1.00! Everything she had she said was £1.00 each! If that had been items l had donated ld have been so angry! £1.00 for brand new items still with tags on! Volunteer underpays & customers overpay! No way to manage donations & a charity shop! Even heard volunteers discussing what donations had been handed in very openly. Lady serving on the till had to ask for someone to come on the other till. As large queue & was busy. Obviously disturbed them talking. Was as if it was a bother to come onto till & help get the queue down.
