Coaltown big bags good value
Chose to go to Coaltown as an alternative to my usual roaster Carvetii here in the Lake District. Was impressed by the price of the 1kg bags which were quite good value. The 200g bags though were way too expensive compared to Carvetii or Whittards. Bought Black Gold and Candle Light whole beans. Only tried the Black Gold so far. Quite an earthy, dirty taste. But flavourful and characterful. Grinds well. Quite a lot of coffee bean needed per cup. Overall I like it!

Coffees bang on! Very tasty! Delivers never been late can’t fault. Been using coal town for a while now used many online coffee roasters this is my hands down favourite

Not a great experience, latte course good
Not a great experience. Coaltown products are really quite expensive and the quality isn't what it used to be. We went to one of their events which was quite disappointing. It was advertised as 'Sips and Sounds', so we had imagined that there might be some coffee tasting, but that wasn't the case. The latte art course was very good, informative and interesting. I just think that more could be done at Coaltown events.

We’re sorry to hear that the overall event didn’t meet your expectations. Sips and Sounds is advertised as a cocktail and music night rather than a coffee cupping experience, so while coffee is available to purchase from the bar, structured tasting isn’t part of that particular event format. We do host dedicated coffee cupping evenings in partnership with our wholesale partners and these are promoted via our events page on our website and socials. We’d love for you to join us at one of those in the future if that’s of interest.
In terms of pricing, the global cost of coffee has risen significantly in recent years. We remain committed to paying farmers fairly for their product, as we source speciality coffee. Also we operate as Living Wage employers, so unfortunately that does mean we have to reflect industry-wide increases in our pricing. Maintaining quality and ethical sourcing continues to be extremely important to us.
We are genuinely saddened to see that your overall experience was rated two stars but we do appreciate the honest feedback and will take your comments on board.

I have still not received my coffee ordered 2nd Feb
On speaking to Coal town on Tuesday 10th . they're very helpful turned out it was parcel Force who had left the delivery in our garden around the back without leaving a note to tell us it was there. It was there for 5 days.

Exactly the kind of coffee you buy as a treat
I bought Black Gold No.3 as a birthday treat to myself and it delivered.
I brew it in a Moka pot with fresh organic whole milk most mornings. There’s a definite biscuit-chocolate thing going on, and it’s smooth without tipping into bitterness or heaviness.
It’s become part of my morning ritual — the coffee I actually look forward to rather than just drink. No hype, no gimmicks. Just very good coffee. I’ll be ordering it again.
