John Ryan by Design Ltd Avis

Review: We purchased an Artisan Luxury bed, following on a staff recommendation based on our body weights. It is branded the company's softest mattress, and unfortunately is unfit and likely harmful on the long term for people below 75kg. Worth noting to get the bed, we had to get a sprung base (warranty is not valid with a slate base).

We kept the mattress for nearly two months, and both of us would wake up regularly at night with shoulder and hip pressure pain due to how stiff the mattress was.

We reached out to John Ryan to try to make it work, or ask whether maybe they made a mistake in fabrication process. We were given no option, not even a recommendation to purchase and try one of their toppers.

Given it had been one of the worst two-month of sleep of my life, and that the company did not seem to care, we decided to send it back. This process was swift and efficient.

It is worth noting that the company does no allow returning the base. They had informed us, however in the context of them overtly recommending a product that is obviously not fit for our body weights, and them not providing any solutions to make it work it almost feel like we were set up to buy a base we do not like.

Here is what I think John Ryan should do instead:
- For people below 75kg: recommend not to purchase a mattress with them, or recommend to pair specific mattresses and toppers (btw Vispring use the same build process, and they manage to have decently soft mattresses with 30y warranty).
- For people purchasing a mattress and a base at the same time, include the base in the free return policy OR remove dependence of the warranty on a sprung base.

Some positive notes: staff was very nice (even if their advice was misleading), delivery was slow as expected but very well planned, return was swift and also very well planned.

This is our second Artisan Naturals mattress from John Ryan by Design, which probably says everything about how highly we rate their mattresses!
Our first Artisan Naturals served us extremely well for several years and was still in excellent condition so when it came to buying another mattress, we had no hesitation in returning to John Ryan.

This time we chose the medium tension following some weight loss. It has taken a little time to adjust and I would say the medium feels quite firm compared with some other manufacturers mattresses. However, comfort is very personalnand the quality, support and craftsmanship are excellent.
What particularly impresses us is the quality of the natural materials and the attention to detail. These are beautifully made mattresses that feel built to last.
We're very pleased with our purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend John Ryan by Design to anyone looking for a genuinely high-quality mattress.

My online mattress purchase experience was outstanding. I initially contacted John Ryan, about our body type and sleep preferences. Gary recommended the Artisan 1500 mattress. When I mentioned that our budget exceeded this option and asked if a higher-priced model would be better, we were reassured that the Artisan 1500 was the ideal choice for us. We placed the order, and managing and tracking the delivery was simple. The two-man home delivery team was proactive and treated our home with respect during the mattress switchover. Now, over a month into using the new mattress, I’m enjoying noticeably better sleep every night!

This company is simply fantastic. Having struggled with back issues for some time, I did a lot of research to find the right mattress for me. Nevertheless, they did not want me to go ahead with my order until I had spoken to one of their on house experts. This gave me the comfort that this was a company with integrity and pride in their products. I have to say it is by far the best mattresses I have ever slept on. If you're concerned that the quality doesn't match the price tag, I can assure you, it's worth every penny.

Excellent service, delivery and the mattress is amazing!

Very comfortable and well made mattress,and after ordering, I even received a phone call from the company to check if what I had ordered was going to be right for me, taking into account my weight, preferred sleeping position etc.
Was delivered on time and I haven't woken up in pain since.
Even received emails reminding me to turn the mattress.

I was kept informed of when they would arrive. Delivery was quick, efficient and the team were polite.

I slept really well at an Airbnb holiday home in January and the owner kindly gave me the details of the bed, bought from Joh Ryan. Customer service were extremely helpful in helping me place my order and get the most suitable bed for myself. I am now enjoying better sleep even throughout the heat waves. The bed more expensive than I had originally thought I would have to pay but hopefully I will never have to replace it and I certainly don't need to buy anything else to make it more comfortable.

We had no idea which mattress to buy having had two already from John lewis. First was uncomfortable, second an Emma mattress, after three years developed terrible sag. Got refunded but had to start all over again looking for a mattress In the bewildering world of beds! Stumbled across John Ryan, Julie spent a while advising. No pressure to buy but the website information and from Julie was so helpful and we decided on the origins pocket. Arrived two weeks ago and is so comfortable. My husband has had a back problem for 40 years, he sleeps badly usually, we now realise back pain has probably been waking him up. He is now sleeping right through the night and the sore back that I was getting on the Emma mattress has gone. Very happy customers. Thank you

I had to cancel my mattress order for a reason to do with the design of my home. John Ryan did this immediately with considerable courtesy when, as a small business, they could have been slow or shown irritation. An exceptional company that I have no hesitation in recommending.

I’ve had some bad experiences with bed companies in the past, but John Ryan by Design have set the gold standard for customer service.

I made a mistake, and they were well within their rights to deny my request, but their support team, specifically Gary Moss, went above and beyond to ensure I was accommodated, and I can’t thank them enough for that.

Very easy to communicate with for all pre-sales enquiries which they always fully resolve.

Easy to place the order and kept informed throughout the process. Bed was delivered ahead of schedule. Really efficient delivery when they set the entire bed up in situ, and love that they're able to take the old mattress for recycling.

To top it all off, a consistently good night's sleep. It's wonderful knowing that nothing you're resting on is plastic-based (Artisan Bespoke 004) - all natural materials and all hand-made.

This is a fantastic British company; great people enthusiastic about their product; top-class customer service and delivery; magnificent product which easily rivals the most expensive on the market for half the price because they reduce their overheads selling direct.

I love my new mattress. It took a week or so for me to get used to it . I used to wake up with hip pain but now I sleep right through the night !!! Love it !!!!

Lovely mattress only one problem ha ha… we are older and find it hard to turn over but after so many mattresses over the last 8 years we are sleeping better
