I've had success in getting my US taxes filed from overseas by using MyExpatTaxes.

LOVE my expat taxes! Such a convenient way to do US taxes!

I was left stranded by my accountant of 10 years going AOL and not letting any of his customers know before he became uncontactable. My previous tax return was 160 pages long and I had no idea of what all it was about. I did have to get my head around what was actually being recorded since I trusted my preivous accountant to do the right thing. I did have a little learning curve using My Expat Taxes online but highly once I got my head around the software was extremely happy. I love the whole concept and the learning videos were a big help for me.

I came across MyExpatTaxes at a point of extreme frustration. I’d spent weeks using a very old, very well known alternative only to hit a block that could only be solved by paying them thousands of dollars. I searched Reddit forums and many expats recommended MyExpatTaxes. I took the plunge and was immediately blown away. I finished my taxes with them in a week, it was reviewed in a few days and I sent it off to the IRS. Exceptional service - my questions were answered instantly or within a matter of hours at most. Obviously I don’t know that my taxes have been accepted yet but based on the process alone, 10/10 recommend!

Filing process- Prompts and setup works well for the most part, but the generated PDF at the very end being out of sync with the web summary caused much angst at the very very end when I needed to actually do final corrections and do the filing JUST before IRS deadline. Explanation from support seemed to imply that if my payment was deferred, PDF can remain in-sync longer so I know what exactly I am e-filing.

Support- Full marks for Samantha and Joey who promptly and professionally answered my questions and concerns, during business hours pre-filing, and post-filing when I was concerned and confused as to what I actually e-filed.

The actual e-file- I expected my submission before IRS deadline to result in an on-time e-file, but it seems the e-file only happened a few days later. Luckily I had a refund, but I shouldn't need to rely on luck. Would be great if this can be called out earlier to minimize customer surprises.

pretty good to follow instructions. A bit expensive compared to other companies. You should make it easier to chat with someone or AI with questions.

It took long for my taxes to be completed. In fact they were finalized after the due date.

I got great help from my preparer.

Ease of use despite my lack of experience in doing taxes on my own!

When I am filling in my taxes I am able to ask questions of an AI chat and/or a real person. Even out of hours someone emails me back quickly.

App experience is flawless. So helpful to have the electronic filing integrations. Automatic extension is much appreciated.

I've been using the program for several years now. I like the ease of use and efficiency given the unpleasant purpose, and can knock out the filing in a few hours. It's a bit expensive but it sure works. However, if they continue on the track to aggressive upselling, I may change my mind in the future.

As a U.S. Citizen that never lived in the U.S. that used freefillableforms until it was gutted by Trump, I needed some tax software for a 1040 + some investmens. Unfortunately, most software was expensive and assumed either owning a U.S. phone number or address.

This was the first service I found that did not put up artificial roadblocks and was able to handle my complete situation with pretty intuitive forms. Doing multiple years in one go, it does not prompt you to fill out past year information so that caused me to mess up a few entries. Contacting customer service gave full, accurate answers (by an actual human) within 24 hours.

Their fee wasn't the cheapest, but it wasn't exorbitant either and the basic support is included in all tiers, which is plenty if you know what you want to do, just not necessarily how. In all, very happy with their software.

As always, MET is a great help in navigating this sometimes daunting experience of dealing with US taxes as a person living abroad. I highly recommend this site.
