Mitchell Turf Avis 44

Delivery date was meant to be 1-5 working days. It took them 6 days to deliver but i had to phone them after day 3 for an update. I was told they didn't have enough turf so would be out tomorrow - nothing arrived day 4. I phoned day 5 and told it would be tomorrow again but a driver would call me when they are on their way. On day 6 my calls were not answered and is still hadn't received a call. 7pm the turf rolls arrived. As i started to wheelbarrow the turf rolls into my garden, i began to realise the poor quality of the product - big holes, split in the middle, bent edges.

We used Mitchells two years on the trot for a total of just under 500m2 of turf.
The 250m2 that we laid last October is now well-established and in superb shape. We just laid another 230m2 through the warm, dry spell and again the product quality is generally very good.
Throughout the staff have been very helpful, communicative and flexible - we opted to change our delivery schedule and even reduced the final order - we didn't ask for any reduction, but it was kindly offered and a refund made.
I've seen nothing but good from Mitchells and would certainly recommend them.

This company doesn't even deserve 1 star. No customer service at all and no respect for their customers.

Customer Service / Sales Staff - THE WORST.

I would give them zero stars if an option and that is 100% down to the Customer Service & Sales Staff. They do not respond to customers, they ignore messages on purchases, will not respond to emails, never deliver on-time no matter how far in advance you purchase the product. Not at all Helpful and clearly see Customers as nothing more than a burden.

Forget if the products are good or not, I suggest avoiding them, purely based on the Customer Service and Sales. Plenty of other businesses out there that appreciate their customers, unlike Mitchel Turf. If they just got rid of the entire Customer Service & Sales Team, I would have given them 4.5 to 5 stars. As I said the Drivers are Excellent and their ONLY saving grace.

Due to error 20mm slate delivered instead of 40mm. As much my fault for not checking first bag and delivery note which clearly stated 20mm. Wrong size immediately uplifted and replaced by 40mm. No quibble from customer service (Claudia /Mandy) or transport manager. Would not hesitate to recommend this company for its first class service. Driver could not have been nicer and more helpful. Thank you.

I bought a giant bag of compost from Mitchell Turf. The product is hardly compost. It consists mostly of undecomposed and partially decomposed woody material. It is much closer to mulch and does not release nutrients adequately to be used like compost as a soil amendment. In fact, micro-organisms temporarily borrow nutrients (ex nitrogen) from the soil to decompose carbon-high material such as wood, so adding this material to the soil may do temporarily more harm than good. In any case, it is of extremely poor quality if sold as 'compost'.

This company are an absolute joke! Communication is non existent and even once escalated and delivery date confirmed it doesn't arrive!
Avoid at all costs!!!

And communication is shocking. Product ordered was fine when it eventually arrived. Best thing about them was the delivery driver. Do yourself a favour and avoid you will regret otherwise.

Not overly impressed with this company. Ordered top soil and 15 rolls of turf (minimum order). After the transaction went through I received the confirmation email which stated they cannot give a delivery date and I would be contacted on the day of delivery! That is not acceptable for people taking time off work to receive the delivery. No further communication until lunchtime of the day it was finally delivered 5 days later. I received an email which I happened to notice which stated, the status of your order has changed, Nothing else. I ended up having to phone the company to clarify and was told it would be delivered in a couple of hours. Communication is really poor. On delivery, the driver was excellent and tried his best to get the soil and turf as near to where it was needed as possible. The soil was good quality, the turf however was hit and miss, some of the rolls were fine, others were very bare, had tears, holes and pieces missing. A couple had large weeds!! I would suggest if you are using this company, allow extra rolls as the quality is not consistent. Overall, not sure I would use again.

Twice the delivery was cancelled. I took two days off work to wait for a delivery that never came. Really bad service. I have now cancelled the order lets hope I get my money back.

Ordered last night at 19:30 and we had the order a little after midday today even though we were informed it would be 1-5 days. While we understand that it could have taken that long we are very happy at the quick turnaround and will use them again in the future.

Great next day service and top quality top soil.I wouldn’t hesitate to use this Company again.

I ordered 800L bag of topsoil and received what can only be described as landfill soil. It contained plastics, cable ties, glass, large stones, whole bricks, metal and carrier bags. I had to use half the bag immediately as a base for a sedum roof I had delivered the same day (from a reputable company) to prevent the sedum from dieing. Now my expensive sedum roof is covered in weeds from the land fill soil underneath it. Contacted Mitchell turf and was told I was delivered the wrong soil and that this soil was contaminated. Offered me £30 refund (original cost £90) and exchange the soil with a new bag. Only for them to go back on this offer when they realise the soil was not in the exact place delivered (kerb side). I had to move the soil of the road, down 2 flights of steps to the front of my house. This i did with multiple bucket runs and refuse to do the same back breaking job for them to collect. I'm now left with half a bag of landfill soil next to my front door, an expensive (£500+) weed filled sedum roof and a further £90 out of pocket. AVOID THIS COMPANY! They are cowboys selling waste soil as quality topsoil and will bend over backwards to not give refunds when due.

Order 2 x 800L bags of top soil. Cut open bag, started spreading and what I am spreading is not top grade top soil, but garbage soil. I find bits of pottery, pieces of glass, bits of ceramic.

Call them, am told it is contaminated. The remaining bag replaced with 2 bags. Again open one bag, start to spread it out, only again to find the same thing, plus bits of wire, piece of plastic with dishwasher safe written on it.

Contact them again, again it must be contaminated. This time I tell them to collect the remaining bag to which I got refunded the next day, but it took the 2 weeks to collect the remain bag, and it took chasing them to get this done.

On collection I come to find out from the driver that what I had actually been delivered was base soil. I was surprised as there was allot organic material (compost) in the mix, but he assured me it was base soil.

I again contacted Mitchell about being sent the wrong soil and they assured me I was definitely sent top soil.

Well either way, no soil whether base or top should ever contain the junk I found in their soil.

Good thing I was not filling a potential vegetable garden.

I would stay clear of this company. What I got was rubbish.

Amazing experience, the delivery driver was so kind and brought the sharp sand up to our end terrace house (which isn’t the easiest to navigate). His excellent service has ensured we buy from Mitchell Turf again, even if another supplier is cheaper, it’s not worth it as we’ve never had such an easy delivery. Thank you so much!

After calling the company on several occasions my order finally arrived a day late and quite late in the day. That said the quality of the turf was really good and I managed to get it laid before it got dark. I would like to commend the delivery driver Biggles who was vey cheery and most helpful he helped me to get the turf into the garden area. It would be useful if the minimum order was reduced to 10 rolls as 15 Is a bit to much for the smaller gardens.

Originally purchased a 800L bag gravel was a wee bit short so ordered 5 small bags to finish my project they sent a completely different colour of stone even though the invoice stated it was same emails were ignored so i would avoid at all costsand buy elsewhere.

Delivery driver was the only good thing about it, hence the star! I ordered 2 bags of pea gravel 10mm online and they sent the wrong thing I got large stones, queried with them and at first they were very apologetic and then they ignored my emails! Would never use again!!

Quality of turf was appalling, full of bold patches, missing corners, jagged edges and even big circles literally missing in the middle of roles.
Given 3 different delivery dates which they kept changing. So simply save yourself the time and money n go else where.
