Hand rails
I don't usually write reviews but in this case I willingly make an exception.
The standard of product, administration and service is to be commended. Gates and Railings are to be complimented in the way the whole company seeks to satisfy customer needs in a friendly and effective manner.
It's a real pleasure dealing with them and a refreshing change from so many others in our cut throat world.

A great company !
When ordering good communication, delivery was quick and when it was supposed to be. Very good quality product. I have had my railings and gate over 2 years now no issues and the coating all still good. The latch for the gate broke (water got in the solder I think) they responded to my email within an hour and posted a replacement on the same day. I am so glad I ordered from them and can't recommend enough.

I have nothing but praise and 5 stars for this family-run company and I assure you I am a genuine customer who has not been solicited. During this year during Covid lockdown, it has been virtually impossible to get hold of a good steel fabricator that would be willing to come out and measure up some railings and handrails that I needed for my back patio. I stumbled across Gates Railing direct and apprehensively called them not knowing what to expect.
I have to say that the moment they picked up the phone, I was passed through to Anthony Bretell who couldn't be any more professional, courteous and helpful. He patiently listened to my requirements and requested that I send him over some pictures which I duly did together with measurements. After emailing over the drawing, Anthony was very quick to spot that one of my calculations didn't look right and immediately got back to me - he was spot on and indeed I had accidentally measured something incorrectly but this taught me how competent he was. What's more, at no point did I feel that Anthony was giving me a hard sell. I am quite a fussy customer who wants everything done to perfection and this in no way put him off. If anything, I could see the pride that him and his staff take in their workmanship and customer interaction.
When it came to pricing, I was pleasantly surprised by the 000's of pounds worth of savings in the estimate that Anthony gave me versus 2 other local companies that had quoted me verbally over the phone for the same drawing of works.
When I started digging further though, it was obvious that the savings were genuine since Anthony was prepared to back up everything he was telling me over the phone with sample pictures of his work on other projects which he promptly emailed over.
It became clear to me through our conversation that he was genuinely interested in me being a happy customer versus my money. Although it would be several weeks before the railings could be manufactured, I have to say that Anthony pulled out all the stops to deliver the railings when he had promised he would. Also, I believe the delivery driver was the same one mentioned in one of the reviews below. I have to say that I really don't know what happened there since my experience of the same delivery driver was that he was friendly, helpful and very amenable and accommodating.
Anthony had an issue where his main fabricator then met with an unfortunate accident to his hand and had to be off work for some weeks to allow recovery. Despite this, Anthony not only communicated this upfront and was very apologetic about the delay this would cause on the handrails but he then made some calls behind the scenes to get the handrails over to me as soon as he could thereafter.
Once more, I was absolutely delighted when these were delivered to me. Not only was the quality of the finish outstanding but you could tell that the thickness of the steel used was far superior to other railings that I have had in the past installed at my home by local fabricators.
It goes without saying that I am an extremely happy and deligted customer who has a beautiful finished set of railings and handrails. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Gates Railings Direct to anyone out there! This is a first-class A+++ company that delivers stirling customer service. My huge thanks and appreciation Anthony to you and your wonderful team!!! Keep going! Tx

Ordered wrought iron railings from this…Great company would highly recommend
Ordered wrought iron railings from this company which are galvanised and powder coated. Excellent service, really good communication and a very smooth and on-time delivery as promised. A very high quality product which was at least £1000 cheaper than the nearest quote that I was getting, so this company work on smaller profit margins and higher turnover I would think which gives you the customer absolutely fantastic value that you can’t find anywhere else. Would highly recommend gates railings direct, a very good family run company that gave excellent customer service.

You are right in your assessment regarding our profit margins. We did a lot of market research and we wanted to provide high quality bespoke wrought iron products at sensible prices. We are able to keep our costs down by making all our products to order rather than keeping stock of ready made items. This is to our customers' advantage as you have also mentioned because each gets his or her own tailored product.
I will share your lovely comments with the rest of my team, they will be much lifted and appreciative, as am I.

Avoid - Don't repeat my mistake
Don't repeat my mistake, avoid at all costs!! Worst customer service and delivery experience you can imagine. Literally dumped the railings at the front of our property, obstructing our entrance and created a hazard for anyone passing by. Before offloading and delivery we requested they put deliver onto the driveway, but the very aggressive delivery driver simply said "Not my problem mate, this is the address so it's going here". Spoke to the director who was frankly useless and took no action deferring the problem to customer service. Customer services then defended the driver who blatantly lied saying there was no access to the property despite this all being on CCTV, and their service saying in the T&C's it says curb-side delivery. Also noticed the railings are chipped. Not the promised finish we purchased.
The response below is factually inaccurate and supports the complete denial of service failure. Go to their facebook review to see hard facts of photo's and videos contradicting this response.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our customer service, delivery and the condition of your railings on receipt. I would have preferred to deal with your complaint directly, but as you favoured taking the review route, I will address all three points here instead.
I am somewhat surprised that you have judged our customer service as being the worst you can imagine. This is an aspect of our business that we receive consistently high praise for, from trade and domestic customers alike. Being a small family business means we can provide a personalised customer experience and we go out of our way to uphold this. We have no place here for complacency and we work hard to make our customers feel they are not just another order number. We treat each customer with the same courtesy regardless of the value of their order. By the same token, our team have a reasonable expectation that that courtesy will be reciprocal.
It is clear that the delivery element of our service did not meet your expectations either. I am told that our driver had to park some 40 metres away from your house due to the number of parked cars in the street when he arrived. As it is a narrow street it was not possible to double park directly outside to unload. He unloaded your railings, which were very heavy, and carried them by hand down to your front garden with his colleague, where they were carefully placed within your boundary. This is additional to standard third party courier deliveries, which for goods of this type, are normally kerb side drops. Unfortunately, our driver was unable to meet your request to load the railings back onto the vehicle and take them to the back of your house via a side street because he had other deliveries to make within the London area before he could return to our factory in the Midlands.
I am also disappointed to learn via your review that you are unhappy that the finish on your railings is chipped. I would have preferred that you contact our office to notify us of this, as is the instruction in your Order Summary and our Terms and Conditions, both of which you accepted. This would have given us the opportunity to offer a solution that I am sure you would have been happy with.
We rarely receive complaints but when we do, they are taken very seriously and dealt with swiftly. On this occasion we have not been afforded the chance to do that, which is unfortunate, but nevertheless we wish you well.
